If you don't own a house by the age of 22, does that make you a loser?

According to my ex-Gf not owning a house by the age of 22-23-24 means you are lazy and shit.

is she right?

dropped9 12-19-2004 11:56 PM

what about 25? im buying my first within 6 months...

detoxed 12-19-2004 11:57 PM

Depends on the home prices in your area and rental prices.

xclusive 12-19-2004 11:58 PM

I had my first house at 25 and lost it because of medical reasons and i will have a new better one in Febuary at age 28 it's been a rough few years...

Rob 12-19-2004 11:58 PM

I bought my first house when I was 26. I was in school until I was 25 though. Fucking High School!

Pornwolf 12-19-2004 11:59 PM

I see she sent in for her platinum level Goldiggers Club card when she was in high school.

Doctor Dre 12-20-2004 12:01 AM

I had my condo at 18 ... going to own a house in a month and half :P

Trixxxia 12-20-2004 12:01 AM

Good thing she's your ex. Talk about giving someone an inferiority complexe!

It does not make you a loser. Everyone has a different life - if you were studying to become a doctor, would you be able to purchase a home by 22? If the money comes from mommy & daddy, sure I see it as possible but not if you have to study and work part-time.

quiet 12-20-2004 12:03 AM

there's a hell of a lot more to life than owning property.

The Olsen twins had more money than I will ever make by the time they were 13

This year I made more money than 100 average Ethiopians will make in their lives, their child's lives, and their child's children's lives.

Be happy with what you have!

Owning a house at 22 is great if you have other money making buildings.

I'd rather pay rent and make money from my other investments, people thinking owning a house is most important are dumb and will get owned by society.

And i won't own a house for a while, i'll live in one of my investments which will pay for itself.

I hope she's enjoying living at the brink of bankrupcy like the good little consumer she's supposed to be.

Society is such that you're supposed to: "find a girlfriend, a steady job, then marry, then buy a house, then have kids"
I have a lot of friends falling into that pattern way too quickly, and the bastards act all jealous because I make money and they criticize my way of life (simple, no debts, investing, same girlfriend but our carreers are important).

Fools they are.

GTS Mark 12-20-2004 12:05 AM

Owning a house is a lot of responsibility. I think most 22 year olds should be out partying and going to college/university or just starting out a new job/self employment.

Everyone is different but if you're not ready for the level of committment house ownership comes with ,definetely don't feel pushed into getting a house just because someone else says to do it.

Try buying a nice piece of property in New Jersey at age 22.

Minimum $500,000.00 for a four bedroom house with a little back yard in the ghetto.

hydro 12-20-2004 12:07 AM

I was thinking about buying a house but relized that its pointless to buy one if you don't need one. I don't plan to have kids or get married anytime soon so a house would just be a waste of money. If your gf thinks your a loser for not having a house at 22 i'd dump the gold digging bitch.

xNetworx 12-20-2004 12:07 AM

If you bought a piece of shit house for 50k (10% down) would that make you better than if you were renting a normal place?

So she owned her own house by then?
If not... what a cunt, and she should just suck the pole and shut the fuck up.:2 cents:

that being said, I've owned my own apartment since I was 20.
I don't want a house yet.

mal 12-20-2004 12:07 AM

I'm 23 and live in a nice apartment. I wouldnt even want a house until I was married and had kids and thats not going to happen anytime soon.

Dildozer 12-20-2004 12:08 AM

BTW Paraskass she sounds like the typical Quebecer who will appear rich yet be poor all her life.

Typical poor people thinking, i guess her new boyfriend got out of that Professional diploma to be a mechanic and got his first job, jumped on a nice fat low interest mortgage and voila, he'll look cool.

Jakke PNG 12-20-2004 12:10 AM

By owning a house = having a mortgage?

Doesn't the company who gave you the mortgage own the house until you've paid it off? I wouldn't know, never had a mortgage in my life (yet atleast).

burntout21 12-20-2004 12:11 AM

bullshit, most people are still in college at 22.

S P A N N O W 12-20-2004 12:11 AM

Whoever puts an age number to it and says you're loser if you don't measure up is an idiot! Let me qualify me statement by saying that I own my home and I am older than 25! However I know a lot of great people from 19 years old well into their 50's who don't own a home. Does that make them losers? Fuck no!! If it's something you want then you will eventually get it - not everyone has the means to achieve their dreams. That chicks sounds like a real bitch to me! :feels-hot

yep they own it, miss a payment and they'll take your house and break one of your legs

Odin88 12-20-2004 12:15 AM

Most people don't OWN a house until they are 40 or so. Getting a 400,000$ loan doesn't make you successful.

Sosa 12-20-2004 12:17 AM

I'm 22 and been looking at buying a place. Prolly won't for a while though since there isn't that many decent nice sized ones in this town.. Might wait a few years until my gf is done with college and move up to the Black Hills and buy a place up there.

Owning property AND having other investments (did I mention MTSX, GG and CRM yet?) is a smart combination.

No, I can think of several reasons why someone wouldn't own a house by the age of 22, yet still be considered extremely successful by like 99% of the average persons standards.

Darkland 12-20-2004 12:24 AM

No, it definitely does not make you a loser. She is just being a bitch. IMHO the ages she quotes is kinda young. I am now 33 and just bought a home, gotta wait for it to finishing getting built though, and it's my first. I wanted to make sure I was ready before I took on the responsibility.

Now on the other hand, if your 22 and still living with your parents, then THAT qualifies you as a loser.

Just tell her to go fuck herself. :2 cents:
