It is not hyperbole.

Embryonic Stem Cells will be able to repair spinal damage like Christopher Reeve suffered. Christopher Reeve might be alive and walking today if Bush had not limited research for the last 4 years. I wish the science behind this was getting more coverage...

Embryonic Stem Cells are 'pre-cells' that have not decided what they're going to become yet. They can grow into any human tissue, muscle, bone, or brain; including parts of your body like the spine that cannot heal by itself. Already we can grow new teeth. It's amazing.

This is the most important advancement since the invention of antibiotics.

Actually Christopher Reeve himself admitted in an interview awhile ago that embryonic stem cell research could NOT heal an injury such as his, however he did still support the research. Wrong again, dummy.

Is Christopher Reeves a scientist? NO, so how in the hell some stupid superman actor can make such a statement? Ever thought of that dummy :1orglaugh

Stem cells can cure lots of diseases and have a much bigger power than people think.

And my degrees are in pre-med and cellular biology so blow me, brainiac. And yes, I would expect that someone like Christopher Reeve would certainly be knowledgable about what stem cell research can and cannot do considering the position he was in and the amount of time he spent campaigning on the subject. Go buy a clue.

Informative, but incorrect nevertheless. Those who claim that Bush is blocking nice people like Superman from achieving magical cures, are preposterous, if you know the facts...

Bush administration has limited spending on this, not limited research. In fact, there are no limits on the research to this day, there ARE limits on how many they use up for research. Also, there has no been no proof, not even remotely, that would claim that stem cell technology could improve a chronic malfunction, like spinal cord injury of the late Christopher Reeve. In fact, he even stated that publicly, but he also wants spending to increase so more information can be gained on this issue as quickly as possible. The democrats will pick up any issue if they think it will help them win, and Senator Edwards claiming Bush is the reason Christopher Reeve couldn't walk, or didn't make it.....Well , if you have half a brain you will laugh that off, coming from a trial lawyer you should take everything he says with a grain of salt.

First of all Pre-Med is not a degree :1orglaugh

Second of all, even scientists do not know the capabilities of stem cells (which are by definition, undifferentiated cells), so how in the hell a superman actor, without having any knowledge about microbiology, molecular biology, developmental biology and so on would know about stem cells.

D00d don't worry about it, its just propaganda, its just another reason to try to get you to vote their way. Its no different than people in here stirring up unsubstantiated and baseless claims that the White House is going to magically shut us all down after November.... Man, I don't know what I was doing taking all those classes to fulfill the requirements of a PRE-MED concentration in order to then take the MCAT's to get into medical school. I must have been dreaming. Major: Cell Biology Concentration: Pre-med. Sorry they didn't offer that where you went to school.

Anyhow, if you don't think Christopher Reeve knew what could and couldn't be done for his condition (the dude campaigned tirelessly for his cause, had multiple doctors, and 10 people a day to make his arms and legs move), you are the biggest moron around. Yes, stem cells can help acute injuries, no they can't cure chronic injuries such as his as of yet. Now can you enlighten me with anything else they taught you when you got your prestigious master's? I've always wondered which came first...the chicken or the egg?

Stem Cell Transplants Help Repair Spinal Cord Injuries in Rats

Cool, got ya googling. Oh wait a minute, that's all you ever do.:1orglaugh Anyhow, take a look at this one:
http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansas...9894262.htm?1c
"But scientists are still a long way from practical therapies. Kessler estimates it may take a decade before laboratory research with stem cells will be ready for experimental treatments in paralyzed patients."
Reeve would have died regardless of what Bush did or did not do. As I said in my earlier post, these things can't cure injuries like Reeve's right now. He knew, they know it, apparently you don't.

Btw, you're preaching to the choir for a change on this one. I support Kerry's position on stem cell research. However, to say if Kerry is elected all paralyzed people will walk again is pure propaganda as is blaming the lack of a cure today on Bush.

Thank you for not living in a fairytale world and thinking clearly for yourself, unfortunately people like CamChicks choose to ignore the facts and only post snidbits that support their opinion...and when they get proven wrong, they say something like Bush is evil....

There is hope for GFY'ers yet

Pre-Med is NOT a degree dumbass, it is just a set of classes you have to take (Organic Chem, Inorganic Chem, Physics, Bio courses ect..), which are required for admission to U.S. medical schools. I was also Pre-Med and got into a medical school but decided not to go. Cell Biology, which you claim you studied, is a Degree.

Back to our topic, as CamChicks has posed, they are numerous of studies where stem cell transplants help to repair spinal cord injuries in rats and mice, so this is a FACT. Maybe the time has not yet come to apply this to humans, because of our dumb headed Bush, which he calls himself the president, but in near time future, if this research gains momentum, the cure will be possible. So instead of saying "stem cells can not cure my injury", Reeves should have said, Bush's stupid policies, which hold back the cure.

If you are a Cell Bio major, you should know of the major journals and websites, go to New England Journal of Medicine, Medline ect.. you will find enormous info on stems cells and how they do miracles in animals.
