One of my alleged "friends" punched my girl in the stomach tonight over a piece of fucking sheet music that she had forgotten to bring him. Out of NOWHERE!

fucking shitstain, he'd swear he never ever touched her.

what can I do? Can I call the police over this? report it as assault? what offense would this be in this matter?

Most states in U.S.A. have laws on books for "battery." The least she can do is make a "battrery" report and let it go to the City Attorney's office for complaint.

apparently your 'friend' would. If she isn't with you, its really her call on what to do. Have her call 911, or the nearest equiv. given where she is, have the medics come and check her out. At least then there will be a report of said 'issue'. Then take it from there.

Definitely a good idea to call the cops so a police report can be filed, and make sure to get lots of pictures as well in case you plan on pressing charges in the future.

By the way...are you positive that this was all over the sheet music? Seems to me like there could be something else that she's not telling you. Have you heard his side of the story yet? (not that there's ANY excuse for him doing this, whatever she did...but still, the whole thing sounds rather odd)

There is nothing else going on but the fucking sheet music. He's played some sort of instrument and my girl borrowed sheet music from him to practice on the piano, and hasn't returned it to him yet. That was his excuse.

I realize that I probably don't have much say in this, I will urge my girl to press charges against him.

That is an assault and there is no excuse for that - don't matter a lot what his story is.

"Capture" any evidence now... by either reporting to the police or by going to a hospital. (May be you have time to consider things by using the hospital route - but don't know what this means re the law).

I know how you feel. My cousin was beaten up on Friday by her smackhead ex-husband in front of her two small kids. The way me and her dad dealt with it was 1) get him arrested 2) Got her a lawyer, a friend of mine, to get her a court order keeping him away in future. 3) through other friends, a lesson in manners at an unspecified future time when the fuss has died down.
