Having only 2 possible parties to vote for is one step away from 1-party system. That my comrads is not too far from dictatorship. I never understood why you only had the option for 2 different parties.
*shrug* |

One of the major issues is that candidates can advertise on TV and such...the two parties with the most money take the market, like windows and linux... |
It isn't a democracy today, and it will never be. Hopefully sane people will evetually replace the greedy criminals who have seized the levers of power.

While you have a system so reliant on the amount of money spent and the big businesses who contribute the money, true Democracy is rare. What ever country it is, businesses do not waste money on something that does not provide a result.
What surprised me was the amount of information the voter gets in the US. While I was there recently I watched the news channels and was surprised at the lack of real coverage the election gets. There was lots of coverage on the slander and lies being put out by both sides supporters in the form of ads. Most of the ads I saw were negative and more aimed at don't vote for him, assuming then the voter would have to vote for the other guy. Which shows you the true number of participants. What I never heard was what Kerry or Bush will do to run the US better than the shambles it's in now. This at a time when the US has lost 1,200,000 jobs, unemployment is growing the gap between the poor and rich is growing and the dollar is still in the toilet. No one came up with any solutions or even appeared to have a clue how to fix it. |

And with everyone saying "Don't vote for Nader or any other party candidate because it is only a vote for Bush" don't realize the amount of people just like me that are looking for that third candidate and how probable it would be that that candidate on the grassy knoll would have half a chance. I'm particular on Libertarian myself. But then throw in the fucking electoral bullshit and their point becomes valid. We can all vote, but it doesn't matter anymore. One man one vote isn't the reality. In essence, damned if we do and damned if we don't. |
Since when has the US been a democracy? :helpme

The federal government was formed so we could unite against outsiders with a common army, money standard etc...now look what has happened. Blacks won the freedom to be forced into "ghettos" and poverty, and we all lost most of our rights to a select few who hold power. |
this thread is stupid. period.
|
In response to the thread title...the US has never been a Democracy...it is...from the beginning a Republic...as some others in this thread have pointed out.

300,000,000 people in your country and only 2 candidates that actually have a chance at winning a presidential election. One could be considered a hero but the other should defenitely be considered a Zero. I guess its just the herding in process and people think they actually have a choice. Not to mention that a retarded monkey with and a half broken crayon could do as much if not more thant the current dimwit in office today. What kind of democracy is this? A democracy were the $ is mightier than any vote (or 500,000) or ballots casted :2 cents: |

Sorry to have to go further back in my own countires history, but thing were messed up before Lincoln was " voted " in. Do a little research about his being voted into office. There was not a single vote from any southern state for him. And his election was prior to the succession of the majority of the states. |
Hate to break it to you but the US has never been a complete democracy...
Its a republic. |
We will be more than fine we will have to slip a lot more than we have in the last 4 years for us to really go down...

leaders are elected in a democratic process and the government is structured similar to a republic since a one-man, one-vote government could not operate on this scale. I guess you could call it a democratic-republic but it was/is the intention of the founders to be more of a democracy than anything. The former USSR was a republic. It's that democratic process that is in danger. Not that it has existed as more than an illusion for a long time anyway. |
USA is only one Israel's colony
