It definitely is disapointing for the athletes and everyone in general. I remember when we had the olympics in 2000 even the minnow soccer games filled 40,000 stadiums.
|
hahah great and funny pic.

People don't respect culture and history

lol... Nah they have more support and pride. :) |
Were they not giving out free tickets to help fill the stands?
|
The Greeks are just disappointed the athletes aren't competing in the nude like they used to... :1orglaugh

Why do you think it's a poor turn out? Because Greece isn't a nice destination? It has more to do with Bush and Co. and their terror alert propaganda bullshit that has the world paranoid. Nice going W.

More tickets have been sold than in Barcelona and Seoul (close to 3mil). This pic is not taken during the olympics and yes there are still many empty spaces. Certain sports don't get the attention of people. Tickets are not overpriced. At least for me they look very cheap. Gymnastics is the only exception of expensive tickets and some of the finals.
On Saturday I went to watch australia vs p.rico at 9 in the morning and then serbia vs spain. All tickets were sold and costed 15euro for both games (so that's about 8euro/game). I didn't manage to find a ticket for beach volley, the rest basketball games of greece and weightlifting. I know I can find tickets for badminton, baseball, softball, shooting and archery but i don't like them and this seems to apply for the rest. Overall I would say more tickets were sold than expected after the bs media propaganda for over a year that possible Al Queda will hit Athens, security is not good and avenues won't be ready. |

the # of tickets sold are displayed with a day delay
for the 21st http://www.athens2004.com/en/LatestN...2b130c0a ____ 78% of the overall tickets were sold on saturday which is a working day for shops and many corps. |
wow it's a full house at the olympics...
|
If you've ever been in Athens in August, you'd know why there are so many empty seats LOL

do you guys think it has something to do with all the terrorist shit thats been going on... or nobody gives a fuck about the olympics
|
The truth is that you usually see the action much better on TV. You lose the grandeur of the event, but you make it up by being comfortable and not spending $400 to watch 4 hours of mostly crappy prelims followed by one exciting final.
|
For the past 2 years, the medias have been talking about the security measures and how the terrorist would srike the olympic games.. That didn't help... :1orglaugh
|
I am sure the climate, terrorist fears, and some sports not being as popular have caused less than full attendances at some events! :2 cents:
