Some time ago it came up in dicussion when the White House drew up plans to invade Iraq. On the news - I think it was CNN - it was said that these plans were drawn up shortly after Bush got into office. In the same news article it mentioned that the US also drew up new plans for invading dozens of other countries, including Mexico and Canada. I found that to be rather funny.

Canada has 20% of the world's fresh water, and the US has a great need for additional fresh water supplies. The USA is not only thursty for oil, but is increasingly growing very thursty for water as well. Around the world there is an increasing number of wars and civil disputes that are occurring over water rights. Wars of the future may be fought over water, not unlike they fought over oil now.
