It's Official, My ISP Is Blocking Nat Net

The past couple of days I have had issues with some sites...

I have been having email issues the past couple of days too, so my girl got on the phone. (i am not able to connect to my mail server right now)

while my mail issue was not fixed, they relayed some info to me.

National-Net, is officially being blocked from Adelphia now.

roh roh.

this explains surfing isues, but I sense a world of hurt coming for Nat net folks.

reasoning? he said it has gotten so bad with toolbars and spyware that it is affecting their customers so bad they are doing major changes.

He said whatever reasons is Nat net is not complying.

woah...

anyone have info on this shit? this is straight from my ISP, and its going down as we speak.

i will not be able to get mail from nat net severs etc... major shit going down

brand0n 07-21-2004 05:59 PM

ADELPHIA IS BLOCKING NAT NET

cherrylula 07-21-2004 06:00 PM

Yeah this guy on the phone just told me all transmissions between adelphia and national net hosting will be blocked.

err edit: they ARE being blocked... he also said he wish he knew why, not that he would disclose it to me but he was very curious himself.

I'll check out the equipment that we manage for Adelphia tomorro when I'm in the office and see if I can see any traces of it. :2 cents:

cherrylula 07-21-2004 06:06 PM

Yeah this guy basically said that 3/4 of all customer service calls they get now are people with spyware trying to blame Adelphia. So basically they have had so many people cancel they are having to make huge changes.

He also said blocking nat net might not be permanent, if they comply with whatever the issue is? No clue.

He said its affected their customers that much, so now all they can do is block them.

Also that because of spammers spoofing adelphia emails AOL now blocks them all which sucks for their consumers.

JSA Matt 07-21-2004 06:07 PM

They are doing the same thing down here... I saw a list of about 50 some hosts they completely blocked from their routers.

do you know how HUGE Adelphia is?

they are not restricting users, they are protecting users.

they said Nat net hosts spammers and spyware.

the guy said to protect our clients we are killing companies who do not comply.

i know how big they are
i also know that when users cant access websites because their isp is "protecting" them, they move on to something else. maybe instead of "protecting" them by blanket blocking, they should make tools to patch their users systems. or maybe make a info site that teachs their bonehead users how to block toolbars and spyware.

Fletch XXX 07-21-2004 06:09 PM

As for my email issues, its being fixed.

I wish you Nat Net guys luck, this one may sting.

Adelphia is a very large provider this way... I know if its affecting me, it will definitely be afffecting your surfers.

good luck.

Sosa 07-21-2004 06:11 PM

damn that really sucks. But spyware and all that shit is out of control for sure. We see a ton of it at the computer store, 80% of our fixes/repairs are from spyware/viruses

dude we are talking about average surfers.

you should know your target audience more.

these people have nmo clue about spywae and shit.

the reason they said its being banned is because they are losing customers who claim they are being infected by Adelphia.

i agree fuck them for doing it, but they also said AOL has Adelphia emails blocked so things are very bad.

Fletch XXX 07-21-2004 06:12 PM

THIS IS IN NO WAY A BASH ON NAT NET.

I AM LOOKING OUT FOR SOME OF YOU.

i do business with tons of Nat Net users, I cant get your EMAIL TUILL THIS IS FIXED!!!

yeah, i know average surfers. maybe if they sent out a email with some sort of toolbar themselves, like googles, which blocked spyware and patched systems to protect from toolbars. isps shouldnt bully companys and tell them who they can host and what content can be hosted on their system. if they email their users and say "YOU MUST INSTALL THIS" then the idiots who cant protect themselve will be protected.

nat net needs to clean up there act.

Bet you will see more big guys doing stuff like this.

Seriously this shit is crazy. This customer service guy just talked my ear off I swear. He said most of their calls are people with spyware, and even brand new customers are cancelling immediately because they think its Adelphia fucking up their computers.

Then he went on to tell me about some search engine company that tried to hire him to program a spyware toolbar (sound familiar) and he told them to fuck off because that shit is polluting the internet.

I wish these people spreading spyware would fucking realize if a consumer cannot even fucking surf the internet without fucking tech issues they sure as hell are not going to buy anything!!

I see the same crap, I do service calls sometimes for a few major ISP's and the majority of these calls are resualt of spyware and virus. People need to learn not to shit where you eat, you maybe making a bank installing toolbars but what happens when an ISP's start blocking all the major adult hosts.

iwantchixx 07-21-2004 06:21 PM

it's about fucking time that an ISP took these issues seriously.

J B 07-21-2004 06:24 PM

NatNet took care of this yesterday. A few of our users couldn't use StatsRemote because of the block. We contacted NatNet and they were already aware of it. About two hours later Adelphia removed the block. I doubt they will block them again just one day later.

hey sorry but right now I am thinking I am glad I don't host with Nat Net, because I would be COMPLETELY shut off from all of my sites. That would NOT be good!

This is not just consumers affected. We have been unable to receive business emails as well.

We will probably be switching isps eventually anyhow, but we have several computers and its going to be a pain in the ass.

However, if I had to hurry up and switch my ISP for some reason cause they were blocking the company I host with, it would fucking suck and probably cost valuable time and money.

Well, a few people contacted us yesterday because it didn't work for them. They all confirmed that it's working for them again. Maybe the tech guy you spoke with wasn't up-to-date.

So NatNet is a spammer and scammer haven? Interesting to know. Wasn't it once cho-opa? Or Candid by that matter?

Hopefully, and I will acknowledge I have had issues with some Nat Net sites, mainly isnt Lightspeed Nat Net?

their stats were unavailable for me for a bit.

good luck.

This adelphia guy on the phone said he really had no idea why they were blocking them. Also that it could be temporary if they fix whatever went wrong. It could be all sorts of things he said.

If they were I don't think Adelphia would have removed the block so quickly. BTW here's Tony's reply from another board:

---
...my name is Tony Morgan and I am with NationalNet, Inc.

Let me see if I can clear this up for you....yes, Adelphia started blocking NationalNet a while ago. Because Adelphia is such a small ISP we did not even notice it in our graphs. Research indicates that they are responsible for less than 1% of the users in the US and 0% of the users outside the US. One of our clients called in this morning and let us know what was going on, so we called Adelphia and spoke to them. We researched their issues and found it to be a Reseller for one of the largest sites on the internet that we happen to host. We agreed to speak with our client and they agreed to turn us back on. They said that it will be back on today or tonight. Like I said, it is so small noone will even notice it going or coming.

As for our Policy on spam...ask around and anyone will tell you that NationalNet is absolutely "NOT" notorious for hosting spammers. That is a crock and everyone knows it. Yes, we have had to terminate some accounts for spam, but we are not a haven at all and the spammers know it.

I do apologize to you for the inconvenience that you are experiencing because we do host some very large clients that I am sure you do business with but rest assured that we take things like this very seriously...this is why we host all of these people. If you feel like you need to ask questions or know anything about what is going on you can feel free to call us anytime, any day toll-free at 1.877.471.9075 and choose Option 1 for Tech Support. Our Support people are here 24x7x365 to answer your questions.

I must add that it is kind of ironic that Adelphia (the bankrupt ISP that's Owner is up on Fraud Charges) decides that it should eliminate spammers by blocking AOL, BellSouth, and NationalNet. I actually take it as a compliment to be mentioned in the same circles.

Again, sorry for the inconvenience.

Tony Morgan
NationalNet, Inc.
