Do you remember.... BOTTLED WATER?
I (barely) remember in the 80's when people started getting on the bottled-water-bandwagon.
I wonder what brought that on. Anyone know? |
I don't know but if I had to take a guess it probably had something to do with the fitness revolution
|
George Carlin has a funny line about Evian= Naive spelled backwards.
|
i drink bottled water, sometimes
|
a lot of it had to due with the new environmental awareness and all of the water pollution
|
I drink bottled water once in a while
|
it beats carrying the water in my pocket
|
Yeah, i know of the bottle water called Dansai, (not sure if i spelled it correctly) but it was booted out of England, for being false... they were saying it comes from moutains blah blah blah, i believe pepsi is the owner of it... and they found out it was false because it was only tap water.
So they pulled alot of the water off the shelves Stasia Styles |
Yeah, I think it came about when they started scaring people with what is in our tap water. But what they fail to tell you also is that some of that stuff is actually good for you, not all of it mind you, but they sure made it sound worse than it was. And so we welcomed $2 for water in a bottle.

bottled water is very handy on the road
|
people will buy bottled air if you market it right. consumers = sheep

I'd rather drink tap water than Dansai or Aquafina. |

But the real question is... when bottled water took off, did public / tapwater get worse? Bottled water = more money, more jobs. Dirtier tap water = more sick people, more money, more (healthcare) jobs. The economy can only gain from the above scenario. That's my opinionated spin on it anyway. |

Someone somewhere figured out that he/she could sell it. |
botteled water tastes better than tap water :2 cents:

PVC plastics became popular.
Then out of the blue people changed the word thirsty to hydrated. Soon you were told that you must drink like 64 onces of water a day or some bullshit. Then the nightly scary movie, err I mean news started in about the condition of your tap water. Chlorine, floride, trace elements, mermaids, fecal matter, Andy Rooneys sperm. Soon cities were having their water conditions published with a best and worst list. Most often large populated cities where trends take start rated the worst. Then people began buying bottled water in droves. The more natural sounding the label the better it sold. Now people everywhere are walking around with a plastic bottle of tap water that they paid over a buck for. When in fact the water in that bottle is ussually no cleaner or different than what you would get out of any faucet, hose, or water fountain. People are now ordering bottled water in resturants instead of drinking the free water they normally provide. I am awaiting the day to see the first .25 cent water fountain. |
I used to think only a moron would pay for water, but then I moved to Indianapolis and the water here tastes like chlorine and burns my throat. I like to drink water so I buy it bottled. If I move somewhere where the tap water tastes okay, I'll go back to that.

I had the worst tapwater in a restaurant the other day... that's what made me think about this.
I drink bottled water all the time, but I'll drink tap water in restaurants if it doesn't taste too bad. But this water tasted sooooo bad I suspected they do it intentionally to get people to buy a $2 high-fructose corn syrup drink. |

Hmm what do they make PVC/plastic out of? |
Long ago when I was a kid I did use bottled water machines. The ones where you would deposit a quarter and it would fill your milk jug.
When it was super hot out we would stop by them, drop a quarter in and put our heads under the spicket. |

I drink loads of bottled water, we have our own water supply here and it can taste pretty awful - tonight I did the weekend shop and bought 12x1.5 litre bottles of water for around $6 (I drink 4-6 litres a day right now).
|
We only drink distilled water, anything else tastes bad. And tap water is disgusting and sometimes even cloudy.
I don't even make my dog drink tap water all the time. |

I drink water from the tap, to me it is good, but most of the time I drink from my fridge, it has a filter, however how good of a filter it is, i am really not sure. But nothing beats a hot day with a glass of water n ice..errr maybe a beer :)
Stasia Styles Heck some days i might drink outta the toliet bowl LOL |
I seem to remember bottled water becoming big after all those people on the east coast died from waste water being released into a river upstream from the community inlet.
|
Bottled water sucks:glugglug
|
I hate to pay for bottled water.. but I do :-) :winkwink:
|
ive been drinking 4-6 24oz bottles of water a day for 2 weeks now. I havent had any soda since then, and I feel A LOT better than when i downed 3 dr peppers a day.
...so im still living in the bottled water revolution! |
Very simple answer to this. People are afraid of dying. When they see something that they think may prolong it, they jump all over it.
|
Got one of those 8 gallon jugs... Our tap water is just plain nasty.
|
i just got a new water dispenser today from sparklettes, its black and silver and looks nice :)
