Wtf? Nick Berg was an Al Qaeda operative?

Don't know how many of you saw the CBS Evening news tonite (and it might have been on abc & nbc as well), but CBS did some STRONG hinting that Nick Berg was MORE than just an "innocent civilian" in Iraq.

First they brought out information that somehow the dude they captured in Minnesota known as the "20th hijacker" had access to some files/sites on the internet because he had Nick Berg's password!

And..what do you think the FBI was questioning him about when he was in custody in Iraq? Yep..that very fact!! The FBI supposedly said they let him go because it was JUST a coincidence about the password.

They hold him for 4 days or whatever it was and say it was no big deal then?

And while they didn't say it..there was a strong (or I was reading a lot into it) suggestion by CBS that POSSIBLY Berg was an Al Qaeda operative. And hmm..if he was, and they grabbed him because they were afraid he may have spilled some beans to the FBI about Al Qaeda? So then you off him on video and use him to "get back" at the abuse by Americans of Iraqi prisoners.

Kill two birds with one blade..literally?

Anyone else find this even faintly possible/resonable?

Anna_O 05-13-2004 07:18 PM

How many conspiracy theories are there about that video?

This one sounds interesting though...

Fletch XXX 05-13-2004 07:19 PM

he let a terrorist use his computer, not a very smart move.

"When Nicholas Berg took an Oklahoma bus to a remote college campus a few years ago, the American recently beheaded by terrorists allowed a man with terrorist connections to use his laptop computer, according to his father."

Babel 05-13-2004 07:19 PM

not really, the guy was killed to deflect people form the torture scandal

KDizzla 05-13-2004 07:19 PM

I could see that.

bdld 05-13-2004 07:20 PM

this whole situation is WAY fishy

Yeah..that's basically what CBS said. But, that link had one additional piece of information that CBS didn't broadcast:

"FBI agents interviewed Berg a few years ago when they were investigating the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, sources said. He was interviewed because, unbeknownst to him, Moussaoui had used his e-mail account when he was in Oklahoma."

So if the FBI had ALREADY interviewed Berg years ago, why the fuck would they detain him AGAIN in Iraq to go over the same crap?

They were on the SAME bus together and he let him use his laptop?!?

Guess I had better read the link first! :)

Blinky 05-13-2004 07:23 PM

There are a dozen conspiracy theories already, and there'll be more. They can't all be true.

Unfortunately, it's been shown that the goverment / military certainly had reason to believe that his death would support their cause in a lot of ways. It's not that hard to believe that it's more than was first reported. :winkwink:

Heywood Jablome 05-13-2004 07:23 PM

Another twist?

Berg apparently had an Iraqi in-law in the Mosul area, according to emails to his family.

I was just going to post something about that.

How many times is the government LIE/twist the truth here about whether or not he was in U.S. custody?

First he was (according to sources in Iraq) backed up by his father.
Then the U.S. denied it..only the Iraqi police (like THEY would know what to do with him)

And now there's TACID admission that YES, the FBI did indeed have him incarcerated and questioned him.

Frigging MOFO liars!

Webasic 05-13-2004 07:36 PM

This is how they clean up....rumors start getting out that the FBI/CIA were involved in his killing, next thing rumors start coming out about him being involved in Al Qaeda.

Easier for people to let go of what happened to him and stop asking questions, if they think he's one of them.

Meanwhile, the family said Berg had been questioned by the FBI more than a year ago about a contact he had with a terrorism suspect in 1999, while he was a student at the University of Oklahoma in Norman.

Some reports have said the suspect may have been Sept. 11 suspect Zacarias Moussaoui, but David Berg said that is not true. Nicholas Berg only went to school there in 1999; Moussaoui enrolled in a flight school in Norman in February 2001.

crockett 05-13-2004 07:37 PM

I'm not being a conspiracy nut, but there is for sure much more than meets the eye with this. I mean first it's said he was in US custody then the US denies that. The family then comes up with proof and releases that today. Then add in the fact if he was in US custody why was he released and he didn't contact his family right away. I mean this guy had no contact with his family for a few weeks, and he didn't contact them when he was released? It's like he was captured by the guys that killed him as soon as he was released.

Now to top it off with this whole terrorist e-mail thing. I could blow off one or even two of these, but what are the odds that all this would happen to the same guy?

who knows what's going on? All I can tell you for sure is that nothing is what it seems in a warzone.
Nevertheless, an Al-Qaeda operative getting beheaded by his own? I find that rather unlikely and on top of that, the guy is Jewish. I mean come on, what are the odds he's an Al-Qaeda operative?

xenophobic 05-13-2004 07:44 PM

So far the list of players include Al-Qaeda, CIA, Mossad, F.B.I, Rumsfeld, etc. pick one - stick to it?

You know when terrorists kill someone, and people start blaming government agencies for his murder, instead of where it belongs - with the terrorists, you pretty much know they've won.

Al-Qaeda loves America really, let's welcome them with Teddybears and hugs.

That's what Nick Berg's father thought, too.

Just another "curve" here. His father had said that Berg wanted to go home, but got held by the military which his father was upset about as he would have been out of the country before he actually got captured.

Then TODAY, the FBI says they offered him a FREE ride out, and he turned it down!

He's broke, wants desperately to go home, and supposedly said he turned down the plane home because he thought the trip to the the airport was too dangerous. HUH?

They interviewd a friend of his in Bagdad, a journalist, that said that he was not offered a return ticket. That journalist said that he would of jumped on the offer....

To Xenophobic: Why is it that facts are slowingly trickling to the surface. Why hasn;t the administration came out with the full story in one shot???

Wtf was Nick Berg doing in iraq alone the press is trying to get
answers for.

Nick Berg's dad was on TV [today] speaking to the press for the
first time since the incident occurred. He says he blames Bush,
Rumsfeld, and al-quaeda. He went on about all his son was doing
was helping the iraqi people and that if the iraqis knew they killed
a friend and not an enemy they would be regretful.

How is an American going to be in iraq not part of the military and
not part of any company hired by iraq nor America to part of the
rebuild?

There is a big stinky fish somewhere in all of this.

Maybe he was just a J-freak trying to be all Jesus-buddy and
that's all there is to that. I's be interested to know if his
family is into some weird out-of-the-main-stream J-freak sect.

I saw somewhere his sister (deceased) was married to an Iraqi, and he had met him in Iraq.
