an update to my bird situation, for anyone that cares.

despite the shoddy nest this bird made, and all the abuse the weather dished out..... this poor fucking bird took one hell of a beating..... the eggs hatched last night. 2 of them. And they're doing just fine..... no feathers yet, and look pretty rough, but starting to peep for food, and there are 2 grown birds looking out for them.

They seem to be okay with me, because they leave the nest when I come out on the deck to check on 'em..... they've been watching me, and I think they know I'm not gonna mess with 'em.

So anyway..... so far so good.

not sure what kinda birds these are, but they're green and roughly about the size of the smallest cell phone. Maybe smaller. Roughly the size of a Hummingbird, but they're not Hummingbirds.

pretty small.

and there ya go.

Very humane of you, congrats on your new pets for life.

The National Audubon Society has a number of books on birds that might help to identify them.

Sharky 03-12-2004 07:34 PM

AMP, what's with the sig? You working for countrywide now?

thought about it, but I don't wanna get too close.... don't wanna piss off mama. There's a bunch of these little green birds living around here, mostly in my Hibiscus..... and this one nested right over my deck.... not sure if that was smart or dumb yet.... lol

but I don't wanna fuck with them while she's still defenseless.

AMP, What you can do to help the birds;

Go to your Laundy area of the house collect lint from the trays and Lay the lint outside in a dry area.

The bird will soon see this nest making material and rebuild the nest with it.

Don't worry about that human smell rumor. That was a myth.

Seriously! For example, Do you realize how many different types of swallows there are? It's mind boggling, I tell ya.

Spunky 03-12-2004 07:37 PM

The only green bird I can think it could be is maybe a love bird..not sure what breed lives in your area..do they look a bit like a little parrot?

my girlfriend works for Countrywide..... and it's no bullshit. Anyone that's done any home buying or even just looking, knows.... Countrywide is one of the best.

Just trying to give her a bump. She's still getting started over there. But she's got 17 years experience in mortgage, and now being on the Countrywide team..... there is a mortgage you can't go wrong with. :)

Just trying to help my girl out. That's all.

I cut open some old deck furniture cushions.... man! The birds LOVED that shit.... they were pulling the stuffing out of those for weeks!

for those that didn't know.... I buy bird seed in bulk, and anytime I go to the beach, I feed the birds till there's nothing left.

There's nothing wrong with channeling rage into your birdwatching. Seriously.

I have no rage..... and I'm not one of those bird freaks..... I don't spy on them with binos.... I just like birds. I like having them around, and making them as comfortable as I can. Food, water.... whatever I can do.

It's all good.

Damn, the mind works in mysterious ways. I just decided to throw "Hudson Hawk" in the DVD player. Weird.

from everything I've looked at, it looks like it's a Japanese White Eye.

Nice...that rocks :) I read in that article you posted that they're easily tamed. You might have yourself a bunch of new friends to keep you company all summer.

TweetyBird 03-12-2004 08:44 PM

Amputate Your Head 03-12-2004 08:50 PM

yes, I have... after a conversation I had with my exterminator a few months ago, apparently chickens eat centipedes....

and that's a good thing.

But I have no way to contain them.
