gornyhuy 02-20-2004 01:20 PM

Romeo & Juliet (the actual cuban ones) are far and away the best gars I've ever had. I had 2 boxes of them and got really spoiled and now I have some nice stuff but everything sucks compared to those R&Js....

MAN they were so good.
Specially with a glass of Oban single malt.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

tony286 02-20-2004 01:21 PM

i wouldn't mind a cigar right now

Dr. Wicks 02-20-2004 01:31 PM

MetaMan,

If you can trust a foreign company... you can order a box of Cubans... they will take the rigs off, put them in a generic box, and fed-ex then to you..... then send the rigs 2 days later..... the generic box states domenican... not illegal to bring into the US....

Having stated that, as long as you can trust them, you are ghetting great Cuban cigars..... here's one that I have used and trust...

I smoked my first cigar when I was 14 and have smoked ever since. I also collect cigar stuff like cutters, humidors, books, ashtrays. lighters and stuff like that.

My favourites are Romeo Y Julieta, Cohiba, Monte Cristo, Davidoff (Try the Limited Edition - it's very good!), Zino, Joya de Nicaragua, Avo, Hoyo de Montmerry and Bolivar are some of my favourites.

gornyhuy 02-20-2004 01:33 PM

I got the R&Js from a friend who was traveling in Turkey and just brought them back in his bags undeclared. Guess he got lucky...

I've heard about those cuban smuggler mail order deals but was always skeptical...

taking a look though...:glugglug

Just got a box of Hoyos... good smoke but leaves you with nasty breath for about 48 hours. Whats up with that?

okie nice thx. i may have to try them out.

my buddy lives in poland i wonder if the cigars there are "real" R&J or if they even have them there.

Dr. Wicks 02-20-2004 01:41 PM

Kris with Sunny Dollars used to live in Poland.... yes, you can get the real deal there.... have him send some from there !!

Cuban cigars are overated... people just want them becasue they cant have them. IMO most cuban cigars are too heavy/dark I'd take an H. Upmann robusto 100 over ANY cuban cigar.

Its not like as soon as you light a cohiba you friggin' melt into your chair. I don't even like them. :2 cents:

I think it's rather mild and smooth cigar - the bad breath isn't that bad :)

Dr. Wicks 02-20-2004 01:47 PM

JC,

Correct.... just like wine... it is a matter of taste..... smoke the one you like the best...... not a Cuban because you think it is better.... Dominican and Honduran cigars are mostly Cuban seed to start with anyway.... stick to the ones you enjoy most.... and if you are lucky, they are some of the inexpensive ones :-)

Fabien 02-20-2004 01:50 PM

You guys smoke ?

When I light up a cuban R&J I DO melt into my chair... they were that good. I've had other cubans, and some of the best honduras and dominicans I could find and i eventually convinced myself that It was just hype and they hadn't been THAT good, but then I got another 4 of them from the same source and my God they were everything I remembered.

Furious_Male 02-20-2004 01:51 PM

I love a fine cigar and always have my humidor stocked with a decent selection.

Since mostly cigar smokers will check this thread maybe someone can give me some advise on why I can not keep my humidity above 60%. I got a new humidor for xmas. I let a damp sponge sit (on plastic of course as to not damage the wood) for a good 3 weeks as well as the puck but as soon as I pulled out the sponge it dropped to 58%.

The cigars still smoke well but I know 58% is not the ideal humidity.

Any input?

axelcat 02-20-2004 01:52 PM

cigars give me headaches

I agree - it's one of the best cigars, if not THE best. I still remember the first time I smoked my first R&J... Every time I'm unsure what cigar I should buy I buy R&J because I never ever get tired of that cigar.

I think ACID cigars are way overpriced... I bought a box of them and that essential oil flavr they have is just too much for me...

I also got a bunch of those cofee flavored mayorgas. They were ok. I'm not a huge fan of the drew estate stuff anymore. Although you can always find good deals on mayorgas.

Jay3 02-20-2004 01:59 PM

Hey Juicy you should check these out Juicy Lucy :thumbsup

Well, Is your humidor sealing OK?

word. But having said that, Miami has a small shop of ex-La Carona (in Cuba) employees that makes excellent hand rolled cigars. Fresh Stogies

Many of the expensive "cuban cigars" that you see on the net have flown all around the world to get to you and oftentimes re-labeled. Like someon said, trust is the key if you are gonna pay a lot for "cuban cigars" To me, freshness is key.

From personal experience sometimes it can take a while for a humidor to keep a good humidity.

You have probably checked your hydrometer but if you haven't you should just to be sure.

Seb From Holland 02-20-2004 02:38 PM

I'm actually smoking one right now. My brand is Davidoff, very delicate.

GiantGnome 02-20-2004 02:57 PM
