Quick 10 minute naps...

Sitting in front of the computer, ever get to the point where your eyes get so heavy that you couldn't keep them open if your life depended on it? So they finally fall, you enter a strange daze where you can still know and feel what's happening around you, yet you're still unable to open your eyes. After what feels like hours you awake from the daze feeling fully revived and ready to go again. You look up at the clock afraid you slept the morning away, yet only 10 minutes have passed.

Does this happen to anyone else very often? I just woke up from a daze. My dad is the same way, always needs a quick 10 minutes after working every day. Maybe it's hereditary?

Kimmykim 01-22-2004 11:34 AM

I can't nap, I'm grumpy as hell afterwards. I either sleep or don't.

wayward 01-22-2004 11:35 AM

its the "my eyes are burning from so much porn" nap...

stocktrader23 01-22-2004 11:35 AM

Yes and I wish I could do it whenever I wanted. Sleeping 10 minutes and feeling like you slept all night is great, especially when you hate sleep as much as me.

Scott McD 01-22-2004 11:36 AM

When i decide to take a nap i end up getting that sleep paralysis shit.

Not good...

Same here... I couldn't take a nap if my life depended on it regardless of how tired I am.

tbabe 01-22-2004 11:40 AM

happens to me usually around 4 in the morning

C_U_Next_Tuesday 01-22-2004 11:43 AM

supposed they say a quick 10 to 20 minute nap is better for the body than a 2 hour nap.

I think I have driven long distances like that. See a sign that says "next exit 30 miles" and I am there a few minutes later..hmmmmmm.

webair 01-22-2004 11:44 AM

yea thats some funny shit when that happens...i love sleep wish i could get more of it...:)

About a year ago me and a buddy were taking a little road trip. So he shows up at my place pretty early in the morning, around 7 or so. I wasn't awake yet. So he walks into my room, slaps me, sits down and says to me "dude, have you ever woke up in the morning and you just CAN'T move your body."

I never laughed so hard in my life.

Once in a while in the morning when I'm dosing back off I get this feeling like I'm being electricuted and I'm fully aware of what is going on but I can't move or breath and what seems like hours, but is only minutes--I "Fling" myself awake....

I have no idea what that is, but is it similar to your experiences?

Ditto. And it doesn't matter how tired I am. I must also be in a prone position - I can't sleep sitting up. This REALLY sucks on international or cross country flights. And it usually takes me at least an hour to fall asleep every night. But once I'm asleep, it's a deep, always dreaming sleep.

My son can fall asleep at the drop of the hat. Unfortunately, this became a problem when he happened once while he was driving.

sickkittens 01-22-2004 12:21 PM

Speaking of falling asleep on the job...

A truck driver carrying fuel fell asleep near my house and the truck slammed into a gas station (Sunoco) of all places. Nothing exploded and no one died.

HeadPimp 01-22-2004 12:23 PM

I really value 30 minute power naps in the afternoon. I can work late, get up early and be really useful as long as I can get a decent nap in sometime around 2-3pm. I am still looking for the perfect desk/nap chair though.

Gabriel 01-22-2004 12:24 PM

I tend to lean back in my chair and nap if not my head will fall and land on the keyboa,j./xvz/.xz vidfvzipojzbp

That's micro sleep. I drove the 4 and a half hour trip to New Orleans in what couldn't have been more than 10, 15 minutes max. :1orglaugh

fuzebox 01-22-2004 12:51 PM

I always do that while watching movies... Really annoying, afterwards I try to piece together what I missed

KRL 01-22-2004 12:55 PM

Same thing. I did it driving one time in LA at 5AM after a night of clubbing.

I was in the number 1 lane driving about 50, my eyes got heavy, and my head just started tilting sideways.

By the luck of God, exactly when that happened a CHP unit was right behind me and he saw my head roll over and I went from the #1 lane drifted over 4 lanes and was heading straight off the freeway. He blew his siren loud as hell to wake me up.

Laughing when he pulled me over and said you know I probably just saved your life. Next time you're tired get some coffee and wake up. No ticket which was nice.

Me too. I still do it tho. Usually my girlfriend wakes me up and I bite her head off.

-=HOAX=- 01-22-2004 01:00 PM

I was driving up highway 50 from the bay area to tahoe...its a windy road with a cliff on one side...I drifted off and woke up in the gravel doing about 55 about 6 from careening into the lower truckee river I swerved and nearly lost control.

It was the first time since I was 6 that I peed my pants. I didn't sleep for a full 30 hours afterwards, it was the closest I've ever come to dying.

Any of you guys hear about the new law that makes anyone who falls asleep at the wheel (in sober condition) now potentially able to be tried for manslaughter if you hit someone? I can't remember all the details but I heard it on the radio in the car the other day on NPR, of course that station puts me to sleep some times ;)

JSA Matt 01-22-2004 01:27 PM

I do this every single day when I get off work... go home and hit the bed for 10-20mins. It's a beautiful thing :thumbsup

I did that driving from Cali to Wyoming. It was a 14 hour drive, but only felt like a few hours!

I think I finally woke up as I was on a backroad in Ohio just about to get into Wyoming at like 1 AM and this deer walked in front of my truck with the deer in the headlights look. All I said, was DEER DEER DEER! And had to swerve into the next lane!

That was a close call, atleast I saw the damn thing! :1orglaugh I think I was part way asleep :(

Yes dear, that's sleep paralysis. A lot of people get it.

avion 01-22-2004 01:55 PM

I was used to such short naps when I was younger...not anymore :) not sure why...

Kinda. Except for the time part. I know that it only lasts 2 minutes or so, then i snap out of it. The first few times it happened to me were awful. Like Sly said his buddy told him that he woke up and couldn't move, that is what happens.

You wake up, can see, know whats around you, but thats it. Try moving and you can't. Bit scary.

Oh, usually happens after a night out on 'E' :Graucho
Heavily linked to that aswell...

You're lucky... Last time that happened to me I woke up and realized my car couldn't move because it was hahahahahaded in a parked car on the side of the road. Insurance company loved it that one... :(

liquidmoe 01-22-2004 02:08 PM

I dozed a few times behind the wheel as well, the worst was at about 5am driving home when I was in the left lane and woke up in the right, luckily it was only a few seconds because I was on a turn when it happened, a bit more and I would have ran into the exit sign head on.

I drive from Wisconsin to Pennsylvania often. Ive done that before, then i try to be a "smart driver" and pull over to nap then i cant go to sleep .

gornyhuy 01-22-2004 02:28 PM

I can be dead on my feet, brain is shut down and I drop into a 5 minute power nap and after that I'm good to go for hours!

Good stuff.

GonePhishing 01-22-2004 03:45 PM

I like to take 25 minute naps myself. The only thing is that every now and then I sleep much longer than that, and wake up feeling like I blew the day away.

davecummings 01-22-2004 03:47 PM

I find that setting my alarm clock for 20-25 minutes, then taking a quick "wank" in the rocker-recliner here in my office, then dozing off for 15 minutes makes me refreshed, more focused (on business instead of needing to whack off), and productive. It's usually best for me right after a meal:-))

Dave
www.davecummings.com

P.S. Which reminds me that I just returned from a run and lunch at the beach here in San Diego, so it's now time for me to enjoy what I described above:-))

myjah 01-22-2004 03:49 PM

before i got pregnant i never napped, now i need them hourly
