BUMP

CoolE 07-11-2003 12:36 PM

This is worthy of a bump. I just sent my donation. I hope others donate what they can too. It's a worthy fight for sites large and small.

BrettJ 07-11-2003 01:46 PM

hey quiet - here is that thread you've been waiting for ...

Mr.Fiction 07-11-2003 01:50 PM

We shall overcome!

Mr.Fiction 07-11-2003 01:55 PM

One more thing. Will you be publicly listing those who donate? It may not be a great idea considering that Acacia is likely still looking for targets.

Hooper 07-11-2003 03:10 PM

Way to go JMM.

VideoJ 07-11-2003 03:57 PM

JMM, Far-L and others, great job.

My first donation is on the way and others will follow.

CDSmith 07-11-2003 03:59 PM

Donation: sent.

Awesome that it's up and working. Every working webmaster at GFY should send at least a few bucks. Every bit will help, even five, ten or twenty bucks.

american pervert 07-11-2003 04:01 PM

I heard a rumor you guys have lunchs at places like the mondrian... any truth?

lEricPl 07-12-2003 02:57 AM

What they said.

Mr.Fiction 07-12-2003 03:07 AM

Anyone making money in this industry should send at least $500 to start off with and probably more than that if you can afford it.

These fuckers want a big percentage of all the money you make. Spending a few thousand dollars now to stop them is a great investment in your future. This isn't charity, it's a way for you to make more money in the long run.

Not "make more money"... but it's a way to keep more of the money you have made in the past, or make in the future.

Are you suggesting that because they spend a lot of money (that they have earned with their own sites) that they should foot the entire legal bill to invalidate Acacia patent claims on their own?

Be happy that people that already go to Mondrian for lunch are the ones orchestrating this. :2 cents:

Last thing we need is a bunch of broke fucks collecting all this money for a legal fund :winkwink:

Just because it's late at night, I'll argue that the ambiguity of my original statement made the statement correct.

Fighting this is a way for people to make more money in the future. Not to make more money than they are making now, perhaps, but more money than they would make at some point in the future if they decided not to support the defeat of this questionable patent.

Regardless, I think we agree on this one - give some fucking money! :)

Rumor???

Let me clear up the rumor right now.

Yes, the IMPA had a meeting and lunch at the Mondrian Hotel.

I was not able to physically attend the meeting due to a prior engagement. I attended the meeting via conference call from my office.

I am told that lunch consisted of:

Tunapica tuna tartar, Calimari salad, Cuban spiced chicken, Miso glazed salmon, and the chef's choice of desserts.

I am told that it was quite delicious. The cost for lunch was $30 per person exclusive of beverages, 20% gratuity, and 8.25% sales tax.

The boardroom ($500) and lunch where paid for entirely by Greg Clayman.

While I attended the meeting via conference call, I ate a teriyaki chicken bowl with steamed white meat chicken, hot mustard, and two won tons. The entire cost of my lunch was $7.75 ($5.75 for the actual meal and $2 to my secretary for gas money since she went and picked it up for me). I paid for the entire cost of my meal myself, with my personal funds.

If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

That sounds like some excellent lunches. I may have to go out this afternoon and have something similar. I may even declare it an official lunch in honor of American Perv, who will of course be donating a sizeable amount to the IMPA cause. :thumbsup

Everyone.... send them some money!!
