my business has done incredibly well with mac

video editing and compression/encoding being the center of that business.

i've always said that whatever works for you, is the direction you should move.

i've been very successful with mac. obviously you can be very successful with windows, or any other os.

my point: this entire argument is ghey. i know i've said it before, but i'm horny enough to say it again...

Amputate Your Head 06-27-2003 02:42 AM

what's really funny is that you mac people feel this overwhelming need to defend the merits of a mac at the slightest negative comment.

If Macs are so awesome, would that really be necessary? :)

what's even more amazing is that you feel the need to prove me wrong.

if the windows world was that amazing, why would you be replying.

not trying to prove you wrong.... the majority of the civilized world knows PCs are superior to Macs. No need for me to boost the merits of PC any more than what's already obvious.

I just find Mac people behaviour kind of humorous.

I think they are different machines for different needs.

Go into a magazine office and find the designer working on a PC. But how many of them surf with PCs?

but if you discuss it's, "don't flatter yourself.... I reply to almost everything. Even lil2rich4u2's nonsense."

well, I thought I was following this dialog okay.... until this post. You kinda lost me here. You're quoting two things that don't really have anything to do with each other, and which also contradict your previous point, in an attempt to make a new point of..... ?

you're the one that keeps starting threads about the merits of macs. You see any pro-pc threads popping up proclaiming the worth and value of owning a pc? Wonder why that might be? (Hint: It ain't cuz pc's suck.)

i can pull up post, after post where you do just that. any time...

Ok you want the truth...you cant handle the truth..

Quark used to be the best thing since sliced bread 5-6 years ago.
If you did layout you knew Quark END OF STORY...

Protools dominated the music studio's not sure why but they did, maybe back 5 years ago protools WAS better than anything the PC could come up with...

Now thats not the case..Pro-tools has SEVERLY fallen behind so much that to help secure apples place in the music industry they bought out emagic the producers of logic.. Why would they do that when they have the lions share of the music industry..

I've got audio software that eats protools for lunch and spits it out and shits on it at HALF if not a quarter of the price...

But old habbits die hard right...thats why you still see "old school" designers using mac's... Not cause there better...

goBigtime 06-27-2003 03:00 AM

Mac's kick ass.

Now that they are now possessed by daemons anyway :)

OSX is basically - FreeBSD with native apps from Adobe, Macromedia & many others. Plus mac makes their cool gel GUI's for most of the applications.

All bundled in those sleek & stylish cases...

Come on. That kicks ass.

They are a bit pricey compared to what you can get in the PC world though.

okay.... probly true. Have you not noticed my very public hatred of Macs over the last two years here? I'm not ashamed of it. If I attack and bash on Macs, it's only because I detest them.

in fact, I think I'll start a new thread on that.

Thats such a false statement you cant install a box with freeBSD and get the software to work on it...

FreeBSD is the ruler of the universe, however osx is *not* FreeBSD, similar to how FreeBSD is *not* BSD.

they're all based on each other, and similar, but not truely the same.

I don't think you undestood what I was saying.

I'm saying OSX/Mac _kicks ass_ because of this.

OSX is built on top of FreeBSD... sort of like a private Gnome or KDE... of course OSX is a bit more than a windows manager on top of FreeBSD :winkwink:

But to ME it's FreeBSD with support from big-name software vendors. (And I'm an avid freebsd user)

I don't know what keta's using, but I have both CoolEdit and Sound Forge which are broadcast industry standard. That's right... broadcast industry standard... on PC. Not Mac.

theres a fair bit of difference between cooledit and soundforge compared to protools, or something as good as. Unless they've gotten really good in the last few years since I used them..

no. what they need to know is that the ultimate key to success is a windows machine.

fear the newbies... LOL

pheal 06-27-2003 04:44 AM

Macs are the best but pricey. I've been working on mac since the past five years. I had PC's before and I agree macs are far better systems. But now my mac is getting old and I think I'm going to buy a PC for my work because they're really cheap. If macs were as cheap as PC I wouldn't think twice.

Ironhorse 06-27-2003 04:48 AM

Again people, Macs may be good products but not very flexible and certainly a bit deficient in marketshare. These kind of threads Mac vs. PC have been around since BBS days and they really do nothing but annoy. Why bother?

And what's with the one button mouse, wtf?

I use a mac becuase it _is_ flexible. The mac has about a 5% marketshare, not many single computer brands have that much marketshare.

Sure the platform is not used by as many people as Windows, however more people fly economy than first class too.

For the record, I use a 2 Logitech MX300 scroll mouse with 3 buttons on my Mac, there's nothing making you use a 1 button mouse.

FATPad 06-27-2003 07:24 AM

Why do people care?

If you say my comp sucks I doubt I'll feel the need to explain why my comp rocks and why your's is actually the one that sucks.

If you're happy with it, shouldn't matter what everyone else thinks. Not like you have to bring your PC to the bank and pass a test to cash checks.

On that note, Compaq sucks. haha. Yay for my hypocritical self.
