Just moved to Vegas last month and settled in some. Now I'm looking for things to do.

I used to live in Las Vegas for seven years. I am not sure what kind of info do you need. You can try going to the best buffets in the casinos, but stay away from the average ones, because the food is not good. You can try City Center, and Wynn for this. Other than that, you will be probably making trips to Los Angeles, every once in a while, possibly in a rental car.
Try different grocery stores, and other retail brands, visit them all, and dont just stick to one or two. All of them have a lot to offer, and I've been using just one or two places for the entire time, and did not realize there is a lot of good products in the other ones too. I would be talking about things like Dollar Tree, in addition to 99 Cents store, places like Smart & Final (different locations have different products over there too), Costco, and so on.
As far as food / fast food, check out Samurai Sams, Del Taco is good too. Also Church's chicken, and Qdoba Mexican Grill.
Las Vegas is not a bad place, but a lot of people move out of there fast. Be careful with car mechanics, as they may try to screw you. I would search info on that on the Internet first. It is a nice place, really, one of the best cities in the USA. Other cities that I like are Boston, Washington DC, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. -

Welcome To Vegas
Best advice I can give is "Don't try and live like a tourist." Vegas is like sleeping next to a campfire. Chaming as hell, but you can get burned pretty bad if you aren't carefull.
I have been here since 2001 and I cant think of anyplace I would rather live.

Check out K-Mart, Smart & Final, Food 4 Less, Costco (some food that they sell is old / not good), and all other retail places (including home decoration, and things like that). Again, I used to live there, and I was going to Albertsons, for the most part. I did not go to any of the other ones, and there is a lot of good and original products there. Check out all the places, and figure out where and how you want to shop. Good liquor stores too. There is an entire wine store (like a grocery store) in Henderson too. Go to all these places, over time...
This area is nice (South Eastern, $$$ neighborhood with a lot of businesses and shops)

I am not sure where you are coming from, but Wing Stop wings are very good too!
Be careful with taxi drivers also. 80% of them try to screw you, by taking a longer / unnecessary route, or driving around.
Red Rock Casino and South Point Casino and M Resort are very nice too (casinos for locals).Comment

And I would recommend driving around the city in a way that you dont get no tickets. It is easily doable, and it is worth it. Dont go 10 miles over the posted speed limit, and you are good! All cameras on the streets / freeways / intersections are watched / connected to police. They can do a lot these days, I think that they track license plate numbers too. Face recognition cameras, everywhere you go (all casinos, businesses, gas stations, malls, retail stores, all governement - it is all connected, I think).
Some people say that there are cameras in 95% of hotel rooms too. I would say that all the biggest casinos / casinos on the Strip have them, so be careful what you do...
Check them out too. I would not recommend as much as the other places (the ones that I've recommended before), but I would give them a try (greek salad + gyro)
And yes, dont gamble at all. I've never spent a single Cent on this, really.
Check out Lake Las Vegas area too. In general, drive around on all freeways around town, especially on the West side.Comment

And like I said, it is not a perfect place to live. A lot of people get out fast, and go somewhere else. I've personally changed location too. It would be kind of tempting to come back (probably just visit), but I would definitely go somewhere else...Comment

One more nice area / place to visit there
Another nice area / shopping, check out all the shopping malls too. Town Square, Fashion Show, Premium Outlets, the other ones are very good too.
Green Valley Ranch is another local casino, which is very good. This entire area - The District - is very nice, you need to check it out too. When there, go to Elephant Bar.Comment

There is a ton of all you can eat Sushi places which is awesome and a lot of events. I did a charity santa run that was a blast.

Live in a trailer ( example ) You'll be surrounded by humble people dedicated to survival & a frugal lifestyle.
Present yourself as a tourist well beneath your means, when anywhere outside your trailer park. DO NOT, EVER, present yourself as a local. Do not
Be honest with hookers/escorts of where you are renting your AirBnB one week trailer rental in Vegas ;) You'll get better rates, he/she will be quicker, but well worth the discount. DO NOT let him/her stay the night. They will be gone in the morning, as will your wallet & phone / alcohol / pills / weed stash
Wear a condom
Don't gamble more then $40 a day
Get to know others in the trailer park, they are your most valuable resource. Take the free shuttles with them to the best deals in town.
Vegas is about the experience outside of where you stay.
Volunteer at local organizations, it will keep you mindful of where you'll be if you don't follow the advice above, especially, living in a trailer.

EMPHASIS: In Vegas, nobody you take home will be impressed with where you live. They will always know someone a little better off with a bit of a better place just a ways away. Save big. Live in a trailer.

That is insane. This is a pretty normal city except for one tiny section called "the strip".
And everywhere in this town are LOCAL deals. Locals eat and drink 1/2 price at The Rio for instance. Similar stuff like that all over town.

Unless you are a tourist paying $17 for a well brand drink and blowing thousands going to the "nightclubs" at the big casinos...living here is as cheap as when I lived in South Carolina.
It's exactly the same as living most everywhere else I've ever lived. The only difference is gambling is legal and the casinos are open 24 hours a day.
You will be hard pressed to find many locals (out of the over 2 MILLION people who live here) who actually go to the strip or EVER go to a Casino at 3 in the morning.
Most people in Vegas work normal 9 to 5 jobs, have kids, etc.
I know in the movies and in books it seems that the strip IS Vegas. But it's not. It's just a tiny, tiny section of a big city (geographically as well as population).-Robbie

I am not sure what it is made of, but Del Taco seems to be good quality food, as far as fast foods. Tacos, burritos, and quesadillas that they make, are very good (think crust tacos, regular tacos beef / chicken, thin tortilla tacos, bean burritos - all these are really good).

Church's Chicken is better than Popeye's and KFC, I dont remember any other chains, but it is better than them too, at least from my point of view. You can ask them for hot sauce, every time you get your order, and it goes really good with their food (chicken).

Avoid the strip unless someone is visiting from out of town or you have an itching to do some people watching. There are just as many good restaurants off the strips as on and at sometimes as much as half the price.
Take advantage of locals-only specials for those nights you do want to venture out. Most strip clubs have locals nights where there is no cover for locals. During the slower tourist times, casinos have good deals on room rates for locals.
I'm partial to the Station casinos for a nice place to go out, eat, gamble a little, etc.
I'm a notorious cheapskate, so I price match everywhere that offers it and take advantage of all of the trappings of being a local. If I have the urge to just grab a couple beers and drop $20, I'll hit a local tavern versus a snooty casino hotel bar. Half the price and no tourists to deal with
We also have a growing and vibrant arts scene downtown and a stunning Rocky Horror Picture Show cast ;-)Comment

My advice:
- Eat at Roccos on Charleston/Buffalo at least once every two weeks
- Look into the medical marijuana situation there
- Don't go to Buffets unless you are ridiculously stoned
- If you like to gamble, the casinos in Summerlin are your friend. 50 cent roulette ftw!
- Drive safely, Vegas is nuts on driving, just take your time.
- Most pubs have gambling meaning they are open 24/7, great for late night eats.Comment
