So, winter Olympics 2014, what events will you be watching?

None?
Some?
All??

There is nothing on the planet quite like the Olympics. Anyone who has ever been to one knows this. I will for sure be watching. In fact I will be watching ALL of it, or at least most of it. My DVR has a massive amount of storage space, and I'll be recording the entire games. If the hockey games are shown here at 4 am, 5 am, whatever, it matters not to me. I'll watch it all in my own time.

I've never understood people who hate the Olympics. Nor do I get the mindless idiots out there in the world who try to use the games to further their agenda (threats, terrorism, political BS, etc). It's one of those "you either get it or you don't" things, and sadly a lot of people don't. Fact is the world needs more of what the games stand for, not less.

I'll definitely be watching. Hockey, downhill, snowboarding, bobsleigh, speedskating, all of it, even the curling becomes interesting when it's the Olympics. The eyes of the world are on you Russia, don't fuck this up!

NaughtyRob 01-30-2014 01:39 PM

All of them as much as possible. It goes by very fast.

Rochard 01-30-2014 01:49 PM

My favorite is the involuntary luge.

Paul&John 01-30-2014 01:57 PM

That newer event snowboard cross was damn fun to watch in 2010. I'll be watching for that one again.

L-Pink 01-30-2014 07:35 PM

I absolutely suck at any sport requiring cold weather so my interest isn't that great. I do however enjoy watching a number of sports that I can't even imagine doing.

Nicky 01-30-2014 07:40 PM

I'll watch everything that has Sweden participating and if no Swede's I'll watch mostly hockey and finals of stuff.

EddyTheDog 01-30-2014 07:46 PM

Ski jumping always blows my mind - I get the physics but I am still always amazed they don't break every bone in their bodies - It looks wrong...

I'd have a panic attack, heart attack, shit myself, or land head first. But I do enjoy watching it.

I didn't know that - I wonder if they will have a weight advantage or disadvantage - Less speed on the slope I suppose...

I'm going for disadvantage.....

Maqua 01-30-2014 11:05 PM

I'll watch some of it :)

That's going to be interesting. Personally I've always thought it takes a special kind of crazy to stand at the top of one of those Olympic-sized ski jumps and then actually put on the skis and head down it. They fly how many meters?

I think it's got to be a hundred meters eh? I'll have to check. We lost Lindsey Van to an injury though, she was expected to place in several events, including the jump(s). :(

Sarah_Jayne 01-31-2014 10:39 AM

I actually like watching curling. That year when the UK Women's team did so well, I got sucked into it and enjoyed watching the strategy play. Of course, I forget about it for four years until the next Olympics.

I like that team speed skating event..it has a more proper name that I can't remember but it is like roller derby on ice.

When I was a kid, I used to love figure skating but now, just like with gymnastics, I can't connect that well with the subjectivity of score based events. The events where it is simply whoever did it fastest, highest, etc that I can get into the most.

seeandsee 01-31-2014 10:45 AM

I will watch something, still don't know what :)

mineistaken 01-31-2014 02:40 PM

hockey, skiing.. some others. Its just the spirit of the games, you turn on tv, take a pizza and watch. Its nice.

JFK 01-31-2014 06:09 PM

I thought wrestling was summer olympics :)

robwod 01-31-2014 06:35 PM

I'll be watching most of the events that don't include "dream teams" and otherwise professional ringers.

I enjoy the various competitions and certainly appreciate the work that goes into the athlete's preparation.

blazin 02-01-2014 05:04 AM

I'll be watching the riots and police brutality on YouTube.

They often travel the length of a football field. Must be about as close to a human flying as it gets.

Curling is all about the strategy. Aside from there being some hot women that's the main redeeming quality about the entire sport.

In speed skating there's the team pursuit in long track, and the team relay in short track. I think the short track events are probably more entertaining to watch, but I like to watch the more old school long track races as well.

Agree fully about the judged events. I still watch, mind you. When the skaters land a triple or quad jump it's pretty amazing, but when they land on their ass and go sliding it's even more fascinating. :D

Prepare to be driven mad.

Was just watching some of the new events to the Olympics today, the slopestyle snowboarding and the team figure skating. Pretty interesting stuff so far.

I'm liking these new sports.

I see Stamkos is now out, and Marty St Louis has been named his replacement on Team Canada. Gold here we come. :D
