People with spotless work areas need more work to do.

Actually, some researchers did a paper on that a while ago IIRC. People with messy desks tended to be more productive and had less down time doing nothing than those with spotless areas.

So I must get a hell of a lot done. :P

actually im quite the opposite. i need my neat little piles & to do list, and a lot of empty space on my desk. if its all cluttered i tend to get distracted.

Yeah, exceptions to every rule and all. :) Some people are like that too.

But most I found from the corporate world are CEO/worthless middle management types that don't have shit to do, and think image is important.

You'd walk through and the people working 9-5 would have spotless desks, and always be chatting and/or in worthless meetings. Then the folk who actually did the work and were there 8am to 9pm had these insane stacks of crap that looked like they were about to fall over any time. :)

Then there were the few exceptions (all of them were chicks that I can remember!! ;)

Im glad to hear this, cuz my desk (home & office) are always a mess - Papers and tapes everywhere. Strange thing is that I know where everything is. When I do straighten up, I spend more time looking for stuff I neatly placed away. GO FIGURE

My desk looks fantastic when it's clean.
It lasts all of ten minutes. I have small children who insist on bringing me things I didn't know I owned... and they end up piled on my desk. I actually have a drawer now just for "small unidentifiable parts of things".
Anyone else have one of those? (Junk drawer?)

Damn, my 1 year old brings me everything in the house as soon as I clean my desk too. No drawers on my desk so I have a junk box sitting next to me.

Do leather chair bother you?

I bought one last week but returned it for a cloth one. It iritates me when it's rubbing up on my skin, and it's cold to sit in too.
