Pretty much, but in Europe, without tips. There is no waiter going home with 300+ a night. Where in the US in most decent restaurants. A career waiter has the possibilities of making this. Even in some chain restaurant.

I once knew a guy when I lived in Orlando, who sometimes was able to clear $2500 in a week.

He bused tables in a giant Ponderosa buffet.

I'm not sure. I'm a Jew, and I tip, generally 20%. I don't know a jew that doesn't tip. The only people that I know that don't tip or severely under-tip are Europeans and South Americans.

Actually I relish the "idiot" role. I find it very revealing when people, who don't get the more subtle point that I am making, classify me as an "idiot". It lets me know where I stand.

The fact that people "get" a very very old, very obvious and well worn joke is certainly not a source of surprise to me. Is it surprising to you? EVERYONE on the thread got the joke. Some of them just chose to talk about something else. I have a ton of old "jew" jokes, and everybody would "get" them. I have jokes about pretty much every single ethnicity on earth, and everyone would get them.

We spoke with a really cool guy in Rome and he told us the average waiter in his place did about 300 euros a week. He had to share an apartment with friends so they could have a place that was not a roach infested dump.

Most of Italy is like that, the cost of living re wages is bad.. but they do get a wage.. rather than in the US alot of places pay like what $2 an hour + tips. They´re probably on $10+ an hour.

I doubt waiters anywhere live in Penthouses. You gave up the dream of living in a penthouse when you become a waiter. But in many restaurants in NYC you can earn a very good living and make it a career.
