When will we see the first drone strike on US soil?

http://openchannel.nbcnews.com/_news...icans#comments

A confidential Justice Department memo concludes that the U.S. government can order the killing of American citizens if they are believed to be ?senior operational leaders? of al-Qaida or ?an associated force? -- even if there is no intelligence indicating they are engaged in an active plot to attack the U.S

So much for due process.

As long as I'm not buying explosive materials on the black market, what do I have to worry about? Go ahead and watch my boring-ass life.

Due process for what? Taking up arms against the nation and planning terrorist attacks as part of an ongoing war is not a criminal matter. Of course, I can see where such obvious facts escape those who are suffer from paranoid delusions.

Ever heard of a slippery slope?

Laws like the NDAA start off as innocent things like "We will detain people without trial who are involved in terrorism," but later on down the line they will be locking people up for simply speaking their mind about the government.

Don't people understand how shit like this works? I guess they don't study history much...

StickyGreen 02-04-2013 10:14 PM

If any American thinks that it's okay for an American citizen to be indefinitely detained without trial then you are a brainwashed fool and a traitor. Simple as that.

You know... Innocent until proven guilty..:thumbsup

You're ok with a "high ranking member of the government" believing you're a threat?
I'll quote that again.

There's a group of kids that fuck up everything in my neighborhood. They play football in the park near my house on Saturdays. That would be a good time to send the hellfire missile, while they're all in one place.

You could worry about mistaken identity. The FBI raids the wrong house all the time. Would suck to get caught up in some shit you had nothing to do with.

wehateporn 02-05-2013 05:09 AM

So far 'Suicides' and 'Stokes' are doing the job just nicely :2 cents:

When you're emotionally and mentally unhinged, everything becomes a "slippery slope" and that argument never ends no matter what the topic. "Slippery slope" means "i have no rational and defensible argument".

Your problem is consistently with authority. Maybe its chemical. Maybe your father beat you. Maybe you were abused in some other way. There is something there without question and it affects your ability to live a fulfilling life. You should stop at some point and start asking yourself "am i happy" and "why am i so paranoid" and start the process of healing yourself and finding happiness.

At the end of the day, if you are at war and you have a confirmed enemy combatant ANYWHERE, he's target. He's not a criminal. End of story. This nation treated terrorism like a criminal matter and many successful terrorist attacks, including 9/11 was the direct result.

keysync 02-05-2013 09:41 AM

I take it you would be ok with being the target (falsely accused or not) of a drone strike.

As long as it's just those annoying kids that fuck everything up I'm ok with it.. also can we add any group that hangs around in the street like a bunch of hoodlums to the list?

That could be considered a "Group" and all you need is a high ranking member of the government to think they're up to no good and BLAMO!!!

Quiet neighborhood once again. As soon as they fill and repave the hole they just blew in the ground.

Oh... you're asking if i'd be ok with a 1:1,000,000,000 hypothetical?

Uhm... yeah. I guess the odds are pretty much in my favor.

There is no "due process" outside of the United States, and the US Constitution does not protect American citizens outside of the United States. Outside of the US there are no courtrooms, no judges, no juries; If the US decides are you are an enemy combatant you will be targeted and taken out by the US military.

_Richard_ 02-05-2013 10:55 AM

i thought drones were deployed against mexican/canadian borders?

those haven't been fired at all?

Rather than you trying to be some sort of douchebag armchair psychiatrist and assume things about my life I think we should stay on topic, which is the government being allowed to detain or assassinate AMERICAN CITIZENS without a trial.

If you agree with something like this then you don't deserve to be an American.

Just because someone in the government "says" someone is a terrorist/criminal doesn't always mean that it's true. This is why we are supposed to have due process and people should be innocent until PROVEN guilty.

This is so fucking sad what's happening to our country, and it's even worse that so many people are okay with it...

It's called the LAW, and until recent years people actually used to respect it and abide by it...

We now live in a lawless country where our rights are steadily being taken away one by one, and all of you morons are perfectly fine with it... it's disgusting...

slapass 02-05-2013 01:44 PM

This is a really bad precedent. I understand striking at known terrorists but it does seem way off the chart for the President to authorize a strike on a US citizen regardless of what he has done. Innocent until proven guilty is a pretty big thing, and one that I do not like haven taken away.

Not when you are in a foreign country.... If the US military arrests you in a foreign country, you have zero rights as an American Citizen. US Law does not apply in Afghanistan or Yemen.

I'm pretty sure if they weren't wearing dresses they would be much happier. In fact I think that picture proves what I'm saying..

See the one dude in the grey shirt on the right? He's obviously a styling young Muslim hipster and look how happy he is, because he's wearing pants and a beanie. Then look at all the other dudes, whom are all wearing dresses and all very mad looking.

The proof is in the picture.. Men wearing pants = less suicide bombers and less holy wars..
