Outrage over last month's shooting death of an unarmed teen in Florida has put a new focus on the state's "Stand Your Ground" law. The widow of a man shot dead in front of his daughter, says it is a free pass for murder.

When David James, an Iraq War veteran, escaped combat in the Middle East unscathed, his wife Kanina breathed a sigh of relief.

"I would worry about him but I thought he'd be safe here," she said.

Kanina was wrong; and now wants to know why Trevor Dooley, a 71-year-old retired bus driver, shot her husband in broad daylight, right front of their eight-year-old daughter. Dooley claims it was self defense. Kanina James calls it murder.

What a fucked up Law.

The law isn't fucked up.... (a person should be allowed to defend themselves) the way it's being applied improperly is fucked up. By pulling his weapon out prior to being attacked, Dooley is committing aggravated assault, and therefore not able to say that he was defending himself.

Difference in this situation is that charges WERE made and the case is going to trial. In the Zimmerman case no charges were filed.

I dont care about race of any person in either case, all i care about is what is right. When something happens to me, (ie my uncle being robbed at gunpoint in the next door apartment by black kids 15-17yrs old a few weeks ago ) I want justice: either legal (which i prefer) or if necessary street.

What about Trayvons parents? Do you have children? Ask yourself that question. Should they just shut the fuck up? After not getting answers from the local PD should they just go home and be good niggas and not cause a ruckus? What if your normal 17 yr old boy left at halftime of a basketball game to get his little brother some candy and himself some tea. And never came back. What would you do? I feel for victims of crime across all spectrum's, I watch first 48 and watch young black men (whites and latino are well represented also) destroy themselves and other peoples lives. I read the effects of long term molestation at the hands of priest (who are 98% white). A victim is a victim. Everything i have learned on the streets and in life tells me Zimmerman is not a victim neither is this Dooling.

That law is fucked up, i have a few people i would like to take down to florida :2 cents: The cases are eerily similar, I wanted justice for both victims. I dont believe deadly force was necessary or appropriate in either case. Dooley looked fine for someone who had been choked by a much bigger and stronger man. If James wife wanted too she can cause a shit storm, however Ill never judge a victim on their actions following a traumatic event. At least in this case it was broad daylight and witnesses who saw that his hands was on his arms.

You will shoot to kill for a punch, In a 1 on 1 fight? Interesting, as long as your are drawing that weapon at the same speed no matter who the person is Im fine with that. You will have to deal with the consequences of that and if you are fine with that I am too.

I think a mob is totally different. But you have as much right to life, liberty, and property as the next guy. No one should be allowed to deprive you by for example: walking to the store, following and chasing you, cutting you off, questioning you, threatening you with a gun. I think you have all rights to protect your space and family.

If I have a gun and someone punches me then damn right I'm going to shoot them. I might not aim for the head but hey I might aim and hit the head I wouldn't see anything wrong with it as long as I was minding my business and someone attacked me.

If I don't have a gun sure I'll use my hands but that's only after I've looked around and seen that there weren't any knives, rusty screwdrivers or glass that I could use.

Obviously in the case of the guy following someone and confronting them and then shooting them it should be illegal.

Imagine you are there with your daughter and this unfolds.

A punch, a kick a bb to the temple can kill. If I or my family is attacked in any way. I will absolutely use the weapons I am licensed to use. I would argue that you are morally obligated to use deadly force if you fear for the life of your loved ones or yourself.

Where I live, an unprovoked attack = fear for my life. I'd be grabbing snacks from the comfort of my home.

Let me ask .. why should I need to know how to fight?
