Drinking water out of a garden hose will fuck you up 10X's more than smoking a pound of this effect-less herb. If you are getting high off of Salvia, then you are really not using Salvia - it is either laced, or it is something else entirely. Salvia does nothing.
The best use for it may be to mix it 50/50 with weed, so your joints look and feel more substantial, and will smoke down more evenly. Salvia is definitely much smoother than tobacco in that regard, but it offers no "high" at all.

The wife used to watch the tv show The Doctors....awhile back they did a segment where a doctor was researching salvia and its effects. They monitored brain waves and behavior:
first of all you need to do it with a torch lighter because the alkaloids in it break down at extremely high temperatures.
and second, you probably smoked some crap or didn't do it right. get at least 5x extract and smoke a couple good bowls.
like AMP said, it has a potency to really fuck you up.
All of what you and AMP are saying may be true. All I know is that smoking it in a joint, or in a bowl using a regular match or lighter, will yield no results.
Perhaps a torch lighter makes it work, but this is the first I am hearing of it, so maybe you guys have a point. Why is this turning into an argument? It would be cool if it worked, as it is still legal in most areas.
From my experience however, it does not live up to any of the hype.

get some extract, put it in a bong, use a torch lighter and prepare to enter a whole new dimension. The shit is real bro. You're either doing it wrong or you're using the wrong shit. Salvia is no joke.

why don't you at least read up on drugs you're taking?
pretty much every "how-to" on Salvia mentions a torch lighter

The guy in the video (a few posts above) did not use a torch lighter. Although I do not believe he was high at all, but I guess it made for an interesting show segment.
I read up on most things I try, and the write up for the effects of Salvia was almost line-for-line what the guy in that video repeated - which is precisely why I do not believe that clip in the least. It was staged silliness, complete with the description of what the effects of Salvia supposedly are.

if you're looking for a 'high' like you would expect from weed, you're going to be disappointed. Again, Salvia is an atypical hallucinogen. The effects cannot be accurately described in words, you have to experience it for yourself. I'm not lying to you dude, there is no point. I've done the shit many times.

This is either fake or they are doing it wrong.
A person fucked up on salvia wouldn't be able to walk, much less have a coherent conversation with anyone. He'd be lying down traveling the other worlds.
The trip is very intense, but very short too (5-10 mins)
Oh and the best way to do it is be alone in a dark room, lying down. If you're clowning around with a bunch of people around you might not even feel it. So yeah, go read on how to smoke it the proper way.

Who said you were lying? I am not arguing with anyone over this - it is just a conversation.
If the high heat from a torch lighter makes the difference, then I was wrong - who cares?
If "extract" is necessary, versus dried leaves, then there you go! - who cares?
It's just another stupid GFY conversation.... no big deal. It's not like I have a vested interest in this. In a few months it will just be another illegal drug anyway.
Salvia is in the mint family, like catnip. I wonder if the torch lighter theory also works with catnip....

I read up on it, and the first time I tried it I was alone, on a bed, in a dark room. I did everything that was suggested and recommended, and... nothing!
I did not try the torch lighter though, as it was ever mentioned, so who knows....

You don't need extract, but it helps. You can still have pretty intense lower level experiences with a lighter, but not matches. You have to take as big a hit as possible and hold it in for as long as possible and when you exhale, if you are still able, take another hit as big as possible and hold that one in as long as possible also. It definitely works.
You can also roll leaves up into a quid and put it in your lip and hold it there for a long while. It's very unpleasant but it works and lasts markedly longer than smoking it and its less intense.
Trips are often very different. People who start smoking it sometimes have a reverse tolerance where it won't do much their first few tries.
When it does work, you can experience cascading colors, seeing beings(often called 'the goddess'), feel like you're in an alternate reality and more.

even if you used a lighter, did you keep the hottest part of the flame on it at all times?
Never touched the stuff myself, but if you had ever been around someone who used it and ACTUALLY KNEW HOW to use it, you would NOT be in here spewing this nonsense. That stuff is capable of sending you to another fucking planet. It can actually be quite uncomfortable to even be around someone on salvia, depending on how they handle it, because it is that intense.

Thanks for all of the advice, but any drug that requires special mood lighting, no friends, no distractions, and torch lighters, is way too much work, and a bridge too far. I'll just stick with weed and alcohol.
LSD is, was, and will always be, at the top of the hallucinogenic food chain.
Salvia, nutmeg, rosewood seeds, mushrooms, morning glory seeds, and whatever other silliness hits the zeitgeist, will never live up to the king of the tripper drugs. If you really want to trip, then acid is the shit....period.

it's not a recreational drug, so you are probably better off without it
I smoked the leaves and felt absolutely nothing. Then I smoked 20X extract and turned into a spaghetti-o.
Now we've gone full circle. That's how this all began. Smoking the dried Salvia leaves, in any way like you smoke weed, does not yield any results. After all of the arguing it would appear everyone is in agreement with my original assessment after all.

Or more than the slightest taste test of mushrooms... Comparing psilocybin to fucking nutmeg? Puhlease. Shrooms can put you on your ass harder than LSD depending on amount/quality as it's a bit less of a "clean" high.
