San Francisco Circumcision Ban
 

San Francisco residents may vote on a ballot measure next year that would outlaw circumcision.

The initiative, which requires 7,000 signatures before it can be added to next November's ballot, would make it a misdemeanor to "circumcise, excise, cut or mutilate the...genitals" of all minors, and would not make exceptions for religious reasons.

The decision to permanently remove a boy's foreskin should not be made by parents, says Lloyd Shofield, the proposal's author.

I've lived in Europe, so I don't have a vehement opposition to foreskins or anything, but that seems like an effed up thing for government to be all up in, especially when there is a religious issue for so many cultures.

Do we have to have this discussion every time that there is a story about circumcision? There is nothing wrong with a well kept uncut penis. Just like an unclean man that just so happens to be cut isn't going to have an appealing penis regardless of his lack of foreskin. There is no need to circumcise men as standard practice. Both kinds of penises are great when they are attached to somebody that knows how to take care of them and use them, The weird 'fear' of foreskin is just irrational.

It isn't as if this conversation hasn't been had here many times before and more often than not what is said does come down to fear of the unknown. Sure, if there are religious reasons fine but there is no actual reason other than those made by man (such as religion) to circumcise. Now, do I think it should be against the law? No but I also don't see why it should be the standard. The best penis is the one attached to the person you are attracted to and if it is cut or not is just a detail.

Prevention of phimosis (the inability to retract the foreskin) and paraphimosis (the inability to return the foreskin to its original location).
Circumcision also makes it easier to keep the end of the penis clean.

you are born with foreskin, a dick with foreskin is normal, that makes a circumcised one not normal. Interesting how it is now part of US culture to cut it off without any clear reason (like religion is the reason in other cultures), when it's not normal in all other western countries.
