Indeed, did Desert Storm + WestPAC with the Marines on the Vancouver (decommissioned that ship afterwords) transferred to the Ranger and did another WestPAC (decommissioned that ship upon arrival) transferred to Lake Champlain and finished up my term. |

they mothballed my Sub in 99 I think, I went on 2 west pacs. I missed going on a blue nose by 2 months, that's going under the ice pack, that would have been cool, literally! |
Congratulations to Canadian Horse Guard.

Veterans need boobs on their face you know..

Happy Veterans Day to my fellow brothers and sisters in arms

Glad I didn't miss my ShellBack initiation! http://spannow.com/boards/wogday.jpg (for those who don't know: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Line-crossing_ceremony ) I hear they stopped doing it when ships went coed, very sad to let a centuries-old tradition like that disappear... |
Now I have to find a couple pics i have from my duty in 1969 as an Army MP
(they weren't where i thought they were) props and respect to all others who served |

There's no way the initiation is the same though right?! They have to have tamed it down 1000% percent I mean what we went through was borderline criminal (and I'd do it all over again) lmMFao! |
Yes thank you all of you! My brother is currently serving in the navy.

This ought to bring back a few memories: Steel Beach Picnic (It took me 5 shots to get the whole flight deck!) http://spannow.com/boards/Steel_Beach_Picnic.jpg |

It's actually considered sanctioned hazing... (USMC here, crossed the equator in 2001 :P) |
My first one, we did underwater, my pictures are buried somewhere, I should try to find them. We surfaced afterwards and went for a swim. I later had to do look out for sharks, LOL

I'm 3 to the right from the circled guy (blond hair). I look short in this - I'm actually 5'10" in socks - those are some tall guys :)
A photo taken by ENC Harry Lowrey (SWCC) (circled), of Special Boat Units 12 and 13, aboard the Mobile Sea Base WimBrown VII, in 1988. This was one of two MSB's we used during the Earnest Will convoy operations in the Persian Gulf. The other was the MSB Hercules. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1390/...f8a0f51d15.jpg SBU-12 and SBU-13, MSB WimBrown VII, January 1988 by PhilippinePhotos, on Flickr |

We stayed in Perth for a little over a week, and picked up something like 40 new crew. When we passed back over, we had another ceremony, so nearly the entire crew, and all the people who were newly qualified shellbacks, got to beat on me for a few hours. No one knew the new guys so they left them alone. Took me three hours and 4 complete circuits around the ship's deck to finally hit the pool. Man.. my palms and knees were in ribbons from crawling on non-skid. Had about 80 welts on my ass and thighs. Covered in grease, rotten food, and other assorted nastiness. I'll never look at a hot dog in the same way again. It was worth every minute. |
