Preferred Booze for Cocktail Parties????

TopBucks is gearing up for our cocktail party and in the past we have had to ship back or give away a lot of alcohol.

So before I do this year's alcohol run, I want to know what people will really drink. In the past these have been FAILURES:
- Tanqueray
- Mojito and Blood Mary mix
- Pucker
- Too much Captain Morgan

What we know we will get a plethora of:
- Beer (and a lot of Bud Light ... sadly that seems to be what we go through the fastest)
- Grey Goose/Belvedere Vodka

Jager is a toss up, I've had a lot left over and some years it's gone. So I'd like some suggestions of what people will actually want to see served.

GO!

1 ounce of Jack Daniels and I am good.

spazlabz 11-03-2010 09:54 AM

ShellyCrash turned me on to St Germain, there are a lot of recipes for it on line and has a really smooth taste

Whats the fun in that?

kristin 11-03-2010 09:54 AM

Also, I have wine and champagne covered. I'm pairing some wines with the food we are serving. Should be yummy.

I'm hand delivering it. =)

I haven't done any announcement yet, stay tuned. I'm still working out all the details to make it a good one!

Jack Daniels. Malibu rum. Those are a must.

Sweet - well I've recently taken up alcoholism as a hobby so make sure there's plenty of Popov.

kristin 11-03-2010 10:10 AM

Okay so here's what's on my list thus far:

- Jack Daniels
- Cruzan Rum (sorry, no Malibu)
- Grey Goose vodka - plain and orange flavored
- Tequila
- Beer, wine, champagne

Wizzo 11-03-2010 10:17 AM

Bacardi is always a good choice, because it can be mixed with a number of things... Coke, DietCoke, Sprite, OJ, etc...

rhizome 11-03-2010 10:18 AM

How can you have a cocktail party without rye whiskey, cognac, brandy and gin? Plus a selection of liquers (Triple Sec, St. Germain, Absinthe, Chartreuse ,etc.) , vermouth (sweet and dry), bitters, sugar, lemons, limes?

I have a bottle of vermouth with one drink taken out of it. I have a full bottle of Barcardi no one touched. They don't get drank unfortunately.

Bacardi is for frat parties, you're TopBucks, woman! Get Ten Cane.

Slutboat 11-03-2010 11:02 AM

In a f.y.o.d (fix your own drink) sort of event, most of all that will go to waste. You need someone with decent skills to make it all happen and not a bunch of drunk people playing mixology while eating cheetos. :winkwink: Neither one of those rent-a-douchbag-bartender thing with a guy flying bottles around and pulling subpar mojitos out of his ass.

For a d.i.y thing, my choices would be: Gordonīs and Beefeaters, Stoli and SKYY, Bacardi Aņejo, Jim Beam and Jack and assorted beers (a solid couple of kegs with micro-brewed beer a plus). Coke, 7-Up and Schweeps a plenty.

Glad to see Jager is dying. :thumbsup

Sly 11-03-2010 11:07 AM

Maybe instead of a cocktail party we should have a white trash party.

PBR all the way baby!

Django 11-03-2010 11:14 AM

A mojito thanks :1orglaugh

Hazlewood 11-03-2010 11:16 AM

crown royal never fails for the guys

Honez 11-03-2010 11:18 AM

As someone who has bartended for cocktail parties, my experience is less is more. People will drink what you have. My short list would include:

Beer
Wine
Vodka
Spiced Rum

You could also do a signature drink for the night or make up a tasty rum punch. :)

RyuLion 11-03-2010 11:20 AM

Grey Goose, Captain, Don Julio Silver

I love St. Germain. Glad you're still on to it :thumbsup

For cocktail parties I've found just putting a bottle of St. Germain out doesn't work, but if you make a few drinks an d start offering them to people it goes real fast.

Generally I say for your basic bar get Jack Daniels as your whiskey, Captain Morgan or Segrams for your rum, and Grey Goose or Kettle One as your Vodka. Mixers get coke, sprite, cranberry juice, sour mix, and a bottle of grenadine.

Easiest girly drink in the world- sprite, rum, splash of grenadine.. like a boozy shirley temple. I'm sure it has a name but I don't know what it is.

Midori is another alcohol I would add to the don't buy list. Women always requests it but no one ever drinks it. I've bought a few bottles for office functions over the years and it always winds up getting trashed.

Also I say stay away from OJ as a mixer. I think it's the acid in it, but people seem to tend to barf it up more than anything else.

Jameson... but that's my defacto... and I like it because no one but me will go near it until the car bombs starting landing.

Jon Oso 11-03-2010 12:35 PM

I was a bartender for about 2 years, our biggest sellers anywhere were Jack, Patron, Vodka (we stocked a lot of three olives and stoli, goose,), and bottled beer.

Could always do fun stuff like saki bombers that people can do themselves, or just hire a bartender that knows how to pour to make things happen for ya.

A signature drink for the party is a great idea as Honez suggested, something simple and quick to make yet delicious is the best.

DamianJ 11-03-2010 12:42 PM

I'd like a range of bottled beers. Although bud light seems to be popular, how about sam adams, or corona, or something, you know, that taste of actual beer, rather than water?

:D

bns666 11-03-2010 12:50 PM

How can Tanqueray be a failure?

Cocktail parties just can't work good if people have to mix their own drinks, for that beer and wine only work, everything else which includes mixing more than two ingredients, not to mention measuring, muddling, shaking and stuff like that is destined to fail.

Labatt Blue it is!

We usually have some Guiness, Heineken, Corona, and some others. I'm a beer snob and would prefer IPAs. =)

Oh gosh, well I was just being nice asking for sam adams as that is everywhere. You guys have awesome microbreweries for proper beers over there. And yes, I will join you in IPA appreciating anytime! Especially as we *invented* IPA over here, in the 17th century.

:)

Hey, I said *my* short list. :winkwink:

magicmike 11-03-2010 01:45 PM

I always like to see CC or Crown or some kind of Canadian whisky, gibsons finest is prb. my favorite regular brand.

Vodka is really popular with the wm crowd it seems, and of course beer.
