Maybe if the present administration didn't fuck up everything with Obamacare, this wouldn't have happened

Almost every health insurance company is raising the cost of premiums in America to help cover the cost of changes because of Obamacare, like insuring children till the age of 26. That cost is passed on to us and the employers that we work for, unless we're self employed, then it's just us. That extra cost of every employee is I believe keeping the economy from bouncing back. That's why employers can't afford to hire new people and why we have a stagnant unemployment rate. Less people working, means less people paying taxes that pay for the government. Less money paid to the government, means they have to raise taxes to support the government, which means less money for everyone that pays taxes, so more people, including the poor have to pay taxes. Less money made, means even less money in the economy, yet the government continues to grow and expand it's power.

Someone please explain to me how this can work?

I can not believe how incompetent this fucking admin is. I am all for cutting government programs but this one would have been the last on the list. Fucking food stamps? Seriously?

They are working on cutting some military budgets, too. Everything is getting cut.

Congressman Obey was complaining that the administration's first suggestion to fund the State Aid bill was to cut the food stamp program. Teachers unions vote more often and have more money to contribute than the poor.

What I'm really curious about is whether or not the teachers got help from the Fed with or without concessions. If there was concessions and the Fed still needed to kick in... not ideal, but okay... if there were no concessions, that's not okay at all.

Honestly if the programs were Policed, the amount of Fraud that can be caught would prob pay for (people policing the programs) and LOTS of other things!

I think it is a bad move to JUST Cut a program like this, the scammers will always win.

In just nine months spanning late 2009 and early 2010, the House spent $2.6 million on food and beverages for members and staff, according to the Sunlight Foundation's House Expenditure Reports Database. That figure includes $604,000 just for bottled water, showing that Congress is not just hungry but thirsty, too.

Leading the rush to the taxpayer-funded trough was Democrat Gregorio Sablan, the Northern Mariana Islands' first-ever House delegate, who topped the list of big spenders on food at $23,457. Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., led the catering charges, accounting for $7,536 of the House's $397,000 total tab.

And too often it wasn't merely subsistence grub on the menu. The House Committee on Foreign Affairs spent $35,824 -- all in one shot -- with a company that helps run a gourmet D.C. restaurant for celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck. And confirming that Congress and pork go together, the House spent $10,673 with barbecue restaurants.

It's gluttony, Capitol Hill-style. And it rightly sticks in the craws of taxpayers who pay for their own food and drink.

not long ago on here certain members wanted to get rid of welfare and food stamps. now those people think its bad they are being cut.

Isn't that all within their individual office budgets though? I believe they get X amount of money for office expenditures each year. If they want to spend it on bottled water, that's their choice, so long as they don't ask for more.

How does Obamacare translate to less jobs? I know you like to blame the guy for everything V, but I don't get it. You're saying if his healthcare bill hadn't passed we'd all be working and enjoying the good times again?

That is pretty much fact at this point. Companies are sitting on the largest money supply in history and businesses are scared shitless to hire because no one really knows what Obamacare is all about and do not know what other job killing bills they will pass in the next 2 years.

You ever been in line behind someone who uses food stamps? Do you know how many people abuse it? I worked in the grocery store cashing people's steaks, brand name everything, as well in CS where I had to give people their food stamps.

I think if they have to cut back, this is one area they can do it. Make the guidelines stricter and you'll weed out the shitty ones.

They can do this with WIC too. (Women, Infant, Children) I remember one chick got on it and told me to go get on it as well cause they don't check your income. I make pretty decent money, I can afford cereal, milk and cheese for my kids. But yet another person abusing it because they can. There are no checks and balances on these types of programs anymore.

I've seen figures like that before. I saw something about Nancy Pelosi and her flower expenditures. This article went on and on and on about how Nancy spent all of this money on flowers. It ended up being one semi-basic bouquet for $100 a week that came out of her office discretionary budget. So instead of spending $100 a week on paper, yes, she chose to add some flowers to her office to make it look nice. So what?

Put things in perspective and complain about real issues. You are complaining about 435 members of Congress and their staffs (what are we talking, five people at least?) spending $2 million in what... four months? So that's $500 a month, spread out between 435 congressmen (plus staff) which comes down to a little over $1000 a month. Break that down and we had $250 a week to cover office drinks, maybe some snacks, some water, food for guests, etc. etc. That's nothing.

They need reform, last time that was done was 1994 and it needs it again, when illegal aliens get on it, it's a problem, but cutting to pay out to the powerful unoins is not an answer

Yes I have. I worked at a large grocery store in HS and my fiance managed convenient stores that had a location next to section 8 housing. I know it is abused. but it is damn hard to abuse. What needs more restrictions is the cash that people get from the government.

Foodstamps you can only buy food with, cash you can buy anything. So the parent goes into the store buys mac and cheese for the kids dinner then uses "their cash side" of their food stamp card to buy cigs and booze.

We need to stop that.

Things we could have cut.

1) IRS
2) Military
3) DOE
4) CIA
5) FBI
6) Congressional office budgets

What company did you work for last that had those benefits in bad economic times, when companies are suffering, things get cut back. Companies that gave out safety awards had to stop that because the government taxed them on it.

I have a friend that buys foodstamp cards from people selling them $.50 on the dollar. LOL. I suppose I shouldn't laugh... but that's one way people get around it.

More expenses in hiring due increases in health insurance puts a damper on hiring and expanding.
Now if the Tax cuts go away, it will get worse
