Why do adults in America get excited about Halloween?
 

In Canada (at least where I am from) Halloween is purely a childrens holiday. Anyone over 15-16 doesn't get involved outside of getting candy and maybe making some pies and seeds.

Why is it that Americans (especially women) like to dress up and consume too much alcohol on what should be a childrens holiday?

Jeezuz Brad, what podunk sinkhole are you from? Here in Winnipeg, CANADA, there are literally tons of halloween bashes and costume parties for adults. Hell every bar in the city has a halloween bash every year, all for adults.

Halloween here is as big if not a bigger deal for adults. People get the kids thing done by 8:30 pm, then it's off to have the real fun.

If you've never gotten laid at/from a halloween bash you have not lived.

The two most accurate comments on Halloween would be the Dead Kennedy's song "Halloween" and I think it was the Onion's satirical news report a few years ago that Halloween was officially going to be re-named "National Dress Like A Slut Day"

Dunno where you live but in Toronto Halloween is a big party. I'll be going to a few halloween parties this weekend, bring on the slutty costumes!!

If you saw the mobs of adults at the costume stores last night looking for costumes for themselves you might think otherwise. Its just another fun party. Kids have their fun from 6-9pm, after that why can't adults have their fun too?

364 days a year you're you. For some people that's not a great thing I guess. But that one night of the year they can put on some crazy costume and literally be anyone or anything, and get away with it.

Ever had a shot at fucking an Elvira lookalike? A slutty witch? Zena? Wonderwoman? BATGIRL?

Not sure where in Canada your from, but out in Quebec we take it seriously.

Each year my house gives out the best bags on the block. We budget about $400 for candy, and another $1000 or so in decorations. We tend to keep most of the stuff from each year so it gets bigger and bigger every year.

Halloween is fun, get to watch my wife and her hot friends in skimpy little outfits. :pimp

Unless you live in Seattle and then you can pretty much wear what ever you want and no one will really pay any attention.

For the kids. The 9 yr old is all excited about it, so we carved pumpkins and put up halloween decorations.

It's a reason to dress up and party! And for parents it's fun to go out trick-or-treating with the kids and then meet up with other parents at a halloween house party.. we get to unwind with some drinks while the kids get more amp't with candy and friends. It's a win win.

I believe we have lost what the spirit of Halloween truly represents. I feel like Halloween has become nothing more than the greatest gimmick for corporations to make millions at this time of the year. It used to be a very special time, however the American corporate commercialization of Halloween started a few years ago, how sad that we have relinquished our spirit of tradition to the way of commercialization.

Same reason people get excited for St Pas day etc. Just another reason to get drunk/party. On Halloween you get to be someone else on top of that. All good fun. Btw, Toronto is great on Halloween. Tons of parties.
