FUCK YOU health insurance!

So I hurt my back really bad almost 2 weeks ago. When I first hurt it, my chiro told me I needed an MRI ASAP to see if it was a slipped or torn disc. This was a Wednesday, I scheduled on for Thursday. Turns out my health insurance, Aetna, who I pay $200 for every month, pushed it back to Friday because they were trying to decide if they were going to pay for it or not. Then it got pushed back to Friday, Monday.. Tuesday they decide to not pay for it. They say I need to be injured and receiving treatment for 8 whole weeks before they would pay for anything. I will be in a fucking wheelchair if this goes on for 8 weeks! They also said I have a $5000 deductable on chiro, which basically means "fuck you pay for it yourself"

So I had to resort to shopping around for my own MRI.. I found them from $680-$490 is the cheapest I have found. The soonest they can get me in is Friday morn. Then I have to wait till Monday to get the results. So that will be almost 3 weeks with a back injury that should have gotten taken care of the day after I hurt myself.

I wont be surprised if I find out walking around with this injury for 3 weeks has fucked me up more and I will prob need MORE medical care, who knows if my insurance will pay for it or not.

Now I feel like calling them and screaming at them "WHAT THE FUCK DO I PAY YOU FOR... INSTANCES LIKE THIS YOU FUCKING ASSHOLES!!!!" but then they would probably drop me, then I'd be even more screwed.

I'm fucking pissed. thanx for letting me vent guys :(

Cripple porn could be hot.

Very sorry to hear about your back. And yes, it sounds like you are getting totally fucked. And not in the way that you enjoy.

baddog 08-18-2009 05:29 PM

HMO or PPO? and you knew your deductible, surely.

Oh I just noticed your $5,000 deductible on chiro. If I recall correctly, that is a pretty typical policy when it comes to chiro as many do not believe that chiro is all that it's cracked up to be.

Of all the people I know that have visited a chiro on a regular basis, I can't think of one that did not have to pay all out-of-pocket.

I used to be a settlement negotiator for a law office and we would never let our clients visit one. Very poor settlements. Go to a real doctor.

They bend you to make you feel good but you are tweaked to break again. You always return that way.

MetaMan 08-18-2009 05:43 PM

Why the hell should they pay for your chiro?

96ukssob 08-18-2009 05:44 PM

Seriously, fuck Aetna.

I had a kidney infection and called my family doctor. They said he was booked up that day but to call an urgent care. before I went I called Aetna and they told me I was covered 100%, only had to pay the copay.

I go to the urgent care and get a prescription and told to go to my family doctor to follow up within 3 weeks. So I go to the family doctor and he runs some blood tests.

I get the bill in the mail today saying Aetna is NOT paying a single fucking penny. Even tho they said I was covered, they claimed it could of been a pre-existing condition and they will not cover it. Pre-existing? WTF?!?!? Yeah, Ive had this for 3 years and decided now would be a good time to get it taken care of.

Fuck you Aetna

My mom was in a light accident once, I can't remember what happened, but she hurt her neck. So she went to the chiropractor, again, and again, and again. This went on for two months. Finally she actually went to a doctor and the doctor was livid... the chiro was only hurting her with each visit and was not taking care of the problems in anyway. Doctor gave her some muscle relaxers and a few exercises, shortly thereafter she was totally fine.

Since then I have been very dubious of chiros. Sure it could have been an isolated incident, but I would much rather see a doctor.

Both my son's are seeing Orthopedic docs this month. One for his lower back and the other for his knee. The older one currently has no insurance. The younger one is on his last year on my policy. I just forked over $1050 for an MRI for the oldest. My insurance will cover the one for the youngest at 80%.

Would Aetna cover it if you were going through a Orthopedic doc instead of a chiro?

art914 08-18-2009 05:56 PM

this is why our health care system needs reform

mozadek 08-18-2009 05:58 PM

You pay $200 a month like you're supposed to for medical insurance and the company doesn't want to pay for an MRI, typical. That's the for profit health care industry for you, they make their money by rejecting claims. There wont be any healthcare reform because Obama doesn't have the balls to stand up to blue dog democrats so you know he doesn't have the balls to stand up to Republicans, fucking pussy.

Elli 08-18-2009 05:58 PM

As far as I read it, the MRI is what is needing to be covered, not the chiro visit. A chiro should be at most a hundred or so a visit, right? MRIs are a different matter.

Sorry to hear about your back problems, Aaliyah. Back pain is the worst :( *hugs*

It wasn't. I actually toned down what the insurance and legal industries feel about chiropractors. Did not feel like getting into that discussion about "how I love mine. I have been going to him for years. He knows exactly what to do."

Yeah, no shit. :1orglaugh

Bet you if she was referred by a real doctor this would not be an issue.

If you died tomorrow the medical industry would cry and the insurance industry would rejoice.

:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh I remember when I had to get a bone scan done and some other test , do to my recurring back spasms, pains and what not....

Waste of time and money with all these tests and pain specialist pricks

Spunky 08-18-2009 06:26 PM

That sucks, hope you get well soon, nothing worse than back pain

AmeliaG 08-18-2009 06:31 PM

$200 a month is pretty inexpensive for health insurance, but, even at that rate, if you saved $1,200 a year and just paid for problems when they come up, at the healthcare provider you choose, you often end up in a better situation.

Aaliya I am sorry to hear about that. If you need an amazing (female) massage therapist I know of the best in LA. She has solved several of my problems. She does housecalls. [email protected]

Them paying for my chiro isn't even my concern. I have a customer that pays for all of that anyways. But why even set a $5000 chiro deductable, they should just say "sorry we don't pay for chiro"
my issue is they kept me waiting almost a week on an MRI that I needed ASAP for a condition that is NEW. I thought I paid my insurance company for situations like this.

I also went to a normal doctor for drugs and had both doctors xray me and report to Aetna. So I'm pretty sure it's not the fact that it's coming from a chiro that they rejected it. Their reasoning was "a back injury has to be treated for 8 weeks in a row before we pay for an MRI"
Meanwhile, I might have a slipped or torn disc in my back, and everyday it only hurts more. If I went 8 weeks like this before finding out what is wrong w me, I would prob be worse off than I am now.
I'm paying out of pocket now for my MRI and not holding my breath that Aetna will pay for any of my treatment after I find out what's wrong. Fucking bs.

ya know Amelia you might be right, right now the only thing Aetna is doing is keeping the cost of my birth control down from $48 a month to $15 a month.. but most Americans have health insurance "just in case" something like THIS happens.. :(

Actually, that is precisely the word I was going to use.

Health care is a right. Single payer health care would have treated this problem efficiently by getting the right treatment done the first time around. Getting the right treatment done in a timely fashion could prevent further injury.

The possibility of her being permanently damage is slim but the burden on society if she is disable would be much more. A health care system that is single payer could prevent her from being a burden on society.

WTF is this 8 weeks worth pain bullshit? 8 weeks so we can milk as much money as possible....8 weeks to see if she is really hurt...
No human being should suffer fucking 8 weeks worth of back pain before getting a MRI.

Our health care system is profit driven which is wrong.

I hope your back feels better and its just a pulled muscle that needs some TLC.
