Why was Michael Jackson BROKE!!!!

Seriously, any fan out there can explain why a dude who sells 170 Millions record be broke and owe over 400 Million....

Cash settelments...........

candyflip 06-27-2009 12:09 PM

They said something about him making $20 million per year but spending upwards of $50 million.

It's all gonna come out and should definitely make for some good reading.

He left 3 kids without a father.

What a THRILLER He was.....

It's simple math.

If you make 10 dollars a week and you are spending 30 on credit.

You are going to run up a huge debt.

FelixFlow 06-27-2009 12:14 PM

its not how much you make, its how much you spend :)

DK 06-27-2009 12:16 PM

You'd be amazed how much the law suits and hush money add up.
Having a full blown amusement park and staff of 150 add up as well.

Funny I don't hear any rumours about George Clooney being broke...

baddog 06-27-2009 12:18 PM

He lived in a dream world, and all his fans encouraged it.

The fag lost all with settlements... What is more fucked is the families who accepted being paid instead of pursuing him in the court of law.

I doubt Clooney travels as large as Michael did. When you're taking that huge of an entourage with you everywhere you go and buying out 2 or 3 floors in every hotel you stay at it can get rather drainy on the old bank account.

ALL is FANS... I haven't seen ANYONE with an MJ t-shirt or wispering to his songs in the last 10 years....

Give me a break, that dude's fan base dissapeared and now people are morning cause they live in TMZ land....

What does that have to do with anything?

His house, his staff, his playland, live in doctors and such, they cost real money to keep.

MJ had no real source of income for what at least 10 years.

Kind of simple really.

The fag?

What does anyone's sexual preference have to do with anything? We work in porn, I figure most people should be open minded. What's your problem with gay people?

The rolling stones continue to tour, put out new music, sell thousands items of merch at each venue while on tour.

MJ = sit at home, get plastic surgery, sit at home, pay staff of like 300 people.

Once again apples and oranges.

dyna mo 06-27-2009 12:23 PM

well the beatles catalog is worth $5billion and he owns half

he's made more than 2-3 billion over his lifetime and no real chunk of that was paid out in settlements.

You did not hurt my feelings, and this argument is poor.

That's just like the people who say "I'm not racist, I have a black friend"

Saying I don't hate fags, I have fag friends hardly says much.

Accept what, you are saying why is MJ broke when George Clooney and The Rolling Stones are not.

It's pretty simple as to why

The Rolling Stones continue to do things that make money. George Clooney makes new movies which give him money.

MJ sits at home with his large staff and just spends money.

So you telling me a dude who sells 170 million albums can just sit at home and end up owing 400 million???

I saw some show about him a year or two back. He would go on these shopping sprees where he would just go in some store and buy everything. He simply couldn't control his spending habits.

kane 06-27-2009 12:29 PM

Did you see that documentary that was done on him about five years ago by Martin Brasher? In it he would regularly go out and spend 2-3 million dollars buying stuff that he would never see again. His people said he would do this 4-5 times a month. Like others have said his Neverland ranch cost a truckload of money to build and maintain. He had it fully operational year round even if he wasn't at the house more than a few months a year. Not to count the full zoo he has there as well. Add in all the legal fees he has paid over the years, settlements he has paid out and just living well beyond his means and it adds up fast. Much of his debt is judgments that have been filed against him for things like breech of contract.

His estate lawsuits are going to be insane. He owes upwards of 400 million to different people and he still owns the publishing for most of the Beatles songs which is worth 300+ million. You know his family will be fighting to hold onto those rights.

Mike Tyson got paid 10's of millions per fight, and went broke. He made over 400 million in the ring.

Toni Braxton sold like 17 million albums and then declared bankruptcy

George Clinton went bankrupt, how many albums did he sell?

David Crosby from crosby stills and nash, went bankrupt how many albums did they sell?

Mick Fleetwood, same.

MC Hammer sold millions, owed millions

Suge Knight from Death Row records filed for bankruptcy, how many albums did Death Row sell with Dr Dre, Snoop, Tu Pac... How is this possible?

Don't forget Willie Nelson....

Ted Nugent

Tom Petty

Burt Reynolds

Lawrence Taylor

How is this explained?

beerptrol 06-27-2009 12:34 PM

I'm certainly no MJ fan but dude please. Did you know the first 5 dates of his upcoming 50 concerts sold out in something like 10 minutes?

Also, according to a quick google search, his album Thriller continues to sell several thousand every week and was re-released in 2008 as a 25th anniversary edition and hit #2 on the billboard charts. I wonder how his other albums have been doing?

I agree with you though, with so many large income streams there's not much to justify why they're saying he is broke. Like others have said it comes down to spending vs income. You asked why he's broke, there's your answer... he spent a shitload of money every month (even the months where he wasn't paying out settlement money) to maintain his massive entourage and his lifestyle.

DK 06-27-2009 12:35 PM

If i'm not mistaken, Elvis died broke as well.

eh? you'd do a lot better with threads such as this if you would learn to converse like an adult.

bottomline- mj has made billions over his lifespan of 40 years as an entertainer, from the biggest child star to the biggest selling record of all time.

it's not my fault if you can see that and somehow believe he's paid out all his earning to settlements covering up his pedo lifestyle.

Bingo, how is that possible?

collegeboobies 06-27-2009 12:37 PM

well its easy to spend a few million on carnival rides for your backyard, he had to pay that Debbie Rowe chick who had his kids and never saw them again. He had to pay the kids to accused him of molestation, plus plastic surgery.

It costs a lot to be a white woman with no boyfriend.

Don't be a moron.. it was that interview/show Babra Walters or did with him a year or two back. At least I think it was Babra Walters. They were filming as he did it. He was just walking around the stores with 10 people following him and he would just say. I want this, I want that and this.. ect..ect..

Then all the little peon would shuffle off with the stuff. The guy would spend a 100k in a single store just buying stupid shit.

beside that you asked, so don't be a dick when people answer..

Mr.Right - Banned For Life 06-27-2009 12:37 PM

I don't think anyone is saying it's okay. I think they're just answering your question.
