Cologroup - Past 24 hours
We experienced service interruptions over the past 24 hours, which have been resolved as of yesterday afternoon. I would like to sit here and tell you guys everything that went on, but I am going to make it short, because I need to calm down before I start saying things that I shouldn't.
As many of our customers knew, our Admin Myles was being released this month, which was not going to be an easy task. I spent the last 2 months putting together one of the best support teams this industry has ever seen and immediately Myles would be leaving. He saw it coming and took advantage that I was in Florida this week visiting my daughter. Late last night, Myles attempts to remove servers and networking equipment in our SD facility. He was on the access list because he was still working and got out with 7 key servers and a switch. I get a call from my tech that things are going off line, speak with the data center secuirty to find out if Myles is there and pulling equipment. The security did not know he was stealing equipment because he said he was taking the servers to be fixed. When they found out what was happening, they kicked him out of the facility and the police were notified. They attempted to stop him from leaving the data center and he almost ran over the security guard. I immediately let numerous people know and we began looking for him. He ends up going to my house, and attempting to steal additional equipment. My neighbor who I had called, catches him, but he drives off in his car. He then followed him down the street, called the cops, and Myles was pulled over about 15 miles from where the chase started. We got the servers back, but a switch was missing, and there where other problems. Our techs installed the recovered equipment and service was restored. I knew firing him was not going to be easy, but I did not expect this. Myles is gone and would have been arrested last night, but in order to get the equipment back right away, they had to let him go. They would have taken the equipment as evidence if they arrested him and we were unsure as to when it would be returned to our company. Currently all service has been resolved and we expect no additional problems. I'll be around to reply tomorrow if anyone has any questions in the morning. Customers will be emailed later today with further details. I just need to relax and catch some sleep for a bit. Techs are online if anybody needs anything. I am looking forward to putting the past 24 hours behind us as soon as possible and giving our customers a chance to work with the new support team. |

This situation makes you wonder what type of business continuance plans the various providers have in place.
|
Here is a classic conversation between me and Myles on icq from May 30, 2002:
Me: Myles, what is the story with my server monitor graph? Its been screwed up for 2 weeks now. You gonna fix it sometime? Myles: yep Me: sometime before christmas maybe? Myles: Our christmas comes later |
hahahahaha
|
Wait I found another funny one, I'll post it in a sec
|
Okay, let me be the first to offer you 1 million dollars for the full story and publishing rights.
|
Will we see this in COPS?
|
hey sould rebel, do jason and alex have a Vegas show involving tigers and stuff?
|
Here is an icq conversation between me and Myles on September 6th, 2002:

Myles: It's raw data about your question Me: and what does it mean? Myles: Computers have numbers not meaning Myles: It means nothing less or more than the laws of math Me: thats the most profound thing I've heard all day Myles: cool |

brownbear thats fucking hilarious... that's exactly how he is....
id ask him when the 'program' was going to be ready... he would reply back with jibberish like, 'well, it's not really a program, it's basically numbers in raw form, it just comes to me, i dont see it as 'programming' it's just numbers.... that's it.' 'umm ok myles, the numbers you are putting together, when will they be ready?' 'they arent even really numbers, it's just there.... my fingers just know where to put the keys to make things work.... it's like an art.... you're only shuffling things, they still remain the same' 'uhmmm JASON!! I'm gonna kick MYLES fucking ass, what is his problem?? ..........' |

We should start a thread and just post classic conversations with Myles.
|
I don't even know what to say at this point....at least people can now see who caused every single problem we have had and what I had to deal with.
|
OK, here is one from me, what I dealt with:
[15:12] cologroup: [02:01] CUSTOMER##: What was done to BSD95 last night? [15:13] rossiya: Upgraded the system [15:13] cologroup: they are fuckin pissed off [15:14] cologroup: they said never to fuck with there machines without permission [15:15] rossiya: I wasn't 'fucking with machines ' to use your venacular [15:16] rossiya: Anyway it that's the case it should have been taped on the machine [15:17] rossiya: Otherwise it will get serviced whether they like it or not |

I got this shit every day and could not deal with it anymore. The guy is crazy and caused major problems numerous times. I look at this and wich I had got rid of him sooner.

You should really auction the movie rights for that story. Its got all the good stuff any hollywood movie is looking for: tension, backstabbing, revenge, a fugitive on the run, vigilantes, etc... |
not to make light of the situation or anything, but I find it quite amusing that a crazy guy named myles went on a rampage stealing servers...Fucking crazy bastard. LoL

#2 He was at the DC and someone slipped up and said something. #3 I tried 2 months ago and fired him, and he had so many BS setups in the system that when he left, we could not fix all the fuckups, so I let him back. I went and built a new support team after my failed attempt to fire him. I hired 4 new administrators and a CTO. I had a planned trip to see my daughter in Florida (who I see once every 2 months) , so I said when I get back, well go ahead with our plans. I never expected this. |
They already made a movie and a comic strip about him. Serious.
Office Space - Milton |
Milton was abused for a long time and then fired without cause by an evil corporation.
Just FYI. Cheers, Backov |

At least Myles didn't burn down the building. |

now i suspect that he was the one who placed those cap limits on my server which made me not to like colo :( ... oh well ... those were the days i still hosted with cologroup ... but in fairness ... jason, andre and the other tech guys were good to me. |
