raven1083 01-10-2009 11:18 PM

i like beatles, they are so good!

Matyko 01-10-2009 11:29 PM

Both my girlfriend and I are huge Beatles fans. We listen Beatles/Lennon/McCartney on a daily basis. Incredible talents and wonderful songs. And I am not talking about ticket to ride" and such famous/overplayed/crappy songs but like most of the tracks of Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band or Abbey Road.

Obviously our daughter is raised listening to this kind of music instead of turning on MTV/Viva shit... :)

mmcfadden 01-10-2009 11:40 PM

there's alot better music out there... :two cents

sure there is
there always is better to others in a large general arena like music
just your comment is missing some examples since better is subjective and with no baselines comparison your comment falls short

The Oasis guys have some decent melodies but your statement should be reversed.

They have no tunes that touch even the tip of the Beatles catalogue:

Love the Beatles! Here comes the sun, yesterday, all are fucking classics. Went to the Bootleg Beatles a few months back which was awesome. If they are ever playing nearby I suggest you go! Just waiting for Baddog to post in this topic with his pics :)

Klen 01-11-2009 04:28 AM

Beatles is still most popular band ever.

Blingbaby 01-11-2009 04:42 AM

I grew up with and will always love The Beatles. Have you seen Across The Universe? I never thought anyone could do Beatles covers, let alone make an entire musical movie with Beatles songs but this movie rocks, you might really like it.

Oasis are one of the best bands of all time but no match for the Beatles i must admit.

But you Americans need your heads checking, Oasis are one of the greatest bands of the 90's and infact of all time.

CaptainHowdy 01-11-2009 08:00 AM

I know they are a great influence an blah but I just don't like them...

First of all Oasis is garbage compared to the beatles who were inventors of rock and roll as well as many other types of music. Their music still works in these ages and Oasis is not nearly as well known even today. Beatles music will never die as Oasis will never live.

Totally false.

Oasis are known all around the world (Apart from the USA) as one of the biggest and best rock and roll bands of all time.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Beatles

The Beatles made their first live American television appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show on 9 February 1964. Approximately 74 million viewers ? about half of the American population ? watched the group perform on the show.

About 2/3 of that number thinks that you are talking about water in the desert when you mention oasis. :2 cents:

But that's America.

Blazed 01-11-2009 11:20 AM

The beatles were lucky to be born before Oasis if it had been the other way around Oasis would be the band everyone considers the beatles to have been.

Although some people like me can see that Oasis are better than the beatles ever were anyway. The problem is alot of you older guys were on shrooms everyday dancing around fields listenting to the beatles, you got caught up in the moment and now when you look back on the "good old days" it makes yout hink the beatles were better than they actually were.

If you just compare song for song without the hippy bias Oasis are better.

Also heres more proof

Beatles - Imagine 18million views

Oasis - Wonderwall 22million views

The beatles video was added a year earlier and still has 4m less views, thats because only old hippies give a damn about the beatles and if the music was half as great as you make out young people today would like them also, but the clearl;y isnt the case which is why oasis videos get more views on youtube.

Not sure were you get that, while Oasis IS a good group, I can think of others that are much better.

And my contribution to the last Beatles discussion when Blazed jumped in with his insane fanboy adoration of Oasis.

Oasis have sold over 50 million records worldwide and have had eight UK number-one singles.

The Beatles have sold more albums in the United States than any other band... sold over one billion records worldwide... the Beatles charted twenty #1 singles in the States ? three more than runner-up Elvis Presley - and seventeen in the UK.

I think that about sums it up... :thumbsup

Those stats on Oasis are current figures so that means it has taken them 17 years to sell those measly 50 million records. Lets be fair and say the sell 50 million a year for the remaining 8 years they still won't come close to selling the same number of records. Hell, they wouldn't even if you tripled that number per year over the remaining 8 years.

Even if those Beatles stats ARE current there is no way, just by the proven numbers alone of Oasis for them to catch up.

No matter what Oasis does or how much longer that continue to make music, they will never reach the heights The Beatles have acheived, who has sold far more records AFTER their demise than OASIS has to date.

Imagine came out in 1971; it's almost 40 years old. Wonderwall is ~15 years old. They should have more views if views means they're better. Lil Wayne has 25 million views so it's not a good metric to use.

I wasn't always a Beatles fan. Their music wasn't hard enough. Not enough guitar work. It was status quo music for 'old' people. But I've come to appreciate how difficult it is to craft everlasting melodies and good songs, especially of the scope of the Beatles. Liking or disliking their music is a matter of taste but there is no doubting their influence/imprint in music.

Is this just a Beatles versus Oasis thing? In your opinion, is Oasis better than the Rolling Stones, The Who, Zepplin? I couldn't tell you who is the better of the latter three bands, but they were all great. I don't put Oasis in the same league.

Grew up listening to them, still like them after all these years

reebix 01-11-2009 02:59 PM

Imagine is not a Beatles song; it's the title song from Lennon's second album after the Beatles broke up. :error (The first was the Plastic Ono Band which... ugh probably doesn't count :1orglaugh)

The music industry of that era doesn't exist anymore so any comparisons to "current" artists, which Oasis certainly wouldn't be considered by anyone in the industry or its key demographic to be, are useless. :)
