Not sure if I already posted this when I saw it, but I was just thinking about this earlier today.

There is a TV show called Principals Office or some shit on TruTV. The show follows principals of different schools all over the nation to show us discipline problems and what dumb shit kids do in High School.

Well, in Texas the policy is if you get into enough trouble to warrant saturday detention you have a choice. You can take three smacks with a paddle, or do a day of saturday detention.

Some of the kids choose the paddle.

Now then, the principal is a big guy. He's from Texas, and looks every bit of 300+lbs. The girl on the show that chose the paddle looked like an average high school girl, she looked maybe 16 -17 now then... is it MORAL for a 55 year old man to be spanking a 16 yr old girl on gov't property? I know it's meant as corporal punishment, but doesn't that seem like if they were off school grounds and not related as they clearly are not, wouldn't that be illegal seeing as how she's under age?

Some of the girls at 17 are very well developed. At some point having a 17yr old girl with a fully formed body bent over in your closed office while you're spanking her HAS to conjure sexual feelings. I'm not saying he doesn't have self control. I'm saying that the situation is very inappropriate.

Even if the girl were 18 and legally an adult, and say she got held back a year in school, and she ended up in the office, bent over and he's standing over her paddling her. I still don't think that's right even though she's 18.

I have watched that show a few times. He does let the students pick the option of punishment they want. If they choose the paddle he said vey clearly that he needs to call and talk to their parents. So if they want to get paddled and their parents approve it, then I do not see the problem.

I have seen those episodes and you can't tell if there is another person in the room or not. They shut the door and then you hear the paddle. It is over with pretty quick and then the kid comes walking out. There is also a line of students outside the door waiting to get paddled next. Hell more kids need to get their ass paddled. A lot of kids have no respect and are punks. You try being a principal and having to put up with them 5 days a week. It is usally the same kids they show getting in trouble on that show.

I grew up in Texas, licks were pretty much standard for anyone in athletics, fights if it wasn't a repeat issue, and to burn detention days.

It doesn't work, the few that take the licks don't care. Anyone that gets in repeat trouble already doesn't give a shit. So licks are an easy out.

The Texas School ie: Prison System is at the bottom of the list in the Country for many reasons.

Not everyone sees spanking as sexual. Just like they don't see a school teacher/student interaction as sexual, a baby sitter/father as sexual, a son/best friend's mother as sexual, a doctor/patient as sexual, etc.

If it becomes sexual you damn well know the kid is going to complain, get the guy fired and sue the school system for millions. I DO think they should have someone in the room - more so the kid doesn't make crap up.

I never had corporal punishment. I fucked up in school, but mine was so bad they just kicked me out of the entire school system.

I wasn't aware of the permission slip stuff. Why a 17 year old would even bring back a permission slip to school is beyond me.

the parents havea login to the school website where they get permission slips n shit that they can agree too and stuff but in my city they send it home with the kid and the parents mail it back into the school so the kid cant change it

Those numbers are from 20 years of drilling in standardized testing memorization rather than actually learning. It's still bottom of the list for good schools. And a lot more than rankings make a school system bad. The Schools in Texas straight up do not match up to the Schools in the North East, in every way other than maybe sports, which Texas Schools are great at!

2. NASA. This would go away. NASA is funded by the US Government. When you secede from the union they will pull NASA out of there. They aren't going to give all the NASA billions to you, they will just move it elsewhere.
3. Port. Again, it is big, but again, the US would just switch to other ports. Why pay you to import and export a bunch of freight when we can do it for free.
4. Armed populace. Okay. Nobody is going to invade you and if they do, Joe Bob and his shotgun can't shoot a fighter plane.
5. Massively diverse and strong economy. Again, how much of that is based on help/involvement from the US. If you pull away from the union will the US and its might purchasing power looking happily on you? Probably not. It will be a lot harder for that economy to thrive when you are on your own.

I love when people think their state could just pull away and all would be great. It really isn't that simple.

To me the problem is that the kids get to choose. You do the crime, you do the time. There should be no choice. A lot of kids would rather get paddled a couple of times than give up a Saturday in detention. In a few minutes the pain is gone and all is back to normal.

There should be no choice. There should be a set punishment and if you choose to do something that gets you in trouble, you have to serve out that punishment.
