Any country without a solid government, military, and police force (and infrastructure in place to keep it all honest, or at least somewhat honest) will quickly fall into kaos with gangs of assholes going around doing whatever the hell they feel like doing.

Too bad some caring civilized country doesn't go in there and restore those people a government and some order and protection. A country like the US for instance. You can't go into Somalia to help when they are having a civil war, the different factions just play you one against the other in their struggle for power. Probably all you can really do is wait for them to sort it out amongst themselves, then see if there's anything that can be done.

I spent 6 month over in that fucking shit hole. We went there on a humanitarian mission to provide food, medical supplies, security for red cross workers, and some assistance to help them establish a working government.

Intead of thanks, we got shot at every day. Almost daily mortar attacks on our camps. And then they shot down 2 of our helicopters. Thats when they said ok we arent playing with these bastards anymore, we went in after our guys and massacred about a thousand somalis that night. We got most of our guys out, they had one pilot captured. We lined up our tanks on the edge of thier city and said hand him over or we will level everything. They handed him over, and we left shortly after that to let them fend for themselves.

I guess the rest of the world was watching cartoons or something.
