yeah this is a real pain. if it isn't supported anymore and wasn't encoded i may have been able to figure out what the problem is with it. i'm sure i remember edgeprod posting at one time that they had sold over 10,000 copies. at $300/script that's $3million, with that revenue they could have surely hired a programmer part time and continued to support it/improve it and continue selling it.

Mr Pheer 10-25-2008 02:52 PM

It pisses me off that I paid for it, its no longer supported and barely works, and its encoded so I cant make changes to it and neither can anyone else.

But hey if Chio and his coder made 3 fucking million, why should they care.

fris 10-25-2008 06:26 PM

for anyone that's got the problem of missing angle brackets in the html when posting with autoblogger. the problem seems to be related to a bug in libxml2-2.7.2. so it means downgrading to an earlier version to get it working again. if you haven't upgraded libxml2 on your server yet, don't!

Thank you for the tip! I'll try that.

The sales of Autoblogger Pro do not benefit me in any tangible way, nor am I involved with the project. I wish I could help you, but I poured a lot of time into the project with nothing to show for it other than a ton of investment and no return. No drama, just how it is. I've laid low following the events of its implosion to avoid continuing to be slammed with B.S. stories and half-truths from parties who weren't directly involved and don't really know the story.

I'm sorry if you're experiencing problems with it. I did my best to maintain it -- and to answer support questions for free during the time I thought I'd be paid for my work -- but unfortunately I decided not to continue to NOT be paid AND to help out of my own pocket. I did that for a year.

So has Chio bailed out and disappeared on everything he's tried selling us on here?

I hope that isn't the case. I don't know the back-story on what you're referring to, if it's the Bliggo (which launched but didn't seem to get traction I guess), Feed Spinners (which as far as I know didn't launch), or Verified Charge (which I thought launched successfully?) projects, or something new he's come up with.

I enjoyed talking with Chio on an almost daily basis during the year I worked on Autoblogger Pro and related projects. I wrote a lot of code for him and respected him highly as a friend and mentor.

Although our business dealings didn't end satisfactorily for me, that was my fault and I still miss his friendship.

He hasn't replied to my e-mails for some time now.

Is there a need for another product along the lines of Autoblogger Pro? I thought there were several "copy cat" products that filled the void, but I could be wrong ... I didn't stay on top of it. I was concentrating on evolving Feed Pushers following its successful launch.

Is is still working for me for what I use it for but I did refer quite a few people to it which bothers me if it's not being supported anymore. It isn't cheap like some $25 script or something.

I wasn't trying to say anything bad about Chio. I don't know what's going on with him. I was just thinking of another thread I read about Verified Charge and then this.

bettersex 12-09-2008 01:19 PM

when i couldn't get anymore support or any email satall.. i went to feedwordpress and only a small amount of blogs

Yeah, gotta keep an eye on what you refer people to. I haven't heard from Chio in about 2.5 months.

thanks for the reply, and that's understandable.

for anyone who had problems with it stripping angle brackets < > from posts and messing up the html formatting you need to downgrade libxml2 or rebuild php with libexpat and install expat-devel.

Ok, good deal. I don't have any ill-will toward Chio, I just wish we could have salvaged our friendship when the business end fell apart. I felt like I took the bullet for him, but it was deserved anyway, so I guess I shouldn't bitch about it. I could pick up the phone tomorrow and be happy to talk to him, but it's his choice in the end.

I thought Chio seemed very likable too. But he charged me for a Bliggo ad, never ran it, said he'd refund it and still run it to make up for the hassle, never ran it, never refunded it.

My ABP stopped working entirely. Both I and my host have tried to get in touch with him to find out what to do, to no avail.

My support login no longer works. :(

cykoe6 12-12-2008 06:02 AM

I could live with the money I lost on the script but I put an awful lot of work into getting the network set up which I now must transfer to another script. That is that part that pisses me off the most.

HorseShit 12-12-2008 06:20 AM

vaporware? probably, I never bought into ABP, it's pretty pointless.

Ouch. I hate to hear stories like this. If things hadn't ended so badly with Autoblogger, I would have loved to continue to support the users ... I don't mean to sound like a jackass, but it took HOURS of my day, and I did it for free. I can't stress this enough: I make NOTHING on the sale of Autoblogger Pro ... I wrote it, but I don't see a red CENT. :(

I hate that you had that experience with Bliggo. It's probably somehow my fault that the project never got off the ground ... who knows.

At a certain point, of course you can't keep working for free.

I just totally don't get how someone could seem as nice as Chio and then leave everyone high and dry. Do you have any idea where he went and when/if he is coming back? I got the impression that ABP made enough dough that just bailing seems bizarre.

I don't even really understand how a previously working script could suddenly get as messed up as ABP and I really don't understand why all the support logins to get proper downloads and all would be disabled. Wouldn't someone have to actively do something to break previously working scripts?

My $100 Bliggo ad never ran either?

Everything Chio touched turned to shit even if he made the best chops?

I wouldn't go near anything he was associated with again - he's 0 for 3 !

I don't understand why Chio would leave anyone high and dry either. It didn't really seem like his way of operating. On a personal level, I've always respected the way he handled people. On a business level, obviously, I don't have such warm fuzzies, but that's water under the bridge for me.

I can't really speak to what happened with the code. I know that another coder "took over" when Chio and I parted ways, but I didn't give my permission for that to happen, so I'm not entirely sure how it all wend down. I still have the source code to the product, but if I put out another script like it, I'd probably start over entirely.

That's a pretty harsh assessment, spunk! What projects were 0-3? ABP, Bliggo, and Verified Charge? I thought Verified Charge was doing its thing and all that? Did that go belly up? The only fishy part about it I ever saw was the "Contact" page with all of the "offices" listed .. kind of cracked me up. Other than that, I thought it was up and running .. did they go under or something?

Porn Producer 01-29-2009 04:11 PM

yeah, Chio basically fucked everyone over with AutoBlogger.

here's the lesson: don't jump head over feet into overhyped shit.

Respectfully, much like your avatar, you have no idea what you're talking about. Although I didn't get paid, I saw the sales stats every day. We licensed over 10,000 domains -- each license was able to be put on a number of domains, so the sales of "licenses" were much less than 10,000, but dollar-wise, it was six figures, and no joke at all. He was selling multiple copies per day after I re-coded it.

The money disappeared into the same place that the Verified Charge money seems to have been swallowed up into.

Again, I supported this software for a LONG TIME without being paid. I hate that you guys "got screwed" on it, support-wise, but that is 100% because Chio DECIDED not to support the software, DECIDED to let it decline, and DECIDED to fuck over the only guy who was helping out -- the same guy who CODED the fucking thing and didn't get paid for it.

I have the source code, I just wouldn't feel comfortable re-monetizing it to "restart" the product.
