Cavecreek/CCBill deal to buy Alphared falls through

http://avn.com/internet/articles/32761.html

well, i for one am very happy with this. Alphared has been hosting some bad shit and i got worried when i saw ccbill getting in bed with them.

apparently, they tried to save the AP clients, but when they saw what they were dealing with, they decided to leave it alone.

smart move

webair 10-09-2008 02:47 PM

Rough times for alpha red clients ahead.

this deal was doomed from the get go!

XSV 10-09-2008 02:51 PM

Hate to say it, but doesn't surprise me.
Hopefully people there have themselves covered after the warnings last week.

For some reason, this doesn?t surprise me, Cavecreek/ccbill and alphared mix like oil and water.

Anybody that deals with alphared is dealing with a company where 10 DMCA notices stand between them losing 75% of their revenue.

CCBill has too much to lose to acquire a business like that, they are too honest ;) and leaving up hosting clients after getting repeated DMCAs will f*ck them on the billing side.

why do you say that? there was a lot of vague comments but nothing specific? everyone was mum on what they knew

dubsix 10-09-2008 03:07 PM

I'm sure they took one look at AlphaRed's books and high-tailed it out of there. We all knew this wasn't going to play out.

they were probably one of the few companies that could make it happen, if the fundamentals were there, but alas

The fundamentals were never there, they operated on a fundementally flawed business plan. The days of hypergrowth and thin margains should have died with the .COM collapse in the late 90s/early 2k. How this stupid idea is still around amazes me.

not if their servers go offline. that appears to be whats happening now. looks like the datacenter is coming offline carrier by carrier to me.

people who waited this long might be fucked in the ass.

Phil 10-09-2008 03:20 PM

isn't it why feds are after those guys? for hosting spam, virus aka anti-virus crap?

well, if it was a revenue issue, why did it take so long? they were in biz for a long time. upstreams stop giving you bandwidth if you dont pay? tried to get insight, doesnt make sense to me, not tryimng top be pushy :)

so was it the MS lawsuit or the biz model, the catalyst here seemed to to be the MS lawsuit

wheres it happening airek? i got my shit off and fast the day mayhem let loose thanks to pacific rack (great job and support btw) i do have a couple domians still there and they are loading

lazzlo 10-09-2008 05:13 PM

also, if it does shut down, one reason might be the techs running it arent getting paid and have'nt been, and they might just say fuck it.

AdultEUhost 10-09-2008 05:14 PM

I would suggest all Alphared customers to keep a close eye on the situation and think about if they would want (and can afford) to take the risk of waiting what happens with the (still possible) option of seeing your server going offline.

I think the fact that Alphared doesn't bring any update about the situation and the future of its hosting customers is a bad thing and unnecessary as it will make the situation only worse.

As far as I can see servers are still online as we just initiated another two transfers but I don't think this will last long, I wouldn't be surprised if everything went down for the weekend.

Iron Fist 10-09-2008 05:54 PM
