I discovered a missile silo in my backyard - seriously.
This morning I was reading the news about that hijacked ship which lead me to Wikipedia looking up Russian warships, then US warships, then missile silos in Arizona, which lead me to missile silos in California. Imagine my surprise when I saw my home town of Lincoln, California, on that list.
Beale AFB is not too far from here, and in the 1960s they had three Titan missile launch sites. Some quick research showed me that the launch site in my hometown was within walking distance of my house. According to Google maps, this is what it looks like from the air.... http://www.rochardsbunnyranch.com/rock/silo5.jpg So, I went! Not much to see really..... http://www.rochardsbunnyranch.com/rock/silo1.jpg http://www.rochardsbunnyranch.com/rock/silo2.jpg http://www.rochardsbunnyranch.com/rock/silo3.jpg http://www.rochardsbunnyranch.com/rock/silo4.jpg Now... If I can just figure a way in! |
That's some cool shit. Get a way in ASAP, you never know...
|
Having grown up in Clyde, Ca which is between Concord, Ca and Pittsburg, Ca. In essence a small town surrounded on all sides by the Concord Naval Weapons Station. Those silo's are a very common site. Though when I was growing up there "was no missles there" even though we would see them being transported on the trains as well as having tons of those silo's everywhere in the hills.

Here's the site under construction in late 1950s / early 1960s.
http://www.rochardsbunnyranch.com/rock/silo7.jpg Compare it to the google mape above and tell me where the entrance is.... |
pretty fucking cool. bring a camera and some lights in there once you find an entrance.
|
you need to have QuantumX come visit he will find a way in for sure
|
I discovered a missile silo in my pants

You can easily slip into these places - and you wouldn't be the first to - but pay attention for the following gotchyas
1 - Some of the silos have buried motion detectors, feds will show. 2 - Most are semi / somewhat flooded 3 - Most are rusted / somewhat rusted 4 - Combinations of the above can lead to acute rusty pipe through leg syndrome :D That aside, go nuts, take photos :D |
pretty fuckin cool.
They sell those things once in a while. And I've heard most of the abandoned ones are filled with water now. If you look around you can find pics of water filled silos. |
BTW, for an idea of the scale of the missle projects, check out

There in a bunker/silo combination in the Hollywood Hills just South of Mullholand Drive that was bought many years ago by some guy who converted it into a house. Last I heard, Julian Lennon (John's son) owned it. |

I didn't realize you lived in Lincoln, Rochard. I thought you lived in AZ somewhere.

Here is what I did with photoshop.
I want to go there, and DIG! http://i33.tinypic.com/vnnmte.jpg http://i38.tinypic.com/29fukx4.jpg Using the ratio of angles, here is what I think the 3 silos map to: http://i33.tinypic.com/vnnmte.jpg Using perspective to match them up, I think this is about the angle that the original photo was taken: http://i38.tinypic.com/29fukx4.jpg ImageShack.us sucks donkey balls. |

If there's a reflector somewhere parallel to the visible face of that post, you'd best not walk between. |
Incidentally, if you have a nightvision scope or low quality digital video camera, there's a chance it'll pick up the emitter wavelength allowing visual determination. You won't see the beam, however one of the rectangles will probably be glowing.

cool now take pictures and send those to Russians :)
