How do you guys feel about the US losing the Olympics to China??

Is this being talked over there in the US?

What's the repercussion of losing the #1 place to China among americans?

baddog 08-25-2008 10:37 AM

I did not even know the Olympics were ours to lose, or that they now belonged to China.

What are you talking about?

You guys were always the #1 place on the rank, and for the first time China had way over gold medal than the US, winning the Olympics for the first time.

That's what I was referring to.

klaze 08-25-2008 10:40 AM

China is #1 this year? wow big surprise... NOT!

Fuck China.

CaptainHowdy 08-25-2008 10:42 AM

That has "conspiracy" written all over it...

MarcWomack 08-25-2008 10:43 AM

There's a few of us out there who look at the Olympics as a global event and use it as an opportunity to put away our nationalistic viewpoints and concentrate on a global perspective.

There are also a few of us out there who are just fucking happy it's over so we don't have to hear any more about China on CNN, Discovery Channel, fucking Animal Planet, BBC, yadi, yadi, yadi.

Zoose 08-25-2008 10:44 AM

They're not talking about it at all, probably because they ( American media ) all twisted the stats to where we didn't lose.. instead of the most golds being the stat used to determine who 'won' the olympics, everyone in the US is using total medal count. Personally though, I couldn't care less - China has 5 times as many people as us and they manufacture their athletes from the time they're 3 years old.

Triple10Terry 08-25-2008 10:44 AM

A pic or two might help this thread out:winkwink:

We had more 10 more medals than them, but since they got more gold than us we are probably going to attack Brazil and Canada.

You really think anyone here gives a flying fuck how many gold medals we got or that we are losing sleep over it?

V_RocKs 08-25-2008 10:45 AM

I think Americans are more obese than ever... Not a big surprise.

directfiesta 08-25-2008 10:45 AM

USA didn't lose .. or win ...

It is a real sport competition to showcase the accomplishments of athletes from everywhere in the world ....

Get into the Olympics spirit .... :2 cents:

By the way some people are answering to this thread like it was an attack, and by the way you guys have manufactured the stats so that it doesn't look like you guys lost, yes I do think some people are losing sleep.

:2 cents:

polish_aristocrat 08-25-2008 10:50 AM

Do you think in 16 years China will be more powerful than the United States ?

Interesting take on the US from a foreign perspective - I've always looked at the events, not at medal totals - with a population of 1.3 billion one might expect the Chinese medal count to be about 100%...

Is anyone in Brazil talking about the volleyball loss to the US? I am sure Brazil was disappointed not to win gold, but does that make the country of Brazil a loser?

What's really amazing is the number of world records set at this Olympics...

Babaganoosh 08-25-2008 10:54 AM

I'm still in shock that tranza can type more than 3 words in a post.

WOW!

I mean seriously...fucking WOW. I had no idea.

Yes, everybody is very upset about that over here. It's been all over the news.

No wonder this little bitch is badmouthing the US. He's upset that even Canada got more medals than Brazil. :1orglaugh

That would give me an inferiority complex too.

That says it all.

uno 08-25-2008 11:03 AM

There have always been 2 ways of looking at it from what I can remember. # of gold AND # of total medals.

I'm more of the mindframe that # of gold is the "winner", but I don't really care. Both ways seem like valid ways of looking at it.

Yeah, but they are.

US huge defict is pretty much backed mainly by Chinese funds. If they decided to collect these loans, the US would be bankrupt.

Then again they would never do that, since they need your market to sell all their crap goods.

Brazil invested just a little US$100 million in 4 years on sports.

That's pretty much what the US invests in a week.

It's really amazing that brazilian athletes can even get a few medals.

Lol, you're kidding, right?

It's ALWAYS been about the amount of gold medals. Not "total" medal.

Yep ...... China is growing faster than most other countries (India is not far behind in % growth terms) but China is still a 4 trillion GDP at most. USA is 13 trillion GDP. It could take China 20 years to overtake.

Maybe so but then shouldn't you consider that the US only has about 300 million people compared to China's 1.33 BILLION? That's over a billion more people than the US has. Honestly it's amazing that the US got as many medals as we did considering the pool of athletes China had to choose from.

That's the beauty about the Olympics. If you divided the amount of gold medals by the country population, countries like Australia would win, and the US would have a hard time getting in the top 10 because of tiny countries with a single gold medal.

If you divide the medals by the population, you'd ALWAYS lose. But this time you guys really lost by a metrics that YOU created. And now, you guys are trying to change the metric!

LOL!

:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

SomeCreep 08-25-2008 11:17 AM

I discredit all of China's golds in women's gymnastics. So basically, they won golds in diving, mens gymnastics, and table tennis. For a country with the biggest population in the world, I thought they'd win more.

Nice to see you turned off your post bot btw. It was getting incredibly annoying.

You were just comparing the amount of money your little stinkhole country invested in sports to the number of medals won. Who is inventing "metrics" now?

I don't care if we won any metals or any golds, or even went. Not because it's in China, but because it's just another game, like the kids playing football in the street yesterday. It doesn't make a single difference about anything other than to the people doing it, which is good thing for them and them alone.

Overall people care about every sport way to damn much. People going nuts, as if life ends to just watch the stupid sport and if it doesn't go as planed the day is ruined.

That is called being legally insane. You people are crazy! :)
