New Metallica song - sounds like And Justice For All

Not bad, seems they tried a bit hard on parts of the song but the way the song sounds with drums and instrumentals reminds me a lot of And Justice for all

They played it on the radio here and it looks like it was updated on their Myspace page today as well - http://www.myspace.com/metallica

song title - The Day that Never Comes

Starts a little slow but rocks out later. Much better than the previous shitty albums thats for fucking sure!

Imortyl Pussycat 08-21-2008 11:57 AM

agreed on the instrumentals, i liked it, but the lyrics and vocals themselves on this one were a letdown for me.

Agent 488 08-21-2008 11:58 AM

actually sounds like they ripped echo beach:

https://youtube.com/watch?v=CyzsBqk8u1w

at least they are ripping other bands now instead of themselves - like that song they just did that sounds exactly like unforgiven.

Agent 488 08-21-2008 12:01 PM

pretty lackluster - the mid-tempo shit they been doing since the black album suck ass.

Well dude you know people get older and music taste change with age. They can't keep head banging till they're in their 50's+:winkwink:

Andy CHOOPA 08-21-2008 12:06 PM

His vocals are boffed, but it picks up later in the song.

atom 08-21-2008 12:09 PM

overall i really wasnt expecting much but thought it would be a bit better since Rick Ruben was doing it. The tempo changes seem forced and not smooth like thier old stuff. With all the booze James has drank i'm surprised he hasnt completly fried the vocal cords.

oh well, its only one song out of 11. crossing fingers for the rest of the album...

WebairGerard 08-21-2008 12:13 PM

much better than their last album. sees much closer to their original sound without trying to sound like they are a bunch of 20 yr olds still.

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 08-21-2008 12:14 PM

They just do not know Metal anymore.

I can play Harvester of Sorrow note for note even the solo and Call of Ktulu all the way through parts of One that interested me and a number of thier other songs that are easier.
It';s like the guitar work that was Hammet, Hetfield was repossossed, the playing is totally different now. Worlds different in everything that formerly was Metallica.

Totally different vibe of music they are making for many albums now. It's the Metallica Status Quo now. They claim to make Metal music and keep selling the idea album after album yet fail in producing even 1 good metal song.

I am a huge on old school Metallica there was something there.
They used alternating patterns, and alot of quick clean changes in timing all kinds of shit I could go on all day about there old stuff who couldnt? It was fucking awesome in every way.

This newer stuff just misses the point of what was formerly Metallica. They may as well just changed thier name. The music is as though it is created by completely different people for the past 3 albums.

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 08-21-2008 12:19 PM

PS: That song sounds nothing like Justice For All, The very beginning of that song it is appearent they dug up the old tone setting's and guitar for the intro of One.

Justice For All Is a phoenominal song unto itself that piece of shit you hear on that site is nothing like.

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 08-21-2008 12:24 PM

Dimebag Darrel kept his metal feel all the way through his carreer, Zakk Wylde got heavier and more killer with his metal riff's, John5 is kicking total ass with metal as well along with Kerry King who keeps knocking out mind numbing licks within seconds of each other yet the Supposed Master's of Metal can not even make 1 fucking metal song anymore.
What the fuck is this world comming to?

Agent 488 08-21-2008 12:24 PM

yeah the fast part sounds like some kids jamming in their garage.

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 08-21-2008 12:28 PM

Just hearing that POS shit song has pissed me off.
Thanks for ruining my day.

I was really expecting something from Metallica this time.

I mean what the god damn fuck! Just drop the fucking axe's to Down tune D or even fucking B in alternate tunings and crunch the god damn guitar! What the fuck man!

Metal is not even that hard to make and what I am hearing is not fucking even Rock, I have no idea what this shit is but it aint good.

i was holding out hope as well but somehow knew disappointment was on the horizon. i'm afraid to hear the rest of the new release now, i don't want to hate it, i really don't

evildick 08-21-2008 01:13 PM

don't like it.:(

James need to fire all his vocal coaches and just go back to screaming like the good old days.

edit: gets better towards the end

bbm 08-21-2008 01:31 PM

Argh, I love their songs

MJ_AVN 08-21-2008 01:37 PM

It had better! They've been releasing crap since the black album.
And ever since the Napster thing, listening to Lars in an interview makes me want to stick a knife in my ears.

I don't understand how you the guys who made so many melodic riffs in the 80's can't tell that they suck now, I guess all the napster downloads have cut into thier production budget.

Malicious Biz 08-21-2008 02:13 PM

Metallica has turned 'jumping the shark' into a career move,

They need to just go away.. it's way to late to fade away gracefully and with a little shred of dignity intact... Just go away, asshats.

And about the song, it sounds like and justice for all.. if and justice for all was gang raped by clay aiken and richard simmons with no lube then stuffed full of geritol and forced to wear Depends adult diapers.

Turboface 08-21-2008 02:16 PM

(\/)etallica is back!

I am excited knowing that they are coming out with a new album and of course the tour for it. I'll go just to hear them play their older songs from back when they were cool. That one new song 'The Day That Never Comes' sounds like it's all building up but even when they 'rock out' it's not all that impressive. It doesn't sound anything like And Justice For All (at all), IMO. Their other new single, Cyanide at least has a backbone and has a little bit of that magic that some of their other older material had.

Unfortunately, from looking at their tour dates, they are not even coming near where I am here in NC. I'm going to have to plan a trip to visit the folks that coincides with one of the dates up in Philly/Jersey.

2012 08-21-2008 03:25 PM

doesn't sound like it at all.

OG LennyT 08-21-2008 03:35 PM

Hard Attack's been playing Cyanide since Oz Fest and it sounds pretty good live

beta-tester 08-21-2008 03:45 PM

Well IMO, it's way better than the songs on St. Anger album! I certainly expect much more from Metallica on this one! Just curious how's gonna Unforgiven III look like :) All in all, I can't wait for the album to get out.

Beaver Bob 08-21-2008 03:51 PM

I guess its better than St. Anger. But I'm disappointed.

beta-tester 08-21-2008 03:58 PM

Oh, and what do you think about Cyanide? Not that bad :)

MaDalton 08-21-2008 04:06 PM

better than st. anger - not as good as the black album.

i'm still surprised how long they survived with the lousiest solo guitar player ever and Hetfields more than mediocre vocals

actually I think the weakest link in Metallica these days is Lars and his drumming. I don't know what the hell happened to him.

minddust 08-21-2008 04:20 PM

Metallica died in the mid 90s

Manowar 08-21-2008 04:26 PM

I'm a fan of cyanide so far

DatingGameExpert 08-21-2008 04:27 PM

They have run out of ideas and are trying to recapture their dying fan market. Move along.

truthless 08-21-2008 04:54 PM

If you want some fresh shred listen to Protest the Hero. Just remember to click the song that isn't the shit remix. I don't know why they have that on there.

CheeseHead Nacho Burger 08-21-2008 07:16 PM

I like it. Just bought it on iTunes. Thanks for the heads up.

tony286 08-21-2008 07:20 PM

dont like it, james gave up drinking and the muse went bye bye.

tony286 08-21-2008 07:22 PM

Also I think its hard to write angry pissed off music when youre rich. You become domesticated.

It's sad but true.

Rexk 08-21-2008 08:18 PM

Nothing beats them from back in 1991 or so..hopefully there are some rockers on this album

CyR 08-21-2008 08:23 PM

ok a few years back I was total anti-Metallica, and to this day I still fairly am (but more for everything released Load onwards), but I decided to give this song a fair go... I had to turn it off about 2 minutes in. I swear I was listening to Weird Al >_<

SomeCreep 08-21-2008 08:34 PM

That song isn't that great. It's sort of like a really bad version of "One." Something happened to James Hetfield. He sings differently now than he did on the black album or any previous albums. Metallica is just not as "heavy metal" as they used to be.

I will admit that this new song "The day that never comes" is better than all the other crap they've done on their post "black" albums. Now they sort of sound like an inexperienced garage band that has been playing together for like 2 years.

Even to this day, I still can't believe that a band like "Metallica," that was so good, turned so bad.

Metallica should have stuck to their guns like Slayer did...then they wouldn't keep having to prove that they "have it"

Hetfield's voice sucks now

Shit...this song is a rip-off of "simple man" by Skynard!

2 thumbs down!
