In an emergency, which would you choose to save--your wallet, phone or computer?

I'm still thinking about this one. leaning towards computer.

The Duck 08-17-2008 12:45 PM

First pet then computer.

LeRoy 08-17-2008 12:47 PM

The computer.

Anna_Miller 08-17-2008 12:47 PM

Computer definately!

MediaGuy 08-17-2008 12:48 PM

Wallet first, so I wouldn't have to wait for the cards I need to convert the checks I get to cash.

:D

DateDoc 08-17-2008 12:50 PM

The dog!

Everything but the dog can be replaced. Used to suck loosing a phone as that is where all the phone numbers are and I know none of them without using the phone but since the iPhone is synced with the Mac that is no longer a worry.

ah, pet was not an option-I would say my kid first too.

so let's presume nothing else is in the mix but the wallet, computer and phone.

which of the 3 would you choose?

Jarmusch 08-17-2008 01:07 PM

What kind of emergency? House burning down?

I'm leaning towards the wallet, I have remote backups of most important computer files

But the MAC would be gone too right???

Computer here.

VicD 08-17-2008 01:11 PM

wallet , then phone and comp

Babaganoosh 08-17-2008 01:14 PM

Of those 3 I would take a computer. I've got one machine I use for network storage and CVS. I think it would come with me. I could live without my phone and wallet.

wyldblyss 08-17-2008 01:21 PM

Wallet, then computer then phone

woj 08-17-2008 01:28 PM

Seems like saving the phone would be the way to go, at least you can then call for help...

MaDalton 08-17-2008 01:44 PM

laptop - there's nothing on my phone which isnt also on my laptop. and wallet - it seems easier to get a new passport and credit card than 5 years of email and icq history

shermo 08-17-2008 01:51 PM

It's be computer for me. I can get credit cards reissued and money is money. I have backups of my phonebook on the Verizon network, so the computer saving is a no-brainer! :)

Ross 08-17-2008 01:55 PM

Assuming my girlfriend, brother and dog were safe I'd have to go with my computer I think. I lost my Hard Drive in May and it was one of the worst things to happen to me. I lost 5 years worth of stuff. Ok most of it wasn't hugely important and is backed up on my server but I wouldn't want to go through that again. Fone can be replaced easily with all my numbers as well. Wallet isn't hugely important as I know my bank account numbers in my head so it wouldn't be a problem getting money as and when needed.

BVF 08-17-2008 01:57 PM

The whole house could burn down but as long as I have my computer, I'm in business.....But a CLOSE second is my wallet.

u-Bob 08-17-2008 02:08 PM

computer, no doubt about it.

Zuzana Designs 08-17-2008 02:08 PM

computer for sure !!!

Manowar 08-17-2008 02:11 PM

my laptop

The Adult Broker 08-17-2008 02:19 PM

wonder if other industries would save their computer first too.

beemk 08-17-2008 02:22 PM

Pets
Computer
Rolodex (yes, I still have one of those things - all my user/passes are in there)
phone
In that order

My wallet is usually in my car ;)

myjah 08-17-2008 03:01 PM

Phone first. Wallet and computer tie for second.

Adult Creative Labs 08-17-2008 03:07 PM

Computer, no brainer.

Waiter 08-17-2008 03:19 PM

Computer, everything else can be replaced.

eroticsexxx 08-17-2008 05:37 PM

Wallet.

The phone can be replaced (it synchronizes with my computers). And my Puters are backed up remotely in multiple locations online and in my office.

I can work from anywhere in the world.

Lee 08-17-2008 05:42 PM

Wallet as it has all my cards in.

jalami 08-17-2008 06:36 PM

Computer, as it's the tool of my trade. I can see myself running out of my burning house wearing nothing but boxers and the laptop clutched like a football.

fuzebox 08-17-2008 06:47 PM

Am I the only one who could swap my computer for a fresh new one tomorrow and not skip a beat business wise? All of my shit is stored online and backed up... I'd rather take the wallet and not have to deal with reissuing ID and cards, with the cc I save I can have a new laptop tomorrow reinstalled with linux and all the apps I use and synched up with my server and be back in business.

fallenmuffin 08-17-2008 06:59 PM

I have everything setup for just such an occasion.

Computer
You push a button and the side of the case opens. You push another button and the harddrive slides out - in a box with a handle.

Wallet/Phone
Is on top of the computer, cellphone is on top of my wallet.

Important Papers
All important papers are in a fire-safe filing cabinet next to the computer. Tax folder for this year is setting next to the filing cabinet.

Bring it.

faxxaff 08-17-2008 07:05 PM

I have lived in a high rise in a earth quake zone before and must say that a flash light would be the best thing to have on you in case of an emergency!

Chio 08-17-2008 07:06 PM

Wallet. ID and Credit/ATM Cards can be a bitch to replace.

Computer is backed up and I use mobile sync through sprint for my phones.

Spunky 08-17-2008 07:10 PM

You don't have time to disconnect everything.my wallet and cat

rowan 08-17-2008 09:53 PM

I'm learning towards the wallet, since the cards are hard to replace (and I'd probably forget the exact contents until I actually NEEDED one of the cards)

All of my data is either expendable (can be retrieved/generated again, with a bit of work) or backed up in more than one location. That's not to say that if my shelf of computers went up in flames that I'd be jumping around the next day like nothing happened, of course... the impact of the "temporary" loss could end up being quite significant...
