Another back surgery tomorrow, this one is a biggie.

Hey guys I am going into another back surgery, this time they are putting an LT cage into my spine going in through the stomach. I am FREAKED THE FUCK OUT!!! Has anyone had this done or had family or friends who have had this done? If so, how were they after? Did they return to a normal life again?

From what I was told I will be able to do just about everything I could do before I was hurt. Right now I have two herniated disks and those disks are depleted so they are crushing the nerves causing pain down my left leg. The doctor said this is not going away, my disk will continue to herniated until they are fixed. So in my mind I have no choice but to have this surgery and get on with my life. The only thing is, I am scared to death and I cry just about every day. I think it would make me feel a little better if I heard from anyone else who has gone through this or something like this and is happy. I know that people who have had bad surgeries speak out a lot but I rarely hear about anyone who has had great surgery and are living normal lives and working out, boxing, dancing, doing anything their hearts desire.

Anyway, I should be in the hospital for about 6 days, I will have my computer so if they don't have me too drugged up I will be available to anyone, but if I am talking a fool (more than normal that is haha) don't mind please, as I am sure everyone knows what it is like when you are flying. LOL

My mother had back surgery a few years ago, but not through the stomach. They said if that one didn't help her, then they would do that one.

It is a biggie, but I remember my mom talking to several woman who have had it done and other than recovery time, all was well and healthy.

Best of luck! You will be fine.

Loryn, stay strong :)

I hope this is really the last time you need to go under the knife.

Best wishes.

I had major back surgery when I was 10... it turned out great and worked fine. Don't stress. The end result will be worth the pain.

See that is what is freaking me out, the healing time. I hate that fucking pain. I am so fucking scared. But if I am going to be normal again then it will be completely worth it. If I am going to be different then it's not worth it. Either way FUCK FUCK FUCK!!! :sadcrying

Thank you. That did help the brain settle a little.

GT-Omar 06-20-2008 12:03 PM

Best of luck babe. I know you will pull through this. You are to stubborn not to ;) We have a meeting that we have to attend, and I'm holding you to it. ;)

I had two discs removed and the vertabre fused. They went in through the stomach and through the back. 2 good size scares but it was the best thing I ever did.

I can do almost everything I did before the surgery. My big thing was i could not sit for long periods of time and that is totally gone. I am really fine by every standard. Do I get back pain? Only when i sit funny watching tv for long periods of time. I work out, dance (ok i was never good but enthusiastic).

I would thank god or my doctor for it everyday but I seriously forget i had it done... how cool is that??? Go for it and recovery time was one month limited and six months don't do crazy stuff then it was all out.

I have scoliosis .....so I know what pain is, Alot of people (chiropractors, drs) tell me I should get surgery, but in all honesty besides me not being too comfortable in my skin.....I feel ok...my back hurts every now and then but thats about it.However I have thought about getting back surgery myself....the only thing stopping me is finding the right dr and knowing for sure that i won't come out being paralyzed or something...you know its always a 50/50 chance. I don't want to worry, you, I mean I wish you all the best....just nice being able to relate with those kind of situations. Keep us updated on your health and everything!Good Luck, your very brave :)

That's what I had. Just be careful, even if it doesn't hurt (mine did not), it can cause long-term organ damage.

The healing time for me was one week bed rest pretty much with some pain. Remember you live with pain everyday and this was really nothing in comparison. The crappy thing is the nerve damage to your leg might have some permanent problems. If a girl sits on that leg it turns the shooting pains back on. Otherwise recovery is pretty cool after that.

Imortyl Pussycat 06-20-2008 12:10 PM

it will turn out great, don't get frustrated at how long the recovery will take. it will be slow but steady. i will be praying for you

OMG if you were in front of me I would kiss you. If I am going to be able to be normal and happy and dance then it is SO worth it. I am scared to death about the recovery time, but more scared about not being able to jump, ride roller coasters, have insane sex (haha), and run. They are not removing any discs just fusing the back and putting in a cage to support it. So if you are good then I have faith I will be good. Thank you!

Thank you so much. I am so glad I started this thread. I should have done it sooner, would have saved me from all that crying. lol Positive attitude is so important for surgery and I have always had one, but this time I am so scared. Now I feel a little better. You have no idea what your sharing has done to help me out. Thank you so much! It is so comforting knowing someone else who has done the same thing and is great and happy.

Me too! The Doc says it should be. They will give me a few shots in the back a month or so after to help recovery which is nothing. Thank you very much!

Let me know if you need a male nurse when you get out :)

My dad has had 2 disks removed in two separate surgeries and he stil does everything normal now. Just gotta keep a good outlook and your body will get back to normal.

It came on slowly but it was caused from a motorcycle accident I had 5 years ago. I hurt the heel in my right foot and had 6 surgeries to get that thing together and the back happened during the recovery process for the foot. It's all on the left side of my back.

Oh I will for sure. You are too much fun when I am silly in the brain. Well you fun all the time but you are super duper fun when I am silly in the head. LOL Love ya baby!

tranza 06-20-2008 12:56 PM

Good luck on the surgery!

payd2purv 06-20-2008 12:57 PM

My mom passed away 2 years ago recovering from a serious back surgery. Not like yours tho.

Good luck! You will be fine!

Edit: Actually my mom's problem was similar to your problem with the nerves in her back causing numbness and pain in her legs.. but she was like 55.. so her body just couldn't handle the surgery.. she also wasn't the most healthy woman either..

JFK 06-20-2008 01:03 PM

Best of luck Loryn:thumbsup:thumbsup

RyuLion 06-20-2008 01:09 PM

It'll be ok hun..

Karupted Charles 06-20-2008 01:12 PM

Get better babe. I know how much this has been bothering you and can only imagine how your nerves are doing. Just know a lot of people will be thinking of you and pulling for you :winkwink:

CarlosTheGaucho 06-20-2008 01:18 PM

Well you sure have all my mental support on the way.

I am sure everything will work out the best way and if you ever felt the need to talk some non sense during the process of healing, I am right here.
