If your kids broke the law would you call the police on them?

Just listening to a radio discussion with a woman that called the police on her two grown sons after they confessed to her that they had beaten a man so bad that he lost an eye. They wouldn't go to the police so she did. They are in jail and the rest of her family won't talk to her or have anything to do with her. Do you think she did the right thing? I do but clearly from the show a lot of people don't.

xNetworx 05-30-2008 02:31 AM

If they are a juvenile and need to learn a lesson = maybe

If they are an adult and they are not an immediate threat = FUCK NO

Ratting out your own family is almost as low as the crime they are guilty of :2 cents:

After Shock Media 05-30-2008 02:32 AM

I guess the answer would be depends on the crime.

Though honestly I really feel I would do my best to make them decide to turn their selves in with proper council and not turn them in myself. Sort of like how a priest would handle it. However as I said it would depend on the crime. For instance if they went pedo on me I would just outright kill them myself and then turn myself in.

If somebody beat your son (even if he is an adult at the time) so badly that he lost an eye would you not want anybody that knows who did it to speak up?

The Duck 05-30-2008 02:37 AM

Depends on the crime like previous posters said, but in this case. Hell no.

So, they would have actually had to have killed him for it to be serious enough?

Sarah_Jayne 05-30-2008 02:41 AM

I am pretty sure if I had done anything near this my mother would have killed me herself anyway.

Well duh, obviously I'd want somebody to speak up.

Thats not the question. If I knew my son did that to somebody, would I want to get him thrown in jail and wipe out any assets he has? NO!!!

Now if he said he was going to do it again or he was becoming an increasingly violent member of society I'd have to think about my options to get him off the streets.

JamesK 05-30-2008 02:44 AM

Fuck no, that's rediculous

Well, then would you blame the parents of the person that beat your kid for not stepping forward?

Nope. I'd blame the fucker that did it.

kane 05-30-2008 02:47 AM

Like most of the people here I would say it depends on the crime. In this case where they beat someone like that it would depend on the situation. Did is start off as self defense or did they just jump him for no reason? Regardless I would hound them heavily to turn themselves in. In the end I think if they have never had a problem with the law and they turned themselves in the punishment they get would probably be lighter than if they tried to hide and ended up getting caught.

I don't know that I would call the police on them, but I wold do nothing to help them hide.

xNetworx 05-30-2008 02:51 AM

The unibomber was turned in by a family member as well as several serial killers.

These type of people need to be put in jail. I think if your family member is a threat or has done extremely bad things (murder, rape, pedo) .. its only right to take them off the streets.

FUCK NO!!!

not even if he/ she killed someone

Anyone who says they would put their own kids life in danger by calling the cops on them because they violated some manmade law is absolutely crazy in my opinion

If you found a stash of CP and bloody handcuffs in your kids car, what would you do?

No idea about that case this is a UK case. If people turn a blind eye to even murder (as you said) then no wonder things are so messed up and the notion of right and wrong is vanishing.

Borrow someone elses car next time

Bloody cuff and CP wouldnt mean he did anything

the cuffs could be from anywhere

They are grown men but her 'kids'. I think one is 27 and the other 24 or something and they together attacked a guy (no suggestion that he attacked them first or anything) and beat him to the point he lost an eye. They got two years or something like that.

Sarah_Jayne 05-30-2008 03:12 AM

When you were a kid if you had stolen something from a shop and your parents found out would they have made you take it back?

Just like its not my place to punish my daughter for cheating on her BF, its not my place to call the cops on my kids

people die in prison

her turning them in could very well result in a death sentence

I would not be able to look myself in the morror.. seriously

yes they would have.... but not if the shop owner was known to beat kids who stole from the shop

I gues what I am saying is that a parent should never put their own blood in danger.... for any reason

Sarah_Jayne 05-30-2008 03:15 AM

And then if they go beat somebody else and perhaps end up killing them could you look at yourself in the mirror then?

yes i could... as i didnt kill anyone

that is something my son would have to deal with

I understand what you are saying Sarah... its just hard for me to sacrafice my child for community standards while those who create the very laws he would be punished for commit those crimes daily

dynastoned 05-30-2008 03:18 AM

no i definitely would not go to the police. id handle the shit myself.

are you saying those who create laws also beat up random men removing an eye in the process? i agree with what you're going for but that excuse is weak. community standards in your world wouldnt look down upon beating people? :helpme

You know, you don't know until you are in the position but I think at the stage where it was such a serious attack and they were not going to step forward then perhaps I would have to do it. Certainly if it was a murder. I am pretty sure my parents would but then I think my mother would drop dead on the spot if I ever did anything like that and she knew it to be true. I also know my parents would believe me to the end of the earth if I said I didn't do something but if I had confessed it then they would have issues of not making me face responsibility for my actions and they would certainly try to get me to come forward myself first.

no im not saying they beat up random people

they do far worse

they molest kids, kill people, take advantage you name it and politicians do it

but they also create all the laws

fuck it how about a round of anarchy for all... drinks on me lol

Zuzana Designs 05-30-2008 03:31 AM

So which is it? First you say you wouldn't turn them in under any circumstance, then you say you would. So there are crimes you would turn your kid in for? Where do you draw the line?

If your kid (who is an adult over the age of 18) killed someone and confessed would you turn them in?

If your kid killed a kid and confessed to you would you turn them in?

If you say no to one and yes to the other how do you decide which is which?

if my kid kills a child... then yes I turn them in

if my kid kills an adult then no....

I know this sounds crazy but I am being honest

Well, at least you are honest. The deserves some respect for sure.

I think the first thing I would do is to ask where the victim is. I will cover all his medical expenses and the lost of his eyes. You know to do something from the mistake of my son... lets just say cover it up and if he wants to file a case or something well I guess I will let the law decides... just maybe...

I told my daughter that she could commit a murder and I would help her get rid of the body....I'm on her side 100% and she can tell me about ANYTHING.

Sid70 05-30-2008 05:04 AM

living in UK for too long makes you crazy about the law, right?
