Introducing FfVb 1.00: Out of beta! (Firefox + Vbulletin extension)

Download here:
http://www.tycamtech.com/extensions/firefox/ffvb/
or
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/7023 (still in the sandbox so requires registration/login)

Features:
- Powerful ignore allows you to ignore users (threads, posts and even quotes), threads, keywords and prefix (in vb 3.7). They will be stripped right out of the page! You will forget they even exist!

- Highlight the threads/posts of users you like so that they're easier to find. You can now choose the colour to highlight as well.

- Context menus means no more typing or checking boxes. Simply right click on the user, thread or prefix that you would like to ignore or highlight and you can add them to your list with a single click!

- Preference window shows all your users, threads, prefixes and keywords in collapsible tree lists sorted by forum. Now you can remove users/threads/prefix/keywords as easily as you added them. Right click and choose "Remove" and their threads/posts will become visible again.

- Sub menu features a forum navigation, page navigation and convenient links to search, user cp, new thread and new reply as well as your button to launch the sidebar.

- Load your favorite forum's thread list into the sidebar and have it auto reload in intervals of 0s, 30s, 45s, 60s or 120s... also, you can choose to have the threads/user profiles launch into your active tab, a new tab or a new tab in the background. - Lists (except keywords) are managed by ID. Which means that if a user changes their name, or a thread title gets changed... they will still be on your ignore list.

- Lists are separate for each forum so user id #10 on Forum A will not be ignored on Forum B... since quite obviously, it will be someone different.

* Unfortunately, your lists from previous versions will not be carried over due to the formats of the saved information. But I think you will find it's very easy to re-enter the information now since you don't even need the keyboard.

Happy board whoring :thumbsup

It does save time. I'm hoping to spruce it up a bit more in future updates. :thumbsup

I've been using this for a few days not and I can't find a problem. It fucking rocks.

If only I could get stuart to dev some of the ideas i've talked to him about over the years...

No close button on the mac side. But at least apple+w closes the prefs window.

Yeah, someone else has mentioned that.. that's pretty bizarre because Firefox is supposed to take care of that on it's own. I have no control over the close buttons at all.
I'll have to dig deeper into that and see if Firefox screwed something up or if I somehow had an effect on that.

Everything else is ok though?

Add in a google search box some place, and make some extra cash.

GatorB 05-27-2008 04:35 PM

Sure it does, I'm using FF3 RC1 right now.
Right click on my name in this post and go to the FfVb Management sub menu.

fuzebox 05-27-2008 04:40 PM

Nice, it's way cleaner now without the checkboxes.

GFY has been contest-thread-free for well over a month now, it's great :thumbsup

Yeah, I've never been too fond of the checkboxes but it was the best I could do at the time.

The right click menu is a much better place to put the functionality for this plug in :thumbsup

Well I was talking about another forum. I finally got it to work. Had to go through some hoops though. Rick clicking the name won't work. I have to go to the ingore list on the user CP and add the name manually then import that to ffvb. Also shows the webite url as undefined and I have no way of changing that.

Can you mail me the url of the forum to ffvb @ tycamtech.com so that I can check it out?
Perhaps I can fix it up so that it will recognized the names..

Ok, so basically they had screwed around with their forum navigation quite a bit, putting in an image rather than just leaving it straight text. This meant that the extension had no way of knowing which forum it was on (since it uses that navigation to get it's information)
This even screwed things up with the bottom menu bar.

Update to ver 1.01 and that should fix it right up for you :)

very cool nice work.

Jim_Gunn 05-27-2008 09:39 PM

I never understood the purpose of ignore. Are you that sensitive that you can't just skip over someone's topics yourself? Don't you want to at least see the thread titles even for the people or subjects you dislike? I would never want some threads to be hidden even from a casual glance

GrouchyAdmin 05-27-2008 11:07 PM

This is actually pretty good.

because some people are assholes and it's better not to deal with them at all. Let's say I call you're house all the time just to fuck with you. Are you saying eventually you won't put me on call block? Why? even if that means I let it ring 25 times in a row then call you right back and let it ring 25 times again? Of course not you are going to put me on call block ie IGNORE.

I'd never put a thread on ignore just assholes. face if if I was bother you and even if you and I start talking about you wife and children and saying real nasty things you are just going to "glance" over that? Even if you put me on normal ignore and someone quotes me you are going to see it. I know this and I know eventually if I keep up you will respond. This extension means you won't see my ranting and thus I lose because I would be wasting my time and looking like a fool after the 100th time posting crap and no responses from the people I'm trying to piss off.

there also the issue some certain people who either post basically entire novels for posts and the people that quote them and add very little in their own post. Some of us hate scrolling and scrolling.

Though they don't take up much space, "fifty" and "100" posts are stupid. If that's all someone is going to write there's no harm ignoring that.

There was a guy on here a couple of weeks ago who only posted retarded pictures, even very gross ones.
He started racist threads and just generally was out to inspire hate.

Most people can look passed that and mentally ignore a person like that but for some, it's nice to be able to go about your day without knowing he even exists.

For that, I make my extension. It's not because you're too sensitive that you can't handle it, it's because you shouldn't have to handle it. It should be your choice if you want to not see that as part of your day.

OS X.4.11
Firefox 3.0

FfVb 1.01

Worked for a little while but after putting a bunch of threads on the ignore list it kind of reset itself and removed them all. Now when I control click on a thread and choose FfVb all the options are greyed out.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but the same prob still exists.

Have tried it on FF 2.0.0.12 (on the same machine) and it does the same thing.

Also have tried it on another machine and all the options are also greyed out.

I really wish I had a mac to test it out properly.
Unfortunately I don't so it's tough to fix bugs that only appear on a mac :(

I'll check into it though today as best I can and see if I can see what might be causing that.

Can you check your preferences "Thread Ignore" tab and see if all the threads are still in there?

ncg 05-29-2008 05:08 AM

Nope, they all dissapeared at the same time the options greyed out.

Hmm... have you changed your profile recently? Set up a new profile? Or changed it somehow?

ncg 05-30-2008 12:25 AM

Nope,

Didn't change a thing. Seems to work for other vbulletin forums but not gfy.

StuartD 05-30-2008 06:27 PM

Well guys, I don't know what to tell you. I've tried and tried and simply can't get it to recreate that problem.

Can you check to ensure that this file exists on your system?

C:\documents and settings\{your windows name}\Application Data\mozilla\Firefox\profiles\{profile.default}\ff vb.dat

I know, a long way to go for a file but that file contains the data for the extension. If for what ever reason it's not there or is corrupted, that could be causing the problem.

If it looks ok and you're still having issues... delete that file and reload gfy.
It will recreate the file from scratch.

ncg 05-30-2008 11:19 PM

ah, thank you.

The file existed so I deleted it and reloaded the gfy page. Now things work again.
For Mac users the file lives at
~user/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/yiev1acr.default/ffvb.dat
