what is the best way to pimp the industry instead of letting it pimp you

well i always hear people asking if someone does double anal...

Stay off drugs.
Do not support a boyfriend.
Avoid extreme scenes.
Start softer and work your way up. Even first anal if ever should be huge pay day.
Avoid interracial work for as long as possible. (Hard one as I am in that niche myself)
Have and keep a great personality.
Pick your directors/producers carefully.
Stay as natural as possible body wise.
Use the internet and do not let some hacks have your site.
If you can control your own product, not an easy feat but it is possible.
Embrace your fans and make them love you. Do not come off as a bitch when your attending your major fanshows. Oh also do attend them.
Feature dance when you can to expand fan base and build account balance.
Do not live the industry life. You do not need to party every night or buy bunches of useless crap.
Live well within your means and as effeciently as possible saving every penny you can.
Trademark your stagename and also register all domain variants of it before going public.

The major downfall I think we all see most often is a lack of business knowledge - the more she can learn about straight business management, the better she'll do. Sure, she may love what she's doing, and that will go a long way for her, but if she doesn't treat it like a job, she'll burn out and blow through her money before she's built anything lasting.

No really this is a good list to start with.

* Pick one name and stick with you. There is nothing worse for your marketing efforts than going through 200 name changes throughout the span of your career. In fact, it’s so important it’s worth saying again …. PICK ONE NAME AND STICK WITH IT.

* Pick a name that is easy to spell. People will complicated names often have trouble with marketing. You want your fans to easily find you, right? Easy to spell names include things like Lisa and Lola. An example of a hard to spell name would be Lanny Barby. There are no less than 9 commonly used variations of her name. If you pick a name and can immediately think of more than 5 ways to spell it, you probably want to pick another name.

* Next make sure you pick a first and a last name! If you plan on going far, as in far enough to make the really big bucks you’ll want to build an empire on your name that you pick and the only way to do that right is to have a first and last name as it just makes marketing and trademarking easier.

* Pick a real name … don’t go with things like Mirage, Peaches or, Princess. Besides being done to death, it’s just stupid sounding. If you want to be taken serious, pick a real name (first and last).

* Say the name out loud. Does it sound stupid? Tell a few friends and ask what they think of the name. This is a name you are going to be associated with for years so make sure it’s something you like.

* Go to the IAFD and search the name you have picked to make sure there is no other porn star with your name. You want a name that is unique. They have cataloged a database of over 80,000 porn stars dating back to like original from the 1970’s to the porn stars of today.

* Google the name and make sure that it’s not associated with some crazy serial killer or anything like that. You never know. You don’t want to end up picking the name you will regret a year later.

* Pick a name where a domain name is available. Go to GoDaddy and search the names you like and if the dot com is available buy it before applying to work with any porn company. If the .com version of your name isn’t available, pick another name.

Yes, and make sure that the name is not associated with any trademarks. A customer wrote a review on one of my sites for some old porn star by the name of Cr***la Blue. The Cr***la corporation legal department was up my ass for months about it and they were gunning for her too.

Because of my settlement with them, I can?t spell out their name but you can guess who they are.

Nobody in porn is your friend. PERIOD. They either want want you have or dont want you to get what they have, they will drag you down if you allow it. Maintain your own friends outside the biz. If you socialize with porners do it from the standpoint of "it's work"

I know this sounds harsh but it is 99% true and if you operate from that perspective you will never go wrong.

Mike I think this is more true in the DVD side of the pond than in the Internet side. There's a lot of genuine people on the INternet side. Maybe 30-40% of the people I know through work are genuine friends I would also want to keep in touch with were i a professional astronaut or astrologer.

I'm no expert but there is some good advice in here. I would say this as well:

1. as others have said manage your money well. I would say live well below you means. If you are making 100K a year live like someone making 30K and save and invest the rest. The reason is simple. This business will chew you up and spit you out. In a few years you may change your mind and decide you want a different path. It might take a while to find something else to do with yourself and you will need that money.

2. If you have plans of being a teacher or dong any job that deals with the public or kids, don't do it. Eventually someone will find out about your past and it will cost you.

3. If you are doing this for some quick money, don't. There are better ways to make some fast money than to be a porn star. If she is hot and just needs some quick cash she can strip for a few months. Sure, someone she knows might see her, but that is better than having hardcore porn movies out there that you will spend the rest of your life explaining.

4. Go big or go home. If you decide to be a pornstar work you ass off to be as big as possible. If you work hard, save your money and do everything you can to make as much money as possible when you get to the point where you no longer want to do it you will have a nice chunk of change to live off of.

5. Learn to say no or have someone in your life that will. You hear about girls going to a shoot then finding out the director wants them to do anal or something they weren't planning on or getting paid for. They feel pressured to do the scene and are guilted into doing it and regret it. Be willing to say no and if you can't have someone with you that can and will. Don't be afraid to walk away. It is better to lose a job then end up doing something you regret.

6. Understand that this is forever and people will see it. No matter what you do with your live down the road these movies and pics will be around. People will recognize you and approach you in public. If the idea of having "fans" approach you while you are in the mall with your family or friends horrifies you, don't do it. Also, understand that 20 years from now when you are long retried from the business and working for some big company, someone will find one of your videos and it will make it's way around the office. There have been stories of people getting fired for having been porn stars 15 years earlier so understand that this will happen and that many people, once they find out about your past, will look at you differently.

anyway, just my 2 cents

I would add to this to treat it like a business. When you are scheduled to shoot a scene, show up on time and be professional. You will gain a lot more respect that way.

actually that was intended for the video side not the net side...I have a lot of good friends on the net side and people have gone out of their way to help me with things. You dont find that in porn valley very much. yes theres exceptions but its so generally true you are best to operate as though everyone wants to fuck you over.

Also forgot to mention that she should know her period schedule if she has one (pills ya know) and not schedule around those regardless.
Keep track of your purchased outfits, extra douches, etc. and personally I would say to keep them on a seperate debit card linked to your business account. While you are at it keep a vehicle milage and usage log and use it religiously. You get to keep more when you handle your taxes right. There is a whole slew of work related deductions.

I don't know if this is really true or not but on Howard Stern they ask just about very porn chick that comes on if she does black guys. If they say no, when pressed many of them have said because it lowers the price they can then get. I don't know if that is true or not, but there have been several girls that have said that.
