So I taught my daughter how to ride a bike this weekend and...

She rocked! up and pedaling in 2 minutes and taking off at 50 mph LOL. Only had to hold on to the bike one time before I let go. Before we knew it she was breaking, making turns, doing figure 8's. never even fell once.

She felt like a champion and I did too. :thumbsup It was a proud moment.

a milestone reached! and you? a proud moment or milestone lately? let's hear it :)

munki 04-21-2008 02:21 PM

My puppy Lucca learned how to bitch slap people...

fluffygrrl 04-21-2008 02:29 PM

Congrats.

jmk 04-21-2008 02:40 PM

Awww how cute! Well done.

I remember when my dad taught me. As a kid you learn so fast but it's scary nevertheless :)

MaDalton 04-21-2008 02:47 PM

i remember my first time well, i drove directly into a trashbin :-/

I just bought my first house, although it will be a few months before I move into it, but a milestone nevertheless. Congrats on yours :)

LeRoy 04-21-2008 02:53 PM

Now you can teach her Wheeelies

J$tyle$ 04-21-2008 03:12 PM

Nice, Lori!

I taught my daughter a couple years ago ... same scenario - up and peddling right away, breaking, figure 8's and all!

Definitely one of those proud moments!

It's funny, I felt the same way when I taught her to tie her shoes as well!

My son's most recent accomplishment was climbing up the step stool and washing his hands and face all by himself ... water still sprays everywhere but he's doing it!

LOL

Funny how even the smallest things make me proud :)

We've been trying to teach our daughter how to ride a bike on and off for the past year. Nothing seemed to work. It wasn't until just now when the weather got warmer and all of the other kids started riding their bikes. Suddenly she figured it out.

Last week we went for our first bike ride and it was great!

So we went out this weekend and she managed to hit a pole pretty hard - to the point where we had to call a friend with a SUV to come pick her up.

She's fine now.

But yeah, what a whoot to have your child really riding a bike on their own for the first time.

Elli 04-21-2008 04:27 PM

Aww so many tender moments in this thread! Congrats to all the growing chilluns and rugrats and their proud parents!

Pornopat 04-21-2008 06:42 PM

Congrats! You have all the reason to be proud!

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 04-21-2008 06:52 PM

I shot a deer over the weekend:)
1 Shot and downed it from almost 50-60 yards away.

It ran about 100 yards though before collapsing.

Got plenty of meat for a while.
Anyone want some Jerky?

hope she is ok! yea it's a proud moment. took a year of coaxing but I told her it is easier than riding her scooter :winkwink: plus we went out an tooled around on a little motorboat around the marina earlier and I let her steer in the basin and taught her how to 'steer'. it applied to the bike later that afternoon so she had a masterful day (I was more nervous about her crashing the boat than falling off the bike! )

EuroRev_Stacey 04-22-2008 12:22 AM

Cool that's nice to hear...can't wait to teach my son riding on a bike too :)
And eventually, I'd love to see him ride and race in a motorcycle!

My daughter can finally go to the bathroom all by herself, just happened these last two weeks. She gets up now in the morning and goes to the bathroom before she even wakes anybody up. She is 3 1/2 years old.

carol.prime 04-22-2008 10:14 AM

wow!! congrats to her glad that you had a great bonding.;)

TubeTitans_SusieQ 04-22-2008 10:23 AM

thats cute! did you treat her to some ice cream afterwards?

Socks 04-22-2008 10:24 AM

My son is 3 months old, and is already a huge hockey fan. ;)

Evil Chris 04-22-2008 10:27 AM

That's great Lori! How old is your daughter?

D-Money 04-22-2008 10:40 AM

My 2 year old almost pee'd in the toilet.

Instead he thinks it's much funnier if he pees on me.

Not quite a milestone yet, but he's learning to pee on command, with daddy as the target.

All nice and all and congrats, but why is it called a "dutch" oven?

LMFAO :1orglaugh I finally researched it. looks like the dutch oven was a pot with a heavy sealed lid to keep the 'heat in' and...

dutch oven has three legs, a wire bale handle, and a slightly convex, rimmed lid so that coals from the cooking fire can be placed on top as well as below. This provides more uniform internal heat and lets the inside act as an oven.

...so... the inside acts as an oven, much like under the covers, it traps you in! that's as close as i got - but the answer is finally revealed I do believe :thumbsup

and will probably get the same after her riding later today when she shows our friends her new level of kidhood :)

awwww buzz kill

Princess Ellisa 04-22-2008 03:22 PM

Awww! That is awesome that your daughter accomplished bike riding so quickly and that you got to see it. I bet with all your travel it makes those moments together even more special.

I don't know about any milestones i have reached lately, I do consider The Barefoot Retreat a really big accomplishment though... monumental... probably not but now that it is over and i look at all the work that went into it I feel like I achieved something :)

I have to admit I never rode a Harley and I don't even have the license to drive an adult motorbike, but it's one of the things I want to do over a summer, buy me some crap ride to learn and go for a license..

Just for illustration, I haven't sit on a bicycle for like 14 years, so it won't be easy.

The older I get I surprisingly realize that I want to ride a Harley like never before..

Don't you hate it when they do that?

Congrats, you know all the prime numbers between 1 and 100,000. What 4 year old doesn't?
