How many of you have a Masters Degree?

How many of you have a Masters or are studying for a Masters?

I have the opportunity to enter into a Masters program, but I'm doubting it will be of any value to me, since I'm working in porn, I am my own boss, and I'm not planning to get into the job market any time soon. So I want to hear from the Masters out there if they consider it to be a waste of time, money and effort.

I appreciate your comments.

Just about to finish my bachelor of science degree in a chemical physics program, my advice and what I want to do is wait, wait until I have enough money and time to not have to worry about money and time and then I can do things like that to enrich my life, but until then I have other priorities.

Good thinking. Thanks for sharing

My opinion is MBA is for those considering a career change or career advancement. If you're at the point where you are making over 100k or you are your own boss, it'd be for networking value and making connections with the other grads, giving you exposure that can benefit your business down the road.

rayadp05 04-20-2008 02:58 AM

If your making more money working in the adult industry than you would be by obtaining the masters degree then stick with working in porn. If not, get the masters degree and continue to work in porn as backup source for extra income. Your question depends on how much you are making now as opposed to how much you should be making by having the masters degree. My advice...weigh the two optons out together and then make a decison based on that.

Good point, I have a M.B.A. and it has helped me over the years, even in Adult :winkwink:

I've got a Masters Degree but it's completely useless for me at this time.

Interesting

Si, amigo. I have a couple.

When I worked in my field they were required, so they were worth it. I really enjoyed school, so I don't regret any time/money spent. And I may use them again one day, so it's nice to always have a good job waiting on you. I'm not locked into strictly porn online anymore, but if I were, I know I'd tire of it, eventually.

marko13 04-20-2008 07:58 AM

i think that it is good choice if you have try to enroll in some master degree program... and even better if you could use it for yourself.... try to find similarities to what are you working now and that master degree... i think that there will be always some things that can help you from master degree knowledge into porn or mainstream and vice versa....

SkeetSkeet 04-20-2008 09:17 AM

i have a masters in international business ... not really doing anything with it so to say but I think I have picked up a few things going to class for all those years :)

CurrentlySober 04-20-2008 12:09 PM

I have a masters degree in poo!

i like poo...

I didn't get it sitting an exam... I got it sitting on the toilet !!!

notoldschool 04-20-2008 12:16 PM

Being a webmaster makes a masters degree or any higher education degree a waste for sure. All you get is loans to pay back for your work. Not worth it at all.

Noe 04-20-2008 12:27 PM

I'm in the same situation as you and am pursuing a Masters in International Business. My motivation is not career advancement, school is something that I enjoy and continue to do for personal fulfillment.

Your ignorance never fails to amaze me.

I am currently assisting goodgirl in getting her MBA. Even though all I do is edit her papers and bounce ideas between the two of us I can see the benefits of her improving herself, both in her personal life and business wise.

Yeah, if you are getting your masters in anthropology you may find it difficult to apply your newfound knowledge to the Internet; and if your life goal is to remain a webmaster then there is no reason to go past the 8th grade.

woj 04-20-2008 12:37 PM

I have Masters in electrical and computer engineering, it's not really that useful here, it almost seems like I wasted my time... but it's nice to know that if things get rough, I can always get a job paying 60-80k without much sweat... I would go for it if I were you, no one knows what the online biz will be like in 5 years, it's profitable now, but who knows what will happen in 5 years... plus you also learn a thing or 2, heh :thumbsup

Redrob 04-20-2008 12:44 PM

I'd have to say to go for an MBA if you have the time and opportunity.

The program will teach you an analytical way of looking at business problems.

These skill will serve you for the rest of your life and increase your value to both yourself, your business and any future employer.

Well said - I have an MBA as well - it didn't make me any more money or get me a spectacular job (I was happy in the field I was in, and not looking to market widgets for P&G) - but what I got out of it was being better able to look at business problems and come up with solutions analytically.

No serious employer would hire you once you've been out of the cubicle scene for that long.

It might be a little a harder after a while, but I think as long as you have your shit together and are actually pretty good at what you are doing then you should be fine... :2 cents:

Working on an MBA (Anderson @ UCLA). For me, it's more about the educational attainment moreso than to make more money.

And your rudeness and straight-up bitch attitude does not amaze anyone anymore.

No one will be able to tell you if it is good for you to do it or not, you have to ask yourself that question. Is it something that you WANT to do, if the answer is yes, go for it. It may not help you much in your current activities, but will definitely broaden your horizons. :2 cents::2 cents:

CunningStunt 04-22-2008 03:39 AM

I seriously doubt it would help you in any way whatsoever if you were to continue webmastering.

I have had the same thoughts about Upping my BSc to an MBA, but just don't see the value. Sure, if you want to go and get a job in an office, then it will be of huge help. I don't think I'll ever set foot in an office for work ever again in my life, so took the decision not to bother.

If you have that many hours available to study, hang out in some black (and white) hat forums learning the ropes, you'll make money a lot faster that way if you're smart enough. And no, GFY is neither, it's just for shits and giggles.

Jon Clark - BANNED FOR LIFE 04-22-2008 03:40 AM

I have a PhD in making money...!

StaceyJo 04-22-2008 05:32 AM

I have took my master degree but I havent finished it yet, studying sometimes can be so boring and dull but I also think to finish what I started... you know sometimes we want change :)

czarina 04-22-2008 05:39 AM

Masters are only for those who depend on someone else to put food on their table. If you're currently independent, don't worry about it. May be in a few years, when you have nothing better to do, go for it, but without rushing

Sarah_Jayne 04-22-2008 05:46 AM

I am halfway through my Masters and taking a year break to get married. To me it depends on what people mean about it being worthwhile. I find it helps to improve my mind and thought processes. Will it earn me more money? Probably not if I stay doing this but it is about personal fulfillment and development for me. Perhaps one day it will pay off financially too. I know that I in no way regret my first degree as I know that helped to improve me as a person and the sense of accomplishment was pretty good too.

As for myself. Only the Bach. Still paying on it (student loans). :disgust

Have to agree with the MBA people.

The Judge 04-22-2008 06:33 AM

The smartest post in this thread. Without breaking any gfy rules, can you say with what word does the black-hat forum name rhyme with ?:winkwink:

I have my MBA and I MISS school!!! My bachelors is in psychology, so biz school really helped me learn about, well, business!!! Programs are what you make them, a lot of the time. Some people in my MBA didn't do shit and are probably none the wiser. However, others, who actually wanted to be there and learn, got a LOT out of it.

I got only a BComm but when it comes to education the higer you go the better, most of the people that say "yeah, I got one, fucking useless" simply don't think straight, you always get something out of it, always!!!

GUNNER 04-22-2008 08:11 AM

I have my MPA from the Univ of Illinois

entertained the idea of getting a PhD. and wish I had... not because it'd make me a more intelligent person or because I'd earn even a penny more, but because I could change my porno nick to something cool like, "Doctor Gunner"

CherryLipsRosa 04-22-2008 09:40 AM

I would say do it for yourself and enjoy it. I have 4 degrees (no masters) and working on my fifth to just keep learning new things. i do it for fun more than for getting a better job or making money.
