To most of you shooting in HD - it looks like shit.
 

I'm appalled at how many (not all) of you are running sites bragging about "HD" and your content looks like ass. You can't simply swap out your camera for an HD cam and expect it to look great without adjustments. For starters you need a lot more light than you're used to. Hence why so many of the content looks darker than it should. What is the point of shooting in HD if it looks like shit?

Secondly, choose your models better. The point of HD is that it sees EVERYTHING. That means when you hire models with jacked up legs, scars, stretch marks or has a hairy body, IT SHOWS IT!!!

I'm not going to name any names but I'm seeing some top programs who was shooting KILLER content before, now have dark and lifeless looking videos.

I'll end this rant by saying that I can't stand downloading HD videos anyway. They are too big and unless you are on a blazing connection, they just take too long. I'm sitting here with my cock on my hand, wanting to cum, and it takes a fucking hour to download some of these videos. Pornography is an impulse industry. That means guys want INSTANT gratification. Translated, men want to cum RIGHT NOW, not in an hour. Those of you with cocks should know what I'm talking about.

I'm agreeing with you but keep in mind that HD doesn't necessarily mean more lights are needed. It depends on the camera and its light sensitivity.
Also, there are many ways to minimize flaws when shooting in HD.

i really don't like porn so far shot in HD - and Alien is right, it's not even real HD - the pseudo HD files are too fucking big already for your average cable or DSL user.

you could shoot SD video in 16:9 and encode using a moderately high bitrate and call it HD and nobody on the web would know the difference. there are some sites who do exactly that.

I personally don't shoot in HD. I don't think, nor do my current clients, that trannys look especially good in HD. Most of them have jacked up legs and body hair somewhere. The illusion of TS is better off in not so much detail.

My HD stuff its well lit and looks good however Im using the HVX 200 and it requires alot of light which is the pain becasue of the small 1/3 inch CCDS New cameras are coming out that have bigger 1/2 inch chips which Im soon moving to. The HD cameras on the market have some great skin softening filters that work wonders. Most shooters don't know how to use this but it works great. You guys may not appreciate HD right now but they stopped making SDTVs so you will only be able to upconvert your old videos which will look like shit, while us HD guys will be able to watch our shit in HD. You guys need to think about the future and where your content will be shown. One day your home computer may be displayed on your HDTV, that SD will look like shit compare to the HD stuff.

DIVX has a way to watch your HD content on your HDTV already.

I agree with what DirtyWhiteBoy says, for the most part. There is a lot of programs thinking they can jump on the 'hd bandwagon' and produce widescreen videos with their handycams that look like complete pixelated shit.

HD for the pc is like brand new video games are for the pc. Usually the user if they want the FULL effect of the game need to upgrade hardware and possibly connection. If you think our connections will always be too slow to support viewing of full tilt hd video you are kidding yourself. What was your connection like in 1998? 56k for most if they were lucky. In 10 years its blown up. www.hulu.com for those in the U.S. I can watch videos on there full screen on my 22" widescreen monitors with no buffering at superb quality with no pixilation issues.

Now sure there will be people having to adapt and how to properly shoot hd, and how to properly prepare models in order to shoot in that quality. If you think people are going to continue to be happy with their porn at 512k 320x240 you are deluded. If they can watch the office at 3360x1050 with out a glitch or a buffer do you think they will be happy on a paysite that can barely stream 640x480 at 1100k after a 2 minute buffer wait?

Flash 3 and Silverlight both can deliver video amazingly fast with little to no buffer if on the proper network. Adult needs to continue to innovate or some mainstream company is going to step in and show us how things are done folks.

I disagree with you here. Not every porn consumer cares about the latest technology. This industry is fast to forget it comes down to one thing, a hot girl (or whatever floats their boat). Nothing more, nothing less. Most consumers are not going to care if it's full screen, though it IS nice, or it's 640x480, the bottom line always boils down to a hot chick getting fucked or being sexy, in any format.

Well more or less what I was pointing out was when there are FREE mainstream sites pushing that kind of quality the consumer is going to become used to it. Then if they are PAYING for a service and it doesnt come close to what a free to consumer service is doing they might have reservations about that rebill. :winkwink:

I agree that trannys should be shot in standard def, since they look fucked up and hairy and mannish in sharp detail but as far as pretty girls, I would never go back to filming in SD at this point unless a client specifically insisted on it. Of course one has to hire pretty models without a lot of flaws, and generally use a lot of good quality and well placed lights, and hire a good makeup artist to properly show the detail when one shoots in HD. It also helps to know what you are doing with the video encoding aspect to make the resultant compressed files (WMV, QT etc) look as good as possible. I know my customers are happy with my efforts.

Of course there are major trade offs in quality and file size. Yes the files are huge, but one can always split the video into clips and also offer a much smaller frame sized file like a 480 x 270 version at say 1500 Kbps bitrate or so. It still looks way better than if you had filmed in SD and exported at say 512 x 384, assuming that you lit the set properly and encoded it using the best codecs.

True... but let's be kind: most of them don't know the difference between HDV and HD anyway.
