How many of you tried Durian fruit?
I'm watching some TV show about weird foods and they are talking about durian right now. I remember having one in Asia. Talking about nasty!!!!
|
It tastes, and smells like bile, dirty socks, and shit, all at the same time.
I gagged when I tried a small piece. I could NOT get over the smell. |

smells like dog shit, I couldn't eat it
|
I love it, you only have to get used to the smell.
|
Tastes great, smells like urine.
Many years ago, like 10+ I was in Singapore for 6 weeks. Every hotel room had listed on the card on the back of each door things like "No guests after 11, no smoking, no cooking, no this no that" and they ALWAYS ended with "No Durian Fruit allowed in the rooms". Always made me chuckle. |
A couple of times, it tastes better then it smells, but that's not saying too much. Apparently in Thailand, I was told when there once, that the most highly prized ones are those eaten whole by elephants, and shat out undigested. Not sure how that could improve the flavour, but people do eat weird shit.

... its odor is best described as pig-shit, turpentine and onions, garnished with a gym sock. It can be smelled from yards away. Despite its great local popularity, the raw fruit is forbidden from some establishments such as hotels, subways and airports, including public transportation in Southeast Asia |

I've always wondered with foods like this....who was the first idiot to say "that smells like a big dog turd...but I think I'll try eating it anyways"
|
ditto - it tastes great.
Too bad it smells beyond horrid---it's like a combo of vomit and crap. |

There's lot of durian in PI. Thre's even a hotel in souther PI calles "The Durian Hotel"
But guess what, guest are prohibited to bring durian fruit inside the hotel because once you open a durian fruit inside a carpeted room, the stink will stay on the carpet for weeks! even the carpet shampoo cant help. I cant bear the taste and of course the smell of durian, my wife once asked me to try the durian ice cream... guess what... It's still smells! :Oh crap:Oh crap:Oh crap |
