BMW M3 or MB C63 AMG

The Audi RS4, despite being 4WD and having an amazing V8, has just aged a little too much. The decision is now down between those two contenders. I had always been an M3 fan, the new C63's beastly 6.2l is an incredible engine though.

How would you choose and why?

Not that i am bias ;) M3 for sure.

pimpD 12-25-2007 12:03 PM

Are you buying it new? Either way, I'd stick with the M3.

FuqALot 12-25-2007 12:14 PM

and if yuo really want an m3, get the m3csl. its hardcore.

No shit, I thought that it was already being sold in the US.

Already seen it driving here in Germany.

TidalWave 12-25-2007 12:32 PM

C63 will be a lot faster in a straight line, guaranteed and i think it'll be faster in the corners too!

but when it comes down to it, how many people here will actually drive either car in the type of "corners" where you will even begin to notice the difference.
the only thing that matters is straight line highway/road speed and the C63 definitely wins that.
don't forget that some simple ECU tuning will also get the C63 up to the same BHP as the E63/CLS63/CL63

I don't think I agree with you on the cornering. If you turn off the ESP, it appears to be pretty out of control.

The interior on the new C class is pretty laughable, too. Very, very cheap.

[ScreaM] 12-25-2007 12:56 PM

BMW because I simply love that company.

Mike Semen 12-25-2007 01:07 PM

the audi has my vote still

TidalWave 12-25-2007 03:25 PM

Alky 12-25-2007 03:33 PM

Not mentioned, but I love my infiniti m45

Violetta 12-25-2007 04:13 PM

yeah, thread needs pics, but I am too lazy!

Gottis 12-25-2007 05:29 PM

the C63 kills the M3
benz really came through this time, its very sporty

noone1 12-25-2007 05:41 PM

They just reviewed all three together on Top Gear. True it is Top Gear, but good footage of them all.

www.autospies.com has a link to the site with all three segments.

Oh and don't get a CSL like someone above said. Well, unless you want to only drive it in the sun on a dry day with absolutely no luxury.

Or, forget all of those and get a real sports car. Get in line for an R8.

xentech 12-25-2007 05:44 PM

i hate bmw drivers they are all twats, on the other hand the M3 is a better gar. go with the m3 :)

ememex 12-25-2007 05:58 PM

Get the M3 E90/92, or if you can afford it, the M5 E60.

Just yesterday, the M3 won in comparison to the RS4 and C63 on Top Gear.

I can't post the URL due to silly posting restrictions on GFY, but here's the video of the show: www DOT autoblog DOT com/2007/12/24/video-i-top-gear-i-drives-the-m3-c63-and-rs4

sexykat 12-25-2007 06:01 PM

I agree, the C63 can trap 116mph in a 1/4 mile, that will flat out murder a M3 in acceleration. The M3 will murder it in the corners though, the sequential trans shifts way faster, it has a perfect weight distrubution & it's 200lbs lighter, (the C63 has a 54/46 weight split like a Mustang due to the huge motor, M3 has a perfect 50/50 weight dist.) and the suspension used in the C63 is pretty docile for daily driving.

TidalWave 12-25-2007 06:11 PM

anyone pushing the E90 M3 isn't doing so based on facts, but rather their own fantasy's.

The C63 is the higher performer, that is fact. I won't even be getting a C63, any C-Class is way below my wants so I'm not even posting this as preferential treatment towards MBZ. In fact I used to own an E46 M3 and it was indeed a great car for its time!

06 M5's are getting cheap..

I think it all depends on age. I have never been a mercedes fan and probably never will. I will be buying the new m3 when it comes out.

I prefer BMW over Mercedes too. BMWs are less powerful but they use lighter/smaller engines that rev. to 8,500rpms+. The Mercedes uses a big V8 that weighs a ton, but it makes a lot more torque and HP under the curve.
Even when you compare the E55 to the M5, or the last gen C55/CLK55 to the E46 M3 it's the same. The M's have always been more raw, lighter and track tuned. The Mercedes make more power, but the chassis & suspension is more geared towards luxury.

The new M3 is gonna be nice, can't wait for that.

GTS Mark 12-25-2007 10:29 PM

Out of those 2 choices I would suggest the M3 for sure. Great bang for your buck!

The car is 3 years old and costs 60k? Thats a bit steep.

The C63 will have a remapped and incredibly fast transmission. The suspension is also not like anything else in the C-class range.

The C63 was built to be a direct competitor to the E90 M3, and has got it beat in all avenues, but one. I think the E90 M3 is absolutely hot and would love it if it was faster.

its a high end luxury performance sedan. it sold for $100k when it was new. $30k depreciation in 3 years is actually bad.

how much do you think old ass ferrari's sell for?

It does shift fast, but it's still nowhere near the sequential used in M class BMWs. The C63 still uses a traditional slushbox with a torque convertor, it's a hightech automatic but it will never shift as fast as a true sequential transmission.
A sequential is basically a manual transmission, (no torque convertor) with an automatic clutch. You basically get a shift as firm as if it were a manual, but much faster than a human OR torque convertor could ever change gears. The SMGs used in M powered BMWs shift faster than the F1 sequential used in Ferraris. As far as I know, no other production car minus true F1 race cars can shift faster.

The suspension might be great, but it can't overcome pyshics. Balance & weight are the biggest factors when it comes to handling & braking. The M3 is both lighter & more balanced. HP isn't everything. It's funny going to my local track and watching a 200hp Elise drug 400-500hp+ cars like it's nothing.

Trax 12-26-2007 01:57 AM

i have the strong feeling that the c63 kills the m3
