I'm watching BET AWARDS 2007 on MTV BASE (running in the backgroud)

It's some kind of black music awards show (hiphop rnb etc)

What i caught my attention is when the show host (big fat black lady) put her fist in the air and urged the audience to chant "I'M BLACK AND I'M PROUD"

I'm pretty sure if a white person did something like that, the black would raise such a stink that we'd never hear the end of it.

It's two different things.
In the U.S. black is synonymous with an ethnic and/or cultural identify and experience: African American.

White as a descriptor of a group is not remotely the same. White does not mean you're Irish or German or Italian or Russian or French or etc. It's simply indicative of what you aren't.
