Tattoo Coverup

After having the leprechaun tattoo since I was 16, I decided to cover it up with something a little more meaningful, as I have a much better custom designed leprechaun on my arm. After finding the artist of my choice, I went in yesterday for an appointment. After a 7 and a half hour session and skin so raw that it hurts to even move today, this was the final result. I will go in 2 weeks from now for color touch ups, but as you can see in the pic below, she did an amazing job with the coverup and integrating many elements together that she's never combined previously.

The tattoo is of a Chinese dragon with Celtic knots for scales, and in his claws are my family crest. In other words, it is a bit of a Hybrid. :1orglaugh

Nice work man... One of the best coverups I have seen... Usually coverups only turn out so so and you can tell thats what they are, yours looks like a good orginal tat.

Thanks man. I was quite pleased with the outcome!

Mike... I am still surprised that none of the original comes through. :thumbsup

None after this. This has meaning well beyond you can probably imagine. Thanks for your attempt at positivity though. :upsidedow

Sherm, that's pretty cool. I think it's neat that you chose to have celtic knotwork for the scales. I've never really seen anything like that before.

Spunky 11-24-2007 09:04 PM

She did a damn good job

Farang 11-24-2007 11:16 PM

I am too... After the first 3 hours, my skin was beat to shit. After a 30 minute break, we came back and sat again. The pain (pure irritation) at that point was insane and she kept asking if I wanted to come back for another session. Being as I didn't want to go through this a 2nd time, I chose to stick it out as long as her hand was still steady. :thumbsup

The best part: I didn't shed a drop of blood at all during the entire session. The last guy who worked on me made me bleed as if I were a damn fountain! :1orglaugh

Thanks! that's why it's important to research artists before going in to a shop blind like so many do. :thumbsup

Fuck that is an excellent looking tattoo!

Any story behind it?

Yes actually. :)

The Chinese dragon is a bringer of good fortune and wealth, as well as one that chases away evil spirits. The placement on my back is significant of chasing away evil which I cannot see. By also bringing in the Celtic Knots is paying homage to my Irish Heritage which also tied in to my family crest that the dragon is holding (the heart with the crown is my family crest). By the dragon holding my family crest, it signifies that my family is blanketed with good fortune and wealth, as well as the avoidance of evil.

To those who don't want to know the whole story, I can just say that my wife is Chinese and I'm Irish, and it's bringing the 2 cultures/families together into 1. :1orglaugh

I love it! I have a similar hybrid of two different things... I got a custom Egyptian ankh made up of Celtic knotwork on my tummy.

Very nice cover... post pics of the leprichaun you had done on your arm.

ShellyCrash 11-26-2007 02:22 PM

It is a really good coverup, most guys would just take the easy way out and use alot of black and dark colors. Kudos to whoever did this.

sicone 11-26-2007 03:35 PM
