Buying a new pc should I get Vista or XP?

I am buying a new high end gaming PC and I have the option of XP or vista.

Which should I go with? Have any of the problems I have heard about with vista in the past been fixed?

ShellyCrash 11-20-2007 01:19 PM

XP! No doubt!

Fat Panda 11-20-2007 01:19 PM

XP... you can run the Vista Transformation Pack if you want it to have that new Aero Glass look.

pornguy 11-20-2007 01:29 PM

I have vista and have not really had any issues so far. I do NOT play games online though so...

notoldschool 11-20-2007 01:30 PM

I've been using Vista on my laptop - pretty rigorously - for the last couple months or so, and honestly, I don't see what are the fuss is about... I think it's a great OS.

That said, I haven't been gaming on it... I reserve that for my Desktop, and it's still running XP.

Star 69 11-20-2007 01:37 PM

Only XP, no fucking vista

Scott McD 11-20-2007 01:38 PM

For gamimg i'd stick with XP for now. Why risk it with Vista...

CurrentlySober 11-20-2007 01:40 PM

Gaming? XP all the way...
Not gaming? Vista wins hands down...

shuki 11-20-2007 01:48 PM

XP!!!!!!!!!!!!

Vista is the worst OS...

Sosa 11-20-2007 01:50 PM

I'm running Vista on my newely built desktop. I have 4 gigs of ram so that helps out a lot. So far no problems.

Bro Media - BANNED FOR LIFE 11-20-2007 01:51 PM

OS X Leopard :D

Ron Bennett 11-20-2007 01:55 PM

XP for sure.

In addition to the other problems with Vista, there is also too much DRM crap.

In about a year, it's likely Vista will be upto SP2, that's the time to maybe consider it ... until then let the lemmings have their fun with Vista.

It's also very telling that new PCs are still being sold with XP even though Vista has been out for so long - that alone should be warning enough to avoid it - again, my view is, stick with XP.

On a related note, you mention gaming - get a console like the XBox360, PS3, etc for that purpose - the game systems out now are practically like PCs with many have built-in browser, internet, etc ... and yet cost much less compared to what a PC with similar graphical capability would cost.

DaddyHalbucks 11-20-2007 03:09 PM

Vista.. don't risk it.

V_RocKs 11-20-2007 03:12 PM

You will have a SHITTY time with VISTA....

There are hundreds of bugs with Vista graphics drivers.

Ryan St. Germain 11-20-2007 03:35 PM

XP, if you even have a choice. Most PC's are packaged with vista now.

tomud 11-20-2007 03:41 PM

stay with XP

Shagbunny 11-20-2007 03:43 PM

Are you sure? Image processing, video encoding, 3d modeling - everything works 10% slower on vista. How can you suggest that piece of shit for work?

CunningStunt 11-20-2007 09:02 PM

XP. Although in a year's time I'd say Vista since it's the only OS that has DirectX10 on it, and more and more games are going to take advantage of that baby, as well as vid cards.

Funny, I can encode video 30+% faster in Vista 64 then I could in XP 64. But that might have something to do with the fact that Vista knows how to control 4gb of ram properly and use both cores of dual core chips.

Good luck with your OS search, you are not going to get a clear answer.

JamesK 11-20-2007 09:27 PM

I've been using Vista for a while now as I got it on my new system. I have to say I'm surprised it works so well. So far I havent had any applications acting strange or anything, as most good ones have already been updated to be compatible with Vista.

I'd go for Vista. You can always install your old XP later if you don't like it. But IMO you have to see for yourself.

BlondeBecks 11-20-2007 09:31 PM

XP....I'm having issues with Vista and firefox being compatable.

xroach 11-20-2007 09:31 PM

I think directx games run a bit better on vista, but the opengl blows .. so it depends on the game
